fishandclips: (Not enough tea in the world for this)

[A very tired twenty-something Indian male appears on camera. His hair is a mess, disheveled as if from sleep and having shoved his hands through it a few too many times, and his clothes appear to have been slept in. Because they have. Mahir sighs and pushes his glasses up his nose before he addresses the camera.]

Hello. Wonderland, is it? As in Alice and, I presume. I’m afraid to say that kind of fantasy literature has never been my particular cup of tea. My name is Mahir Gowda. I am the head of the factual news division of the After the End Times news site, although I doubt that means much here. Perhaps it’s a sign of exhaustion, or stress, or my colleague’s particular brand of insanity has suddenly mutated and become contagious, but if this is a delusion, it’s a very convincing one.

I don’t suppose anyone would be so kind as to point me to a very strong cup of tea? If I’ve truly been kidnapped to an alternate dimension, I assume that calling my wife is out of the question. If she hasn’t divorced me yet, she certainly will be after this.

...I may need something a bit stronger than tea, on consideration.

Sup, fellow captives? Name's Claudia.

[ two purple-gloved hands throw up finger guns in front of the camera. claudia's curled red hair is interrupted only by a single strand of white, and her ratty denim vest is covered in an obnoxious amount of flair. anyone versed in teen can probably tell this cool front is pretty forced. ]

So! I did the reading, aced the pop quiz, made frenemies with the magical internet, et cetera et cetera... [ shrug! if she pretends it's no big deal it won't be, right? this is fine everything's fine. ] Who do I talk to about that member's club jacket fitting? Or like, should I expect a card or a button or something? Maybe a secret handshake? Oh, right one other thing-- anyone got a twenty on Alice? Figure it's only polite to introduce myself to the lady of the house, you know?

[ and until then, she'll keep checking mirrors in hopes that this is some weird artifact thing on steroids. as the day wears on, claudia only gets crankier-- she's starting to feel helpless and alone. she can do alone, she just-- well she thought she didn't have to anymore. ]

[ It's been a weird few months in Wonderland, and this last event was disconcerting in the way that it robbed them all of their real identities for a little while. That world was all they knew, and she hated that loss of control, of having her memories completely twisted without her consent. Patterson wishes they would never have to go through that again, but knows that probably won't be the last of it.

Which just makes her even more determined to do what she wants, something she has some semblance of control over. She wants to know more people here, and she wants them all to make their own fun, even if that's a fleeting thing. Even if their captors never give a damn, Patterson will never give them the satisfaction of being visibly frustrated or upset by the circumstances of this place.

So she starts the video feed with a smile and a little wave. ]

Hey, everyone out there. Some of you know me, but just in case: I'm Patterson. Been here a few months now. It's...an adventure, right?

Anyway, I was thinking about ways to kind of make this place feel even just slightly more normal. Something we can control. Okay, so back home, I collect board games. Like, a lot. [ Enough that she has them organized alphabetically by board game creator. ] We should do a monthly game night. Or weekly? And maybe sometimes we could even come up with a murder mystery game. Like a dinner theater type thing. Would anyone out there even care? I wanna find an empty room, decorate it, and we could do this there. Maybe even watch movies afterwards, eat lots of junk food.

Who's up for it?

[Today, Naoki has opted for text. Not for any particular reason, other than that it reminds him of using his phone back at home, and he kind of likes that nostalgic feeling.]

It seems like we talk a lot about what we had at home that we don't have here. But what's something you have here that you don't have at home?

And I mean something good, not something like "here we have terrible events that try to kill us and we don't have that at home."

For me, the thing we have here that I don't have at home is night.

Alright, so I’ve done all the reading, looked through the brochure. Really handy, by the way, more inter-dimensional kidnappings could use something like that. Nice to show up and have tourist info provided right off the bat.

[He’s doing his best to put a good face on this, he really is. Given his most recent inter-dimensional experiences, this is something of an improvement-- although all things considered, there’s nowhere he’d rather be right now than Earth, preferably with his team, although he supposes that last part is on him. He’d chosen to walk away, at least for a little while. Thanks to that decision, the first night here had been a little more difficult than it might have otherwise, but he's managing.

He’ll give Wonderland some credit. It beats solitary confinement in a parasite’s prison.]

That said, I’m not sure how I feel about a world without Wikipedia. How do you settle all the random debates that come up over breakfast without Wikipedia?

Teddy Altman, by the way. I hear I've been here before, but I don't remember any of it. Apologies in advance for that one.

I take it the vague message we received from a rodent today is the type of unhelpful missive people have warned me lead to events?

[ GREAT. Claire's super stoked. 100% ready to go. ]

I'm ... alive?

Well, no, reasonably I can't possibly be alive, but existing is another story, I suppose.

[ The boy on the network is muttering to himself someone curiously, looking around as the feed moves with him, tapping on doors and looking inside them, wandering into rooms he thinks might contain something special. He's so utterly baffled by his being here that he forgets his manners with some of them, turning the doorknob and just charging in without so much of a hello. Luckily, it seems these rooms are empty. ]

Oh wow... this place is big! And to think I could even-- you know-- uh... To think I could even be again! Let me tell you, it was really vague there for a bit. I'm not sure entirely where I was or how I was, but I know I was...

[ He pauses. ] Really happy. For everyone, they did such a good job. I'm glad knowing the place I treasured so much is safe.

... but this is a new place, isn't it? Can someone tell me what it is?

[It's a particular day on this imaginary Wonderland calendar that's got Jason thinking about some of the family he's left behind. He misses his father like crazy, even though he's supposed to be old enough to handle that. It makes him think about how many little kids are running around Wonderland without families of their own. It's with them in mind that he addresses the network.]

Hey, guys. Where I'm from, today's a pretty big family day, and I was thinking that might get weird for some people. So I wanted to just get the word out.

[He ducks out of frame so the video is presenting the doorframe of the Youth Center as a visual aid.]

We're gonna make sure people are staffing the youth center all day today. So feel free to stop by if you could use a little extra company. We can play some games, or eat way too much ice cream, or sit around and talk. It's your call.

[Sometimes if a father can't be around, a big brother might do.]

[ ooc: open to thread jacking/easily seen unless otherwise indicated. wonderland went haywire and let it happen w/ this post so people can freely read responses and reply. if you have any concerns about the bar or want to help generate a memorial for those gone, head there to oocly talk about it! ]

( the camera pans on damon who is seated up on top of the bar. it's hard to imagine it's been an entire year. how much he's changed, how much his relationship with elena and with people in wonderland has changed since then. he's in a much better place despite how hard it's been lately, despite witnessing elena's- damon smiles for the camera. )

Wonderland, you've officially been graced with my presence for an entire wild and crazy year. When I arrived, I was handing out ponies to everyone who made it worth my while, and now I'm giving you a fully operating bar with regular activities. ( damon pans out to give a view of it all and then he turns the video back toward his face again. he smirks and lifts up a glass in toast like he did for his very first network post. ) You're welcome. The name's TBA.

I realize there's already a bar here, but no one's claimed it since- since Cami also disappeared. ( and she was a friend so that's harder to talk about. ) It's been empty. It felt... strange picking up a bar with so much history from old timers. ( it's not just the fact he bit Simon though there's also that. They made their mark here, and for all damon's faults, it wouldn't feel right.

he steps out of the bar to indicate where it's located. Level 4. damon turns the camera towards the chalk board which lists out the bar's current schedule. )

My girl tells me apparently, for some reason, Trivia Nights are the popular thing in bars so it's on our weekly schedule along with a host of other fun times to be enjoyed by all. Schedule changes monthly so keep checking back.

I'm looking for people who want to work even if money has no meaning so I can't exactly pay you. But consider this... it's something to keep boredom from swallowing you whole and you get to help out your fellow, trapped Wonderland-er. Need bartenders, waiters and waitresses, and chefs if you can cook. And yes, I know we can pull it all out of the closets perfectly, but sometimes it's nice to have someone make something for you even if it's not perfect.

( he lifts up his glass again in toast for the camera. ) Especially if it's not perfect. ( perfect isn't real, and damon always wants what's real. )

[ Well, it's another newbie, but he's sure calm about this whole thing. There's not a whole lot Bucky needs to process here. When you work to combat supernatural wackos, well, you have to expect waking up in wacko places. ]

Huh. I've gotta say, this is probably the gentlest kidnapping I've ever experienced. And there's even a theme, which is a new twist on an old problem. I like captives who think outside the box! I'm not complaining! You know, makes this all a little less tedious, am I right?

[ Through the Looking Glass of all things, too! That is mainly why Bucky isn't taking this too seriously. This seems more like a weird dream or an illusion—Something he's experienced before within the literal head space of a powerful mutant. ]

Guess that makes me the latest and greatest catch, huh? Name's James, by the way! And if any ladies would like to give me a full tour around the prison grounds, I'd be much obliged.

Unseasonable snow aside… [Which Jean was enjoying in his own way. He was sitting in the window of his room, watching it fall while still being warm and cozy. He just had a pressing question for the moment, one that had been building up in his head for awhile.]

I’ve been here for a couple of months, and I’ve talked to enough people to get an idea of how the other half lives. But I’ve still gotta ask—

Is this normal? Not the weird events, or any of the other Wonderland junk, just… This strange, stress-free way of life. Having a roof over your head, food on your plate, and no danger constantly knocking on your front door. The peace and quiet.

It’s more than most people in my world could ever ask for. But the people here seem used to it the moment they set foot in the place. Do we just have terrible luck where I’m from? Is this really how humanity is supposed to live?

[His gaze turns soft and thoughtful.]

I don’t know why it bothers me so damn much.

[ The device is easy enough to figure out, and in fact, she's grateful for some piece of tech that's familiar to her. Trapped in some strange portal dimension, she could have been stuck with only an antiquated rotary phone to communicate, or...telegrams. Though, being transported back in time might have at least been somewhat interesting. Being here in actual Wonderland is just insane. ]

I've gathered that there a lot of other people trapped here, too, so I'm totally including you in all of this when I say - if we had to get stuck somewhere, did it really have to be Wonderland? Couldn't whatever grabbed us from home have dumped us - I don't know - on a beach somewhere?

Is that too much to ask?

[ Overall, she's adjusting to this fairly well for right now. Because of course, of course this is her life now. Finally take down Sandstorm, feeling like she can catch her breath at last, and before she can fully lift her head above water and enjoy life again, she's dumped here. ]

Is everyone...okay? Anyone out there hearing this - did you just get here, too, or have you been here a while?

And I'm really - really hoping some of my team is here. Anyone. Please? I'll just...be here in the lobby. Not moving. Hoping this is some really, really terrible dream. No more combining tequila and Doritos for me, seriously.
