So, um.

[ This time around, John's a bit more prepared to address a network. He's set himself up a little studio area in the corner of his room and his phone's mounted to record him hands-free. ]

Heard from a coupla people that I wasn't real consistent 'bout takin' care of myself— [ the last time he was here. ] —historically speakin'. And I got to thinkin' 'bout that some three or four days ago, when I realized there was a whole day where I just sat 'round my room feelin' like crap, eatin' like I did when I was a teenager, stinkin' like a fool 'cause I needed a dang shower, but I was not feelin' it.

And you know what? Those people were right. Realized that. Once in a while — maybe more'n I'd like to admit — I totally forget I gotta maintain me.

[ He shifts in his chair and digs a piece of paper from his pocket, unfolding it and holding it up for the camera. It's pretty short and sweet: "Drink water. Sleep. Shower. Help someone. Exercise. Eat. Socialize. Smile. Relax. Forgive." ]

Made myself a little list, been tryin' it for a coupla days, and if I do six or seven things off this list every day, then I'm callin' it a success.

[ John sets the list aside. If anyone wants a copy, he's provided an attachment. ]

Now I'm curious, wonderin' what sorta things you guys find yourself forgettin' now that you're here. Your lists look like mine? Or is it totally diff'rent? And what're we all missin' that oughta be on everyone's lists?

( the first time clementine ever had a drink, it was in a shed with nick. they thought they were going to die. it was the grossest thing she'd ever tasted. burned down her throat. moonshine. the second time, it was rum while they all sat in a circle, toasting to the people they'd lost. the third time, it was rum with coke when she checked in on shaun after georgia left.

the fourth time, it's rum again with coke, and she's had a little more than an eleven year old should, but she hit the anonymous function on the post before writing )

how do you deal with all the bullshit life throws at you?

and cannibals.

or whatever else you've been through. too much free time here.

( definitely feeling the rum now. but with the alcohol, it's like she's finally found some feeling she's been missing. her eyes burn. trust has become so hard that she doesn't trust anyone completely, because everyone has their own priorities. it's how the world works. it's what she's learned. iris is gone. everyone died back home. she has a newborn to take care of there. she's still got walker blood in her veins like michonne, like georgia and shaun have zombie blood in them. when she dies, she'll turn into one too unless someone shoots her first or she does it herself. and she doesn't know how to have emotions anymore. things should reach her and they don't. or maybe she just doesn't let them, and she can't tell the goddamn difference. )

( the camera pans on damon who is seated up on top of the bar. it's hard to imagine it's been an entire year. how much he's changed, how much his relationship with elena and with people in wonderland has changed since then. he's in a much better place despite how hard it's been lately, despite witnessing elena's- damon smiles for the camera. )

Wonderland, you've officially been graced with my presence for an entire wild and crazy year. When I arrived, I was handing out ponies to everyone who made it worth my while, and now I'm giving you a fully operating bar with regular activities. ( damon pans out to give a view of it all and then he turns the video back toward his face again. he smirks and lifts up a glass in toast like he did for his very first network post. ) You're welcome. The name's TBA.

I realize there's already a bar here, but no one's claimed it since- since Cami also disappeared. ( and she was a friend so that's harder to talk about. ) It's been empty. It felt... strange picking up a bar with so much history from old timers. ( it's not just the fact he bit Simon though there's also that. They made their mark here, and for all damon's faults, it wouldn't feel right.

he steps out of the bar to indicate where it's located. Level 4. damon turns the camera towards the chalk board which lists out the bar's current schedule. )

My girl tells me apparently, for some reason, Trivia Nights are the popular thing in bars so it's on our weekly schedule along with a host of other fun times to be enjoyed by all. Schedule changes monthly so keep checking back.

I'm looking for people who want to work even if money has no meaning so I can't exactly pay you. But consider this... it's something to keep boredom from swallowing you whole and you get to help out your fellow, trapped Wonderland-er. Need bartenders, waiters and waitresses, and chefs if you can cook. And yes, I know we can pull it all out of the closets perfectly, but sometimes it's nice to have someone make something for you even if it's not perfect.

( he lifts up his glass again in toast for the camera. ) Especially if it's not perfect. ( perfect isn't real, and damon always wants what's real. )

In Wonderland.

The memories come flooding back, just like they’d never left, and he swims to the edge, dragging himself out of the pool again and dripping for a moment by the side of it. Are you happy here?

Don't answer immediately. Take a minute to think about it. It's a complicated question. The concept of happiness is vague and hard to define, especially if we try and generalize it for all people. Certainly, there are moments of joy to be had here. As far as cages go, the gilding on this one can't be denied. Anything you want for free? The ability to come back to life without a hunger for human flesh? Eternal youth? No one is starving to death here. Everyone has a bed and a roof. Compared to a lot of the places people come from, this place is downright utopian even including the events. I know I'm dead at home. That's almost enough to counterbalance the lack of internet. Almost.

There are a lot of reasons to be happy here. All we're giving up is freedom, and how many of us even really have that at home? It's the permanent all-expenses-paid resort vacation no one asked for, and time isn't moving so it's not like we're even missing anything.

You know who was especially happy here? The people who lived in the Wonderland we all dreamed about in December. The ones who didn't remember ever living anywhere else. Talk about a happy ending. No one fighting, no one in pain, everyone living every day in pure, ignorant bliss.

I've called Wonderland a lie before, and I maintain it, but it's the worst sort of lie because it's so very tempting to believe it. Would it really be so bad to give in and just be happy? Why fight it when it isn't our call, when we are powerless to do anything but try and survive whatever Wonderland throws at us?

I say bliss is overrated. What's the point of being happy when you aren't yourself anymore? Is it really a vacation if you have no choice but to take it? There's so much here that we know isn't right. If we give in to being happy, we risk complacency, and if we get complacent, we risk losing the opportunity to rise up when we can.

I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy the good times Wonderland gives us. God knows they're few and far between. Be happy. Just never forget everything Wonderland gives us is the equivalent of giving a favorite pet a nice toy. Wonderland is pampering us because it is using us. The minute we forget that is the minute Wonderland owns us. None of us are free. Never forget that.

So am I happy here?

It doesn't fucking matter.

Wonderland's worst feature are its events.

That's a pretty common thought, right? Only this place doesn't usually come up with events on its own. They're all just baggage it dredges up from our own worlds. When you look at it that way you could probably even make a case for Wonderland itself being pretty decent.

So here's a question: You've got the choice, go back to where you left off, or stay in Wonderland for good. Which one do you pick, and why?

My name is Georgette Marie Meissonier. Buffy to my friends. I'm a licensed fiction blogger with After the End Times. I'm using text format because, frankly, the video quality on the tech here is personally offensive to me and whoever designed all of this needs to sit in a corner and think about what they've done.

But, okay, enough of the tech tangent. For now.

[ She's not done with this subject, Wonderland. Not by a long shot. But she has bigger issues than the abysmal level of tech you're all working with. You'll be hearing more about this in the future. ]

I'm a little uncomfortable with this because facts aren't my wheelhouse. I make things up. On April 17th, 2040 I legally died because of well.. the usual reasons. Viral amplification. I shouldn't be talking. I shouldn't be doing anything.

I've looked at this network and in between being appalled at your complete lack of security I've read up on things. Everything about this reads like bad fiction.

[Georgia is using video again, staring unsmiling at the camera from behind her usual dark sunglasses. When the feed starts, she gives a nod of greeting.]

Hello, Wonderland. A few orders of business.

After careful consideration, Shaun and I have decided that the network is not the most efficient or useful tool for distributing our articles. Instead, we'll be printing out a weekly zine.

[There's only the slightest grimace as she says the word print. Most people here don't share her disdain for print. It's fine.]

We're calling it The Shattered Mirror and if anyone is interested in contributing, contact me or Shaun, or come to our office in room 60 on the ninth floor. News is our main interest, but we'll accept fiction, poetry, art, or anything else that can be printed.

[She leans forward, expression, if possible, growing even more sober.]

Secondly, I'd like to formally apologize to anyone my brother or I hurt or scared during the last event.

[She doesn't flinch as she says it. Mostly because she has a lot of practice and sunglasses to keep anything from showing on her face. The zombie that rose when she died was not her, and she wasn't responsible for its actions. Knowing that doesn't make her feel any less guilty.]

As some of you are aware, we carry a virus that causes us to reanimate upon death. Normally whichever one of us survived would make sure to put the other one down before anyone could get hurt, but in this case circumstances didn't allow for it. I wish I could tell you it won't happen again, but I detest lying, and I have no way to be sure. We will try and contain the problem, but if we fail, my only advice would be to run unless you have exceptionally good aim.

Clementine will be putting out a document on behalf of our publication with more advice for handling zombies soon.

[She gives a decisive nod and reaches to turn off the camera.]

Thank you, and have a good day.

Don't kill the zombies in the water.

It's- It's Georgia and Shaun, and if you kill those zombies, their juices get in the water and anyone that touches that water will be infected too. We'll all be screwed, okay?

Just don't- We gotta find another way, and killing them up close isn't really smart either, but if you shoot them and they splatter- [Fuck. It's hard talking about them like this. People aren't gonna get it or they'll think she's just callous and hard, and she is because she has to be. [ Jane doesn't want to potentially upset anyone, not when she knows there are so many people in Wonderland who are eager to go home, or don't want to be stuck here while slowly losing their memories. She's one of them. That's why she's anonymous. But she still wonders something, and it's been coming up a lot more. The only way to know if other people wonder the same things is to ask, right? ]

I've been wondering: people get upset about being here for a long time and losing all of their memories of home, eventually. Does anyone know exactly how long that takes?

Also, is there a specific reason why it matters?

(Other than the big thing, losing yourself, which I get is a huge deal.) But, in theory, even if you forget everything while you're here, as soon as you're home, you remember again. Who you are, where you're from. It all comes back and then it's Wonderland and all the people here you've connected with that you forget.

Right?

I guess I was just wondering if people are as passionate about the ones who would be stuck here in their wake, as they are about the people they miss at home that don't even know they're gone. I can tell you I don't know where I fall half the time.

[ No one's particularly missing her at home, so. ]

a c t i o n

[ It never feels like there's a specific place Jane wants to go in Wonderland when she's restless. Most of the time she finds herself wandering if she has no tattoo appointments, or tucked away somewhere sketching. For today, there's a little bit of browsing in the library (she picks up classic novels this time around plus two cookbooks) before she tucks herself in the main entrance of the mansion with her sketchbook after finding a comfortable, oversized chair. She'd thought to sketch the grand doors and the view from the windows, but instead, her mind has something else in store. The memory she has is fuzzy, but she's sure the person she's sketching is her brother. He has a scar, the same as the boy she remembered months and months ago, and the same as the man in the photo she received in her stocking. It gives her hope that she has a family out there somewhere, even if she doesn't know his name.

When she's done, she goes to the dining room and pulls out one of the cookbooks, flipping to random pages with food that seems worth trying. As she notes what looks good, the dishes appear in front of her until she has a full meal with ample portion sizes.
