[Those who've been here for a while might remember the last time Shepard addressed Wonderland in the Citadel, all smiles and lackadaisical jokes. However, today, she's addressing the Mansion at large like a commander- her shoulders are flat, back straight, expression serious.]

Alright. So if I'm correct from the network, a lot of us received items with the same cryptic note and a lot of weird stuff. Some of 'em don't seem to do anything. Some of them, apparently, are eyeballs.

[She brings her right hand into view, holding a broken half of a compact mirror; the mirror inside is shattered beyond repair.]

I got this- but it wasn't broken when I got it. It went to the Queen of Hearts. And because I don't believe in bullshitting anyone here, we should talk about the fact that what's going on right now is purposeful, and we need to be a hell of a lot more careful.

[Several people have been kind enough to help teach Ben how to use these devices. He still finds the general experience of it to be unnerving, trifling though it feels as he turns it over in his hands. Instantaneous, mass communication by way of a small box was a concept that was originally met with much incredulity. And yet, after having spent some time in this fantastical place, he could no longer deny what his own senses were telling him. Usage of this device was not only possible but frequently done and considered a staple of survival here.

Ben glances at his surroundings--a room he'd chosen for himself, simple enough in its furnishings--and then back at the small box in his hands. He's already tested its functions and had a look at the messages on it, partly out of pure fascination but also to learn the social expectations required during its usage.

He breathes, and feels he may as well make the proverbial plunge, and notes how ridiculous it is to feel nervous over something so trivial after he's done things like taken lives and marched across battlefields.

Ben presses a few buttons and the video broadcast begins. He tries to hold the thing steady, unnerved at the thought of some "unseen" force simultaneously recording both his voice and his image.]

Hello, I am ... Benjamin Tallmadge. [He realizes belatedly that he isn't wearing a jacket, and perhaps he should have introduced himself with his rank. Oh no...]

I arrived in June and would like to thank those who offered me their assistance.

Additionally, I would like to inquire further into the resources we have here; specifically firearms from the 20th century on Earth. For clarity's sake, I've come from the year 1777 and I am a Major in the Continental Army of the United States of America. In the interest of self-defense and the defense of others, I would like to learn how to use those superior munitions properly.

One may contact me by way of these devices or in person at the library.

Good day to you.

[ It's been a long, long while since Steve transmitted a message through the network, and that's been no accident. His last announcement was when he came back from his last trip home, over a year ago. It hadn't felt right to take the lead in the same way after that, and others had jumped in to take his place as needed. Hadn't they? He'd thought as much, but others have told him that he's still needed as a leader. Maybe not as Cap, but as Steve.

It's a work in progress.

But here he is all the same, sending out his message toward the end of the second day. He's indoors; the room he's in not well-lit but his face is still visible. It's quiet out, the calm before the storm. ]

Michonne and I took a trip past the gates today, and... there's something coming. Or, well, a lot of somethings. A whole horde of zombies headed right for us. She's already given you guys the rundown, but I wanted to get the word out. We're gonna have to fight, or barricade ourselves away from danger. [ His expression hardens then, something steely and determined. ] Whatever you can do to keep yourself and your loved ones safe, do it.

[ A pause as he gathers his thoughts, and then he's back to it. ] I know death isn't permanent here, but this isn't a way that anyone wants to go. [ Is he speaking from experience?? Who knows, he doesn't elaborate. ] And I'll do whatever I can to help. In case you didn't know, I've got super strength, super speed, and I can take a hit. I'm not even sure if this infection will affect me because of the way my metabolism is. So if you need help getting out a scrape, let me know, all right? Or even if you just need help barricading a house. [ He's perfect for all that heavy lifting. ] I'm here to do whatever I can.

[ It's never enough, but he's still going to try. If he's learned anything this past year, it's that. ]

Oh, it's Steve, by the way. Steve Rogers. Stay safe, everyone.

Joel had been truly shaken when he'd found Ellie alone in the woods, hiding away from the world and with a broken arm she'd been too scared to even go and get treated properly. When she'd finally told him an abbreviated version of what had happened, he'd gone from feeling shaken to feeling sick.

He'd done his own research first, to no avail. At a loss and unable to make further progress on his own, he's finally caved to his last resort - asking the other residents for help. ]

A little over a year ago I provided the mansion with an instructional...brochure of sorts, to better orient newcomers and in particular those who are not from what can only be considered the "modern" era.

[One great unfairness about Wonderland is its tendency to forget that a number of the people living in it are not from time periods that utilise microwaves, for example, or even know what they are. The learning curve is steep for the temporally disadvantaged.]

Seeing as these sorts of publications are only successful when circulated and given the appropriate communal response, I think it only fair to extend the offer of amending any aspects to account for the amenities people may add to our shared residence in the future.

I'm going to leave a number of these in the foyer and on reading tables in the library, but would appreciate it if others would assist in forwarding the file to new residents should in-person explanations become untenable.

[All this just in time for the recent appearance of the dormouse on the network, heralding another event - it makes this particular announcement the more appropriate, since she hasn't been as public a figure lately for personal reasons. Evelyn collects herself for a moment before continuing, because as a long-time resident it is incumbent upon her to broach the issue if only to gather perspectives.]

...additionally, I would like to hear opinions on the notion of holding a public forum about mitigating damages - not necessarily the public safety issue as discussed in previous network announcements, but approaching the aftermath of disasters, both wrought by Wonderland and its residents.

[Only in part does this come from a place of emotion, but the greater percentage stems from practicality. If people are to peaceably live in the same spaces then it must be a team effort, from all sides.

Herself included.
]

This is not to rally a police force. This is not to encourage mob-like behaviour. This is to calmly, openly discuss the subject of accountability and greater communication.

Three years. Three years is a really long time to be stuck in one place isn't it? I've been here for three years already.

I guess that makes me one of the veterans here huh?

I mean I know there are people here who've been longer, but. Well. Not many of us make it this far.

[ he's not really sure where he's going with this. He does have a point, he just isn't sure how he wants to ask what he wants to ask. He's rolling a ring around between his fingers as he talks, the camera may dip to catch him fidgeting with it. Those questions he knows no one but his mirror can answer and well, that's not happening. So he'll stick with things that other people can answer. ]

Has anyone else never gone home? I mean. Like when some people disappear for a week and come back after time has passed gone home, not for good.

It's been three years and I've never gotten to leave and come back. So anyone else whose been here close to this long or longer, have any of you never gone home?

[ He's almost afraid to think of what it means. He knows Jo had never left and that was because she had nothing to go back to. And well, everyone from home whose been here is either before him or Loki who had no idea what he was up to. Did it also mean he had no future to go back to?]

If anyone wants to come help me celebrate three years I'll be at the bar. [ By which he means the old bar, because he's got issues. ]

Any appointments that fell through because I was sent home for a while can be considered back on the books and priority. Just let me know when you want to come by and I'll fit you in ahead of walk-ins. Oh, and I can confirm now that any tattoos I do here will completely disappear and not come back when you return. Which is, I guess, great for return business. All of the tattoos I gave Kurt are gone.

There will be snacks. If you want anything more significant than what the tea rooms provide, then bring your own. [ I.e., if Mick wants alcohol, he needs to bring his own. ]

We'll be talking about what happened, why it might have happened, what went wrong, and how we can prevent similar mistakes in future events.

It's my brother's birthday: Sam Winchester. Maybe you've heard of him.

He likes clowns, greasy food, and lingerie wrestling.

Anyone else looking to pitch in, you can leave open bottles of alcohol, barrettes, and scrunchies outside his room door for the next 24 hours. Whoever can get the most parked by the door jamb without him catching them, gets a favor, winner's choice. Proof or it didn't happen.

[There is such a thing in the sciences, in mathematics, called the relation between constants and variables.

Variables are unknown elements, that which has not yet come to pass, changing incessantly to best suit an equation. Constants are fixed, their values do not shift for better or worse. Every experiment must have a constant with which to compare for consistency, the baseline, the mainstay.

For some time she has felt less like a person and more like a fixture, another unaltered set dressing against an unaltered backdrop. A theatre full of traveling shows that ebb with the whims of a fickle audience, some more popular than others, some waning into obscurity after brief performances. They are all players, but some less so as time wears on and eventually the stage across which you might have danced is a part of you, and you a part of it.
]

I understand that many of you are no strangers to loss.

[She certainly is not, and isn't so naive to think that others have not suffered either. It was not selfish disappointment that crushed into her chest when she saw his empty room this morning after stopping by to discuss the science of space travel - for all his time away, he was still a physicist - but a sickening dread, knowing the circumstances to which he was returning.

The same as hers: death.
]

And I am not in the habit of dressing up bad news. But given the length of this particular resident's stay in Wonderland, I feel it is important for people to know that Philip LaFresque is no longer with us.

[Miraculously her voice does not quake and she thinks perhaps there might have been an inevitability at play, a knowledge they both shared that one of them would leave before the other. One of them would disappear first.]

He was the first person that I met here, almost six years ago. I dare say that he has changed a great deal, and that many of you would not recognise the man he was once, but he was my oldest and dearest friend. [Here she feels the crack in the dam, the anxiety that comes with having to use the past tense.] And I'm sorry that sounds so- so trite, and insignificant, that there is not a more appropriate word to describe it than "friend."

[There comes a time in a woman’s life when she hopes to not come across bodies as often as she has in the past. A sentiment such as this may constitute as strange and unusual when the woman in question is an archaeologist who encounters bodies with frequency in her work, but those bodies tend to be 1.) dead, 2.) thousands of years old, and 3.) unmistakably mummified. Evelyn’s experiences with finding bodies in Wonderland is that they are only sometimes dead, very young by comparison, and do not resemble the human equivalent of a prune.

Still - it would be kind of this place to afflict her with recent corpses and the indisposed less often, because psychology textbooks from the future claim that stress is a dangerous incapacitator. If Wonderland could manage this sooner rather than later, it would be ideal.
]

Oh, God.

[An early afternoon walk through the orchards, branches covered in a dusting of snow, the same crunching underfoot and she sees a child lying supine next to the base of a tree. She’s soaked to the skin.

Ellie.

Panic claws at her insides when she falls back on what little medical expertise a doctor once gave her and she feels for a pulse, sensing nothing and fumbling for her communicator to tap out a network-wide missive. NOTICE:

I would like to submit a formal, if belated, apology to all those who were inconvenienced by our last event1. It was from my world and no doubt had a discombobulating effect. If there are lingering queries, please direct them to me in the archival room located in the west wing of the library, first floor.

In news that is more favourable but tangentially-related: I am interested in the temporal demographics of those in residence here, as it has been some time since I last conducted a survey of this nature. I am myself from the year 1935, but as I understand it this fits into a very specific timeline from a very specific world, and there are other worlds with differing dating systems and dimension-specific technological innovations. This is not a formal study, but a personal inquiry to satisfy curiosity.

As always, I can be found in the stacks unless the day is particularly fine.

[ Jane doesn't want to potentially upset anyone, not when she knows there are so many people in Wonderland who are eager to go home, or don't want to be stuck here while slowly losing their memories. She's one of them. That's why she's anonymous. But she still wonders something, and it's been coming up a lot more. The only way to know if other people wonder the same things is to ask, right? ]

I've been wondering: people get upset about being here for a long time and losing all of their memories of home, eventually. Does anyone know exactly how long that takes?

Also, is there a specific reason why it matters?

(Other than the big thing, losing yourself, which I get is a huge deal.) But, in theory, even if you forget everything while you're here, as soon as you're home, you remember again. Who you are, where you're from. It all comes back and then it's Wonderland and all the people here you've connected with that you forget.

Right?

I guess I was just wondering if people are as passionate about the ones who would be stuck here in their wake, as they are about the people they miss at home that don't even know they're gone. I can tell you I don't know where I fall half the time.

[ No one's particularly missing her at home, so. ]

[ It never feels like there's a specific place Jane wants to go in Wonderland when she's restless. Most of the time she finds herself wandering if she has no tattoo appointments, or tucked away somewhere sketching. For today, there's a little bit of browsing in the library (she picks up classic novels this time around plus two cookbooks) before she tucks herself in the main entrance of the mansion with her sketchbook after finding a comfortable, oversized chair. She'd thought to sketch the grand doors and the view from the windows, but instead, her mind has something else in store. The memory she has is fuzzy, but she's sure the person she's sketching is her brother. He has a scar, the same as the boy she remembered months and months ago, and the same as the man in the photo she received in her stocking. It gives her hope that she has a family out there somewhere, even if she doesn't know his name.

When she's done, she goes to the dining room and pulls out one of the cookbooks, flipping to random pages with food that seems worth trying. As she notes what looks good, the dishes appear in front of her until she has a full meal with ample portion sizes. Which prompts a (non-anon this time) text once again, hours apart from her original message with an image attached: ]

[No offense to the people who work on that. But really, it doesn't have the important shit. As he goes, he holds his fingers off, ticking each point one by one. Take notes. ]

First, it won't help your sorry ass when this place decides to rewrite your mind, but always keep a stockpile of food. Cans, non-perishables, bottled water, dry beans, that kind of crap. Keep a knife and matches with it too. Basic survivalist shit. You never know when the closets are gonna rebel.

Second, learn how to use a gun. I can show you how, or Jo over in the bar, or whoever, but you need to know. Keep that handy, too.

Make some goddamn friends. I don't give half a crap if you're some lone wolf badges back home, you're not gonna survive without someone watching your back.

Stay away from those vendors, the ones out there who don't deal on money? Nothing they could give you is worth it. Fuck 'em.

[John makes a face- even thinking about those fuckers gives him the creeps.]

And finally, don't fuck with the library. Don't even entertain the idea of getting fire near it. Don't kill anyone in the goddamn library. And Jesus Christ, don't piss off the librarian. I'm not joking.

I don’t remember asking for a vacation. Call me cynical, but really just call me Arcade, there has to be a catch. Cui bono?

Wouldn’t it be nice if this was all just a happy circumstance that we’ve turned up in a place that didn’t want something from us? Rad-free food, no deathclaws chasing you down, no drugged up fiends. This is Heaven. Or close to it.

[The video finally focuses, and the man behind the rambling comes into view. He looks like he hasn't slept in a few days. Partially because he found a library with every book his heart desired.

The device he’d received looked much like a pip-boy, though he wasn’t familiar with one personally. The courier had one and would let Arcade watch old holotapes on it from time to time. Someone told me there might be some librarian types around Wonderland. Or at least some people who know the library really well. There's a book from my world that I want to find, and I haven't had any luck so far.

[ Audio clicks on to the shuffle of papers and a considering hum before Rafe speaks. His voice is mild. Sincere. Level in the way one can only sound when one is way too used to having things work out the way he wants them to, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs. ]

Well. Isn't this interesting.

[ When some people say interesting, you can tell they mean something entirely different. A professor reading over a test that clearly hadn't been studied for as he reaches for a red pen; a girl at a bar at the hearing how you just never have enough time to work on your novel; a cop flipping over your registration to find it's expired. It's one of those catch-all words but when Rafe says it? Nah. He just means interesting. ]

I always appreciate being prepared, and gotta say. This pamphlet? Good stuff, clean design, very to the point. Credit where it's due.

[ Arriving like a babe in the woods isn't really Rafe's scene. After all, a wide variety of factors have suddenly been yanked out of his control; the few he has remaining to him become all the more important to take advantage of. So although he's still learning the lay of the land, he's doing so after availing himself of a room, a shower, a fresh shirt, and this handy dandy pamphlet. ]

Although... You know, not to brag or anything but I'm a guy with a couple of talents. Architecture, for one. Anybody else checking this place out? I mean, here I am walking around those gardens and one minute I'm thinking 18th-century French, fantastically preserved, then there's some Gothic elements peeking round a corner— Jesus! Lloyd Wright, right there. [ You'd think the guy was watching a match at Wimbledon, and politely un-invested in who the winner turns out to be. ] Phenomenal fenestration, when it decides to stick to something longer than a minute. I suppose I'll have to get up higher for some bearings on this whole thing. Might even be a little fun with the right equipment.

[ Even though he's been in Wonderland for nearly two months at this point, this is the first time Will has made a post on the network, and only about the fourth time he's used his device at all. He's not a terrifically outgoing person, and it's easy for him to assume that people are probably better off without his input in most cases.

However, the network is clearly a good way to get answers and information, and ever since his conversation with Bedelia... He's been thinking a lot about "home". Been wondering if there are any people here in similar circumstances. It's been on his mind enough that eventually, he settles on simply straight-up asking people, if only to shut the train of thought down and put an end to the curiosity. And, perhaps, put himself a bit at ease. If that's even a possibility.

The question isn't posed through video, or even audio. This is more easily handled through text. And, it...makes the whole thing slightly less awkward, which doesn't hurt. ]

Is anyone out there uncertain about whether or not you'd like to go home?

Do you feel as though Wonderland may be the lesser of two evils? That you may be better off here than where you've come from?

[ Come and discuss any doubts you have about wanting to return to your world, Wonderland. Maybe you'll make him feel better about the disaster he'll be walking back into if and when he ever goes home. ]

[Lucifer is sitting at the bench of a shiny black piano, his fingers gently pressing the keys in a smooth melody with talented fingers as he starts to speak. It's unclear how he's being filmed without actually holding the device himself, but I'm sure it's probably just someone holding it for him.

Or not.]

Hello again, denizens of Wonderland. I made a promise to you all, and as you can see, I'm following through on it.

[Around him is a very lavish, large, and chic room, though it's clear that the piano he's at is in the middle of the room and slightly lower than most of the couches and tables, with the bar at the far end. There's also a stage microphone set up beside him, though he's not using it at the moment.]

Say hello to Deux Lux. Anyone with the ability to have fun is welcome and expected. Sixth floor, room sixty-six. It's a bit smaller than the original, I'm afraid, but it will do for now.

[He grins.]

Feel free to help yourself behind the bar when you arrive. If I think you have some skill when it comes to pouring cocktails, perhaps I'll offer you a job. Until those positions are filled, however, I'm afraid I can't do everything all by myself. I'm the Devil, not a miracle worker.

[ooc: Feel free to answer Lucifer over the network or come hang out at the club. THIS CAN BE A PARTY POST. Feel free to tag around as much as you want! I'll have my own starter for Lucifer inside and will tag around as well. Have fun <3]

Ah, here? Oh, thank you, Evelyn.

[The video opens on what appears to be, for all intents and purposes, a completely ordinary middle-aged man with an impressively crooked nose and dark eyes that shine when the light catches them. His greying hair sweeps back at the temples, faintly balding on the top but still thick at the sides, and the smile he offers to someone off-screen as he realises the device is now working is small and neatly hides his teeth.]

I should be fine. I will let you know if I begin to struggle again.

[Then, to the camera itself.]

I assume that I'm now addressing the current residents of Wonderland. My name is Regis, and I have recently found myself amongst you. If anyone is familiar with the name Emhyr var Emreis, as anyone from the same time and place as myself ought to be, or if anyone is familiar with me.. I would appreciate immediate contact.

[The man pauses, just for a moment.] Though I have found a very helpful individual here, it never pays to limit one's sources of information. I would benefit by learning as much about this world as I can, and so I ask anyone listening to inform me of anything that they believe it important for a newcomer to know. Thank you.

[Another pause, and the video tilts towards a nearby stack of books as Regis can be distantly heard asking Evelyn how he might turn the thing off. A moment later, he manages to do just that.]

[ It's like 9pm on a Friday and to say Chuck is 'drunk' is a vast understatement.

But Aussie's are built tough, so when he comes on the network, he's not even slurring. ]

Right, 's been a while, kids. We're gonna play a game. Ever hear of word association? I say a word, you say the first thing that comes to mind in association with that word.

I'll start.

Blood.

(( ooc; chuck's drunk and bored. come at him with words, feel free to threadjack if other players are okay with it, or just bounce back and forth with Chuck. ))

So, hey, Jack here.

[The video shows the man with the mismatched eyes framed neatly in a large room. It looks more like an office than a bedroom, but the wall behind him seems to be almost entirely taken up by a large window that overlooks Wonderland. He's sitting in an overly large yellow chair, looking into the camera of his device with his fingers laced together and propped under his chin.]

In light of recent weirdness, I was curious about something: So do any of you scrubs actually keep in touch regularly with your doppelgänger? Like, the usual morning 'Sup' scrolled on the mirror and the evening, 'How was your wonder-tastic day?' type dealio? 'Cause honestly? Mine's loonier than a Scav on Mercenary day after he's had a few, [He mimes knocking back a few drinks with his hand.] and that's saying something in comparison to the people I've met on Elpis.

I mean, the guy can just watch me do whatever I do through any mirrored surface and that's just normal? Any of you feel a little self conscious when you're jacking off or something? Maybe there's a deranged dead ringer on the other side watching you get your rocks off. It's weird, right? Point is, wow, am I the only one interested in this?

[The feed starts, and it is clear the woman in front of the camera has set the device a few feet away, so you can see that she's seated, one leg crossed over the other, hands in her lap. For a moment she stares at the device, face blank. This is a risk, she knows. Maybe a mistake. But in the few days she has spent wandering the halls of Wonderland she has encountered no one she knows. And anyway, it's late for fear now. So she smiles, and her whole demeanor brightens with it. She tilts her head toward the camera in a polite nod.]

Hello to... whomever may be watching this. [Bedelia speaks slowly, every word careful, exact. Her voice hardly ever reaches above a low and breathy rumble, but she speaks with confidence.]

My name is Dr. Bedelia du Maurier. I am a recent addition to this place, and I'm not familiar with most of you, but in light of recent events I thought it would be best to make myself known, and to offer my services. I am a licensed psychiatrist, and am beginning a small practice out of my quarters in room Thirty-five on the Eighth floor. I am available by appointment, or, if you would like to speak more informally, you can find me around the mansion.

[She pauses for a moment, and nearly stands up before she thinks of something more that should be said.]

I have been made aware that there is currently a therapist already practicing here. It is not my intention to be in competition with her. However, I imagine she has limited time, and everyone has different needs. [She takes a deep breath, never breaking eye contact with the device. It is best to be up front.] I am particularly accustomed to...disturbing cases. Trauma is something I am wholly familiar with. If that is what you need, I am here.

[She pauses again. That nervousness has not left her, her hands tremble in her lap, but she keeps her toothless smile on. She is, after all, a professional.]

That is all for now, I suppose. Thank you.

[Bedelia leaves the frame and the click of her high heels grows closer and closer before she turns off the feed.]

[Dipper always looks a little on the paranoid and overtired side, but he looks especially bad today. Amazing how much harder it is to sleep when the very reason you have trouble sleeping in the first place is actually here and likely to torment your nightmares if you dare close your eyes. Not that staying awake forever is an option. Dipper just wishes it was. He starts the feed, then sits, back, looking grim.]

Hey. Dipper and Ford Pines here. You might have noticed the super weird triangle thing that came up recently? Well, that's not a what. That's a who. [A beat.] And… also a what, actually.

[Ford doesn’t look much better either. His brow is furrowed and his expression, grave.] That super weird triangle thing is a dream demon known as ‘Bill Cipher’. He is incredibly powerful and incredibly dangerous. Now I’m sure some of you will take this as a challenge-- How bad can he be? Right? [He shrugs airily, but abruptly points at the camera.]

Wrong. Bill is most powerful in the mindscape; a mental realm between dimensions. He can read your mind and inhabit your dreams and he is chaos incarnate. He may be charming, but above all else he is a liar and a monster.

[Dipper raises a finger.] Also? Don't make a deal with him. He will lie to you and cheat you out of your end and then he'll possess you and do terrible things to and with your body. [Terrible, terrible things. Dipper rubs his arm.]

But good news? He can't possess you if you don't deal with him, and without a corporeal form he's pretty limited in what damage he can do. Still got the omniscience and nightmares to contend with, but who hasn't had to deal with a few nightmares? [It's fine. He's fine.]

[Ford puts a comforting hand on Dipper’s shoulder.] If you happened to follow his instructions and you drew a triangle with an eye, I suggest you destroy that paper immediately--preferably by burning it. If you can help it, do NOT engage! I cannot stress that enough. Do not be a fool just because you think you can handle yourself. It’s not worth the risk.

[Dipper nods firmly.] If he contacts you? Let us know. If he… takes an interest in you or something, definitely let us know. We're experts on dealing with him. We can help. We can also answer any questions you might have. To the extent that there are answers, anyway. There are still definitely more questions.

[He gives a serious nod, glances up at Ford, then looks into the camera.]

That's it for now, Wonderland. Stay safe, and come to us with any questions.
