Do you get a special cake or a wish when you've been here a year?

[Here is an Asriel, looking very done with everything. He's only found out a few minutes ago that today was the day of his arrival. And while this should be a day of reflecting on what he's learned and experienced, or be grateful that he's had his body back for this long, he's really just bitter that most of his family has left. Or that he was just recently imprisoned and brainwashed. Or that he's got a war to look forward to soon.]

I want a chocolate cake.

It ain't a birthday. Why celebrate the anniversary of what is essentially the day of your abduction?

Because this place could do at least one nice thing for me, instead of sending my family away and brainwashing us and sending us to prison.

We all wish that, but unfortunately the only ones Wonderland is interested in pleasin' and doin' "nice things" for are itself. Even the niceties this place has to offer are often mere guises shrouding somethin' far more sinister. Would you really trust bein' given a chocolate cake on the anniversary of your kidnapping?

... No, I guess not. It’d probably make me grow an extra head or something.

But it’s still not fair. All this place did was send most of my family back home and leave me here.

It's not, but it's the only reality available to us. We can make the best of it as much as possible, but at the end of the day, we're all still bein' held in this world against our will. And I won't pretend to know anythin' about the one you come from yourself, so I won't say that not bein' here is for the best. Only that I am sorry that you've found yourself without them.

I am sure the closet or the kitchens would provide you with a cake.

I don't want a closet cake, I don't even really want a cake. I just want my sibling back.

[There's really not enough Wonderland could do for him to make up for taking his mom, sibling, and best friend. But... he's right. There's nothing he can do. Unless Wonderland sends him back, or brings his family back to him.]

Asking for a cake doesn't fix anything, does it? This place is gonna do what it wants, no matter what. What's even the point?

[ doc's tone softens. ] I know, little one, but there ain't much any of us can do about that.

[ and for all he knows, home may be a better place for them to be, but he's not foolish enough to give that voice. he knows well and good that for some, wonderland is a far better environment to be in than the variety of hazardous worlds some of the mansion's residents call home. ]

The point is not to let them win. Not to let 'em break you, and if a slice of chocolate cake is gonna help you feel a bit better about bein' here, then you should treat yourself to one.

I totally have no idea how to bake, but seems only right it's a real cake and not a closet cake.

I'm willing to try if you trust me not to poison you. Maybe not poison you.

[Because people dealing with things here should have things that help. Like cake.]

I mean, it should be Wonderland giving me a cake since they’re so mean all the time, but... you’d make me a cake?

[He feels a little bad, but... now that the option for cake is there he doesn’t really want to say no.]

Darling, I wish that happened when you hit one year. I've now hit two and Wonderland has not done ONE thing to congratulate me on it! Not one gift or balloon!

We should protest. And - and we should add that to that suing thing you want to do! Make them give us cake and balloons.

[Is he being sarcastic? Asriel tilts his head in response. Even as Flowey, it was hard to know whether Papyrus was joking or being sincere, because he sounds sincere about nearly everything.]
