Alright you guys! I'm posting a little early to let you know that we have our winners from the sign ups! They were all randomly selected with a super fun name drawing program called The Hat (because random.org is for people who don't love early 2000s open source sorting programs).

As you know, during the winter and spring events, red hearts inexplicably appeared with both of the Queens denying knowledge of their origin. In response, the Queen of Hearts challenged the Red Queen to a battle. And by battle, she clearly means a chess match.

That’s right! What our lucky winners get to do is play a live-action game of chess! Each character has been assigned a chess piece based on the order in which the randomizer listed them. The teams are as follows:

As a result of the Queen of Hearts's challenge, the two teams above will be duking it out on the checkerchessboard hills under the direction of the two Queens. The Queen of Hearts, of course, will be directing her Mirrors on where to move and when, while the Red Queen will be directing the movements of the Real Things. All other characters (Mirrors included) will be “invited” to watch from some new, conveniently placed bleachers around the field of play. This means all Real Things and all Mirrors will be on the same side of the glass for the duration of the match. (However, the Mirrorside will not be open for exploration, so everyone is stuck on the Real side.)

The moves in the chess game have been mapped out, so players whose characters are on the board will know exactly who will be fighting who and at what point in the game. Pieces can be captured by killing or incapacitating the opponent, and players may have to get creative to make all of the moves work. Once a character is disabled, however that might happen, they disappear from the field.

Unbeknownst to the spectators, the captured pieces will be transported to an undisclosed location, where they will be able to interact with each other and view the rest of the match. Any physical injuries, up to and including death, will disappear once the character appears in the holding area. For those characters on the field of play, deaths do not count as Mansion deaths (though this is OOC knowledge only). However, any deaths among spectators due to conflict in the stands will be counted as Mansion deaths.

We've also made screen caps of all 117 moves of this chess game, using the default icons of each from each account (in most cases; when we didn’t have information on a Mirror account, we used the default from the Real’s account). The log for the event will go up on Friday of this week. The game actually takes place on Monday, June 11, but because we know it will take some time to thread all of this, the log for the chess game (complete with thread headers to keep everything organized) will be posted on Friday, June 8 (and of course, you can back tag the log like there's no tomorrow). This means that the event does not actually start until Monday, and everyone can feel free to post during the weekend.

(As a note for those who track the comms, because of the way the event post is being set up, there may not be a notification sent out when the log goes up. There will be an announcement on Plurk, but for those who don't use it, just check back on Friday for the log.)

MIRROR STAN - BLACK ROOK

MIRROR STAN is one of the Rooks on the Queen of Hearts' side, and he is eager to prove himself since she had to Unmake him a little while ago (RIP Grunkle Lee). He'll gladly antagonize any Reals he comes across along the way (particularly Shepard, who he slides halfway across the board specifically to harass [Move 20]), but he can't hurt anyone unless he's order to capture someone.

Which...he won't. Instead he's going to get his ass handed to him by a teenager! [Move 27] After that, he's going to be particularly mopey in the holding area for getting taken out so soon in the game, and a little concerned that Her Majesty's choice in moves will be deemed his fault (or worse, were on purpose because she felt he in particular was dispensable and not worth keeping).

I too would like to plan this out! Hilariously, Mirror Bakura is not anywhere near as physical as Jean, not in the least, so this definitely makes sense in the grand scheme! But a token fight with a few strikes and some heckling on his part is definitely something that would be in the cards and I'd love to do it!

MINATO - White Bishop

Minato figured that this war was going to be chess since, well, it's Wonderland, and it's happened before. He's going to fight since he said he would and who knows what'll happen if the Mirrors win. He is going to feel so bad that he had to hurt two people though in the process. Then it's all good and he can be offed by Rocket, who is apparently taking out like half the game, which is kind of awesome in itself. XD

Adi, Bex, and Chris, I'm happy to plot out how things will go!

In the holding location, he'll be watching the game closely, but he'll also be checking on anyone, Reals and Mirrors included, to see if they're okay.

Mirror Bakura (with a side of Real)

So Mirror Bakura is gonna get fucked up, to the surprise of literally no one since he looks about as threatening as a leaf. That being said, he's definitely going to talk smack in the secret room and try to antagonize any and all Reals, and perhaps some Mirrors as well. He's not a nice guy.

I'm absolutely up for anyone smacking him upside the face, btw! And aside from that, this event has now given me a lead-in to an idea I've had for a while, wherein Mirror Bakura is going to be ultimately petty.

While in loser space, if anyone actually talks to him, he's going to insinuate that he has plans to get back at his Real for being a coward (not being part of the chess match) and for making them BOTH weak physically by being the way he is, since now when he loses, it's Ryou's fault obviously.

OOCly, what he's getting at is that he's nicked Ryou's journal. He's had it for a while and he's going to disperse the pages in random peoples' rooms. Ftr, the journal represents a very intensely personal part of Ryou and is basically a diary written in the form of letters to his sister. Who is, uh. Not alive.

So although that has nothing to do with this event as it stands now, JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE that if anyone wants in, or is curious about it, I'm gonna work on that post chess. :V I thought I'd put feelers out while also plotting for HUMAN COMBAT CHESS...

ALSO I'm down for having anyone spectate the chess match with poor Ryou, who is going to probably be concerned for his mirror just a little, and also be extremely uncomfortable seeing his mirror for the first time. But he's going to honestly be glad it's a chess match and not an all out war...well, a little. Because in his world, games have almost always had crazy consequences for loss.

Souji (white pawn -> white queen), et al

So Souji is a pawn who becomes a queen, but he doesn't capture anyone and he isn't captured, he just ...'s his way across the board in a straight line. The most he can do is talk to the people around him, which for about half the game is no one. :| But! For the times he is close by, he will talk to people!

And everyone else is in the bleachers! That includes Souji's Mirror, Naoki and Satoru, and their respective Mirrors. I am all about bleacher shenanigans, so if anyone wants to plot for that, by all means!

Real Lapis wants nothing to do with this, is staying as far away from the proceedings as possible, and hates everything extra intensely right now. Forget her.

M'Lapis doesn't want to have to be personally involved in this war crap either, but as it turns out she's a dang queen and that's cool. She can get into that. Indeed I kind of suspect she might end up having fun with it. I mean, with such an important role, she has to put on a good show, right?

Per the script, she will be capturing Tim Drake, Clementine and Monika, so let's chat about that. M'Lapis is a nicer Mirror and will gladly accept surrender from poor sad Reals who understandably don't want to fight her. On the other hand, if she's gotta do a murder she doesn't actually have much problem with that either, and without a surrender she's fairly unlikely to stop halfway for a few reasons. Still, this is quite flexible. Like the Real Lapis she can be very powerful (and fancy!) with water tricks, and since she's getting a chance to prepare and bring supplies, she'll be equipped to make the most of her encounters.

He is going to spend his time in the stands heckling his Mirror and being really disappointed when the bastard fucking wrecks everything. His annoyed ranting will be heard from space.

Mirror Rocket is here to clean house. He is wielding a MASSIVE FUCKING GUN, so... prepare to be shot all of you many, many people he's going to capture. You can beat him up in the holding area later. He'll be real pissed he came so far and then got beaten up by a teenager. /blows a kiss to Zoe

As for the rest of my crew....

MABEL is here to support the Reals and also because when the hell are you ever going to see a real live human chess game?? She'll be here offering support to the Reals and heckling the Mirrors.

MIRROR MABEL, on the other hand, is bored by the whole thing and is only here to stir shit and try to make things terrible for her Real. She showed up dressed EXACTLY like real Mabel, but she doesn't have braces so her ruse is kind of pointless, but hey if you see her being a jerk from a distance it's kind of weird, right?


MIRROR PERIDOT is basically just here to record data and judge the other Mirrors for shitty tactics and try to figure out a strategy for how best to win if there's ever a rematch. She'll be so disappointed in all the Mirrors for losing, like it's THEIR FAULT and not the Queen's.

PERIDOT... kinda sneaked away to observe so she'll be hiding under the bleachers like a bleacher gremlin, because she was curious about Mirror Lapis and also... because the war wasn't she expected and she doesn't want to be blindsided by something weird while she's holed up ignoring this with her roomie.

Papyrus will be a pawn for this match! He's gonna move in a straight line, watch as some reals and mirrors pass by him and then be taken down by Mirror Rocket. He'll still put up one hell of a fight! Other than that, he'll still appear to be friendly to the many players that will be passing through.

Everyone else will be watching the matches willingly!

Turing has a few friends in the match, so they'll be keeping an eye on them. They'll also be eyeing down the mirror counterparts of their fellow robot friends, just to see what they're capable of.

Mirror Turing wouldn't have a problem with this match except that they literally cannot leave the bleachers to wander into the real mansion, so what's the point? They want to steal stuff. They'll be mostly unresponsive, just staring at the match like watching paint dry.

Mirror Papyrus is only going to be watching his Real and just...riffing on what he's doing to himself. He's not going to be surprised at all when he goes down - yeesh, this is why you should up your LV, real counterpart...

She doesn't need a weapon, she is the weapon, so she'll be using her bare hands to probably snap a neck. And she'll be wanting this fight, badly. She never gets captured either so fuck yeah.

Regular Jane is going to hate watching this with every part of her!!! She wholly hates her mirror because her mirror is literally just her back before she lost all of her memories. She'll probably be doing a lot of apologizing to the poor person her mirror murdered.

Henry Mills will be in the stands with his family and just kind of popcorning his way through the whole thing. No mirror for him because I only conquered my laziness enough for one mirror of mine to make an appearance lmao.

Claire Fraser is going to be like 'are you shitting me, I prepared this much for CHESS' until she realizes some mirrors are insane and want to murder people. So, if you need medical assistance (mirror OR real because she swore an OATH and she takes it VERY SERIOUSLY) please come to the tent near the bleachers. During the 'willingly make your way to the bleachers' portion she'll have grabbed more than one pack of supplies and made her husband carry the tent, thanks Jamie. ALSO she'll be meeting mirror!Crowley for clinic talk.

Michonne is done with wars, this is y'alls shit she'll be over her chillin' and someone can feel free to be like 'yo can you come here with your katana' and she'll assist if need be.

Kokichi Oma and his Mirror

Kokichi is gonna be weirded out by the war being a giant chess match, but that means he doesn't have to worry as much and popcorn the match! Until he gets bored and decides to go bother people...

Then he'll finally meet his mirror! Who was... Kind of hiding under the bleachers for a good chunk of the game. They'll end up getting into an argument, but since the mirror is a bit of a coward, it ends peacefully enough... With Kokichi potentially blackmailing his mirror into staying quiet about what he and his gang is really up to.

Being a bystander, she'll want to treat people's wounds ASAP! So she'll be with Claire to treat wounds and try not to become a hysterical mess. Otherwise, up for anything!

Mirror Starlight - Black Pawn, then Black Queen!

Starlight doesn't do much this game besides murder the fuck out of Pearl (sorry Pearl), but she does get to become Queen at the end! And survives the entire match. As a pawn, she'll be doing a lot of standing around not being able to move and there are a few people who spend a lot of time right next to her who she'll definitely strike up conversations with. Max, Clementine, and Minato she spends especially long with, but Shepard, Stan, and Papyrus also get significant time with her.

She is going to be insufferably smug about becoming a Queen.

I am totally cool with all the Mirror Starlight conversations. And in the end, she'll get to watch Minato get murdered in the square right next to her, so. Fun times. This will make all other subsequent conversations interesting too?

Mirror Sunburst (And all the rest)

Mirror Sunburst will be a Black Rook. He's not very combat orientated at all, but he's mostly here as an excuse to get into the Queen's good graces and maybe mess with some of his Real's friends with his skeevy mind games. He's going to be ultimately captured by Jean, which he'll be less pleased about.

Real Sunburst will be kicking himself because a chess game was one of his theories and he went and exercised when he never needed to. This will be the first time he'll see his Mirror and once he realises the Mirror Sunburst uses dark magic, he's gonna be freaking out pretty hard. Otherwise, he's here to support his friends and hope none of them die.

Both Mirror and Real Grendel think this is pretty damn dumb and will be sitting this out- relaxing in the garden or in the bar respectively. Though at least Mirror Gren will be happy to chat to people and probably will try to make friends if he gets a chance to mingle. Real Gren will absolutely not.

Real Starlight, George, Dipper, Maze, and their mirrors

I don't have plans for all of these yet, but they're definitely all open for plotting! Here's what I know will be happening:

George is going to be poking around and testing the limits of where they're allowed to go. She'll be annoyed at the entire situation like she's glad it's not really war but what the fuck. Also CONCERNED ABOUT HER KIDS OUT THERE. She's going to spend time trying to talk with Mirrors because while she still wants to start a revolution, even though war turned out to just be chess.

She knows exactly what it means, and it's just a reminder of everything she's trying to redeem herself for. But this is her first big exposure to the weirdness that is Wonderland, so she'll be very curious to see what goes on, and especially curious about trying to figure out what sort of magics the Queens are using to keep them all here.

MIRROR CHLOE DECKER: Obvs black pawning it up in on the chessboard of life. She has zero fighting skills and no love for the queen but she puts on a good show. Luckily she gets knocked out of gameplay pretty quickly because I'm not underselling how useless she is. She gets to knock Max out first somehow, and then Minato takes her out so let's figure out how that goes down.

REAL CHLOE DECKER: She'll be watching in the stands because she wants to keep an eye on things in case they go south, and will be juggling that with trying to get Maze to not start a bleacher brawl.

MIRROR JULIA SHUMWAY: Will definitely be in attendance, probably scoping out her own Real and anything else she can steal for the Queen, but mostly keeping to herself.

REAL JULIA SHUMWAY: In the bleachers taking pictures and documenting everything, obviously. This isn't exactly how she pictured being a war correspondent but she's working with what she's got.

Monika is going to spend this entire thing terrified out of her goddamn mind.

She has absolutely zero combat experience. The worst fight she's been a part of was watching two of her club members verbally spar over her love interest. Her expectations for the war were totally wrong and she will be full of regret. She thought she'd be able to stay on the sidelines and vaguely help, but nooo.

Seeing as she's going to spend a chunk the game doing absolutely nothing but watching others getting messed the hell up, she's going to be gradually getting more and more frazzled. By the time she does move, she's going to expect the absolute worse every time. Picture that bit in Family Guy where Stewie never knows when Brian's going to get him back. That'll be her, expecting a fight and getting nothing. So when she finally comes up against Mirror Lapis, she'll be the gooiest puddle of goo ever. Enjoy all of her whimpers, people around her! At least she'll feel better in the holding room afterwards.

Jessica, meanwhile, is going to get the scare of her fucking life. When the match starts, she'll have gone to bed for the day, since she has no choice in the matter. Then suddenly she'll be slapped awake by the realization that she's outside in her pajamas. Cue the absolute worst screams ever and running for shelter under the bleachers.

It's going to take her a while to realize she's not actually burning to into a steaming puddle of blood thanks to the power of ~Wonderland magic~. Even then, she'll be extremely terrified of going into the sun, no matter how cool it is to see it again. #vampireworldproblems

She'll probably meet her equally terrified Mirror too and be freaked out by that. She's going to have the best of days. <3

Jessica and her mirror might run into another Mirror hiding under the bleachers for different reasons. He will probably freak out at the vampires. Fun.

Jolyne is going to be a pawn and move around a few times before getting killed by Mirror Jane. She's going to get to watch Josuke get captured too, so that's going to be a mess. Once she gets to the undisclosed area, she's probably going to freak out and then sort of go back to normal once she realizes she's not dead. Or at least act like she's back to normal. This is going to include giving Josuke shit for being the Queen and getting captured before her because she's not passing up that opportunity. Other than that, she'll be watching the game and probably doing her best to stay out of trouble in the holding area, she'd rather not die again, thanks.

Both Ryokos will be spectating and watching the game! I'm going to put up a prompt for both of them since they'll both be taking notes on the game! Real Ryoko is very interested in seeing how the people she knows do and will probably be very upset about some of the pieces being captured. Her mirror on the other hand isn't terribly invested in her side, but there's a few people on the Real side she's interested in seeing play. Either way, they'll both be around for people to interact with throughout the event!

Kiyotaka Ishimaru and Steven Universe should both be present as spectators! And their mirrors too, although I don't think I'll be playing them at this time.

Steven Universe will be stressed and on the edge of his seat the whole match, and probably too worried to even properly protest the match. He'll be especially distraught when Pearl is taken down.

And Kiyotaka Ishimaru is... a mystery! I still have to put together his now-backdated canon update return post, and hopefully I'll get on that soon! But yeah, Ishimaru may or may not still be Kiyondo at this time. But he'll probably still be hurt by some of the losses on the chess field!
