[Accidental Video]

[The problem with science is sometimes it can take too long. There's time in the middle to be idle, time to kill and no deaths to find interest in. There is simply so much time to just think on the things he can't forget and ruminate on all his failures. With an audience, Sherlock's narcissistic, arrogant, antagonistic attitude is neigh unstoppable but alone he is simply quiet, ghosting around his room in his dressing gown with a sullen expression on his face.

He picks up his violin and starts to play near the windows looking out, the sad melody finally completed as he expresses himself in the only way he really knows how.]

[The strings quiver with power, even though his answer is unskilled. Sona does not miss a beat, and continues where he left off. The song continues off on it's own, despite the bow squeaking. How is it that her music feels..encouraging? As if she is forgiving of his misstep.]

libraritology: (nothing but time and a face you lose)

[personal profile] libraritology 2012-05-13 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[The problem with science is that it is objective.

The scientific method preaches beginning with a query, doing a substantial amount of research, and then forming a hypothesis. An experiment is tested, perhaps, and then the theory is adjusted to suit the results. Rinse, and repeat.

Emotions are not viable data within the unbiased construct, because they are a compromising factor. They can colour the impersonal, alter judgments, make people...irrational.

But music, well...after silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

And so Evelyn listens quietly to the transmission, marveling at the feeling, just long enough to realise who is playing before she tenses, frowns, and switches the communicator off.

[Jim hadn't been aware he composed, though he'd been aware of the possibility. A 'might' and 'could' and plenty of maybe. Doesn't matter. He knows, now.

So he lets the song run its course, listening in contemplative silence without beginning a reply feed. By the time Sherlock is done he's made it to a piano. Sits down and opens the feed just as he starts playing as well.]

[He listened tentively to the sad yet lovely melodies coming from the violin. Jay's eyes novere left his friends face as if trying to see if he really was ok. Sherlock is far to hard to read though so he gives up and just relaxs as he listened silently before he finished.]

That was really good.

[He smiled slightly before it went back to his normal blank expression.]

[John was about to casually make his way into the remade 221B living room when the quiver of violin chords made him pause, hand pressed against the door.

Sherlock was playing.

And the music that shivered through the air--Bach, he recalled from his school days as well as Sherlock's musical repertoire--is sad toned, accompanied by what sounds like a piano through a radio, or some electronic device. Is Sherlock... playing a duet with someone? He's never heard the detective play in tandem with someone else.

He pushes the door open, freezing as he watched the detective dictate the last few notes from his violin before turning off his communication device, something about his expression pulling at the doctor. He fumbled awkwardly for a conversation starter, one that didn't imply his lingering outside the closed door like an eavesdropper.]

...Bach?

[He made it sound like a guess, gathered from the notes he had made his appearance for.]

[John watched Sherlock go through the motions of putting the violin away, licking his lips thoughtfully.]

Right. Obviously.

[His gaze wanders over Sherlock's half turned back, frowning slightly. The haunting tone still rang in his ears.]

Rather melancholy sounding stuff. Could have sworn I heard a piano too... You doing alright?
