003. [video/action]
[ Aerith pops on screen looking a little winded, and maybe just a tiny bit frantic.
See, she has this Materia - a tiny little ball of glowy magic, courtesy of her mother - and she's managed to lose it.
There's no telling where the thing is. Usually, she tucks it up tightly in her ribbon, but recently she's been pretty distracted with the arrival of some of her favorite people, and maybe she's let her routine slide just the tiniest bit.
Whatever the reason, it's now gone and after she's turned her room upside down in her search, she figures she'll put out a message on the network in case anyone's found it. ]
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've lost something of mine. It's green and about this size. [ And she props her little device on a side table, so she can stand back and make a shape with her hands. ] It's not big enough to really stand out, but it's not small enough to fall through any cracks or vents.
[ She picks up her device again, sighing. In all the time she's had her mother's Materia on her, she hasn't lost it. Not like this. Especially not in a mansion that likes to throw monsters and tricks their way. ]
I'm going to look more through the mansion, but if anyone comes across it, give me a heads up?
[OOC: Just a heads up - she won't be finding it anytime soon, but everyone is welcome to help her. Also, feel free to run into her anywhere - she'll be searching high and low and through the grounds. ]

That's actually what the theory is back home, that she spread a sickness. The Cetra were a peaceful race - they lived for the planet, so they weren't prepared for something like that.
[ History lessons with Aerith. Who happens to have some inside knowledge to the whole thing, since she can talk to Cetra long since passed.
Something else she'll keep to herself for the time being. Having healing powers is one thing - hearing the dead speak is entirely another. ]
Do you not have a lot of alien invasions where you're from? [ Slightly teasing, but a move to focus the topic less on her. ]
( video )
Er, no, invasions are strictly a human thing where I'm from. [ Wow what an awkward topic. He could spend all day tripping over himself with justifications and excuses but that would just lead to more uncomfortable discussions. Instead he decides to just... not explain things and move on. ]
Always wanted to meet an alien though! Not a mean one, of course, but I've always had this dream of meeting someone from beyond the stars.
I guess Wonderland kinda counts? Meeting a lot of humans, but there's a couple other races I ain't familiar with mixed in.
( video )
Absolutely nothing. ]I'd say it counts! We do have an interesting mix of people here, don't we? And a dragon. [ A sweet, cute beast that she found absolutely adorable. ] I always think I'm past being surprised about who or what shows up next, and I'm proven wrong frequently.
[ It's actually been pretty fun for her, to tell the truth. She loves meeting people, and meeting people from other worlds? Even more exciting. ]
( video )
[ There's some Jurassic Park noises in reply. Clearly nothing out of the ordinary here. ]
I know what ya mean. Apparently I'm something that's unbelievable to people, which is kinda strange since countries walkin' around are kinda a normal thing where I'm from. You wanna talk strange, you should go look at that orange shih tzu-bear hybrid, Borat.
[ Lorax, Borat, same thing. ]
( video )
Yes, a dragon! He's very sweetnatured, I found him outside one day. I wonder what it would be like to fly on him?
[ Her voice goes a little dreamy on that, but she needs to focus! ]
Countries? [ He gets a curious head tilt at that. Also at Borat, though she's met the Lorax before. She's just so unfamiliar with his descriptions. ] I'd think being here would make people believe everything at this point.
( video )
[ He joins her in getting a dreamy look. A plan is forming to go find this dragon, befriend the shit out of it, and take him and Aerith through a little ride through the clouds. First he's gotta find the dragon though.
Oh, right, but more on that plan later. America snaps out of his thoughts. ]
You'd think so, but I still get some confused looks. Gotta admit that I still get surprised every now and then. Wait, I told you what I am right? That I'm a country? 'Cause... yeah.
[ Honestly it makes it easier not to reveal what he is until people ask, but he likes Aerith enough that he doesn't mind going through the spiel again for her. ]
( video )
[ Things aren't divided like that on Gaia - it's like 'MIDGAR' and then 'the rest of the Planet' with a little 'Costa Del Sol' for beach times.
Also, the town names get a little ridiculous, but she thinks nothing of it. There's a severe lack of creativity in the government that's in charge. ]
I believe you though! [ Not that there's much she won't believe at this point, but she'll leave that unsaid. ]
( video )
[ She may believe that he's a country, but he's having a hard time wrapping his head around someone who doesn't even know what a country is. ]
Seriously? Ya don't got countries where you're from?! I can get that they ain't personified, even if that's weird to me, but none at all?! What.
[ America is not quite as chill as Aerith. He shakes his head. ]
Okay where do I even begin. Uh. Tell me ya got territories where you're from at least. Land that's shared by a bunch of people, usually with some shared culture or government. Maybe it works differently in Europe with all their royalty and principalities and who knows what, but that's all startin' to get outdated. It's all about nations now.
Well. A nation is a country but it's... it's more than just land with a bunch of people on it owned by a king. It's people held together by ideology. In my case, it's the principles of freedom and rights. Even if the fight is a continuing one, it's not one any of my people ever give up on. [ He actually looks pretty proud of himself right now. ]
So that's what I am: land, culture, people, politics, and ideas all packaged up in one handsome body!
( video )
[ His explanation makes sense, even if she has no clue what Europe is, but that's okay. She won't mention it. She can see his pride, and she gives him a smile. While it sounds kind of far fetched, who is she to say it's not true? ]
I can see why people have a hard time believing you. I'll assume people from your country...er, you. [ There's a furrow in her brow at this, because okay this conversation got a little strange. ] I assume they find it hard to swallow.
( video )
[ That's just a vague estimate he actually doesn't know anything that went on before the 1600s. As far as he's concerned the time line of Earth's events go "God created the world -> dinosaurs -> Noah's Ark -> Ancient Greeks??? Babylon?? Vikings??? -> Roman Empire -> Jesus -> there's some other countries now idgaf wasn't there like a renaissance or shakespeare or something who knows -> America (-> Jesus 2.0 and Mormons???)"
He is a well informed individual, obviously. In later years he will add "Game of Thrones" and "Lord of the Rings" into the time line. ]
[ shrug ] Maybe so. Don't matter much either way, just makes everything easier when people believe me. Back home it's not met with as much surprise, so the disbelief ain't as rampant as here. Oh well! Americans here are still American, even if they ain't technically from my world. Still mine in a sense. Still my responsibility.
( video )
[ And she remembers that she was looking for something before she derailed the conversation. Oops? She can't help it, she loves hearing about people and their stories. ]
I should probably start searching again, but if you run across a large, green marble let me know. It might be just what I'm looking for.
( video )
Yeah sure, no problem. I'll be on the lookout for your heirloom. We can save the tales for another day when ya got it back.
[ He gives a lazy salute and lopsided grin. Boy does he love talking about himself, and to find someone that actually wants to listen is a rare thing. ]
( video )
victimlistener! ]Sounds good! I'll talk to you later!
[ And the feed cuts out as she ends it. Now to start on a Hunt for Materia.... ]
