If the bloodletting isn't literal then they'd never survive on Silas. What with the literal armed combat requirement. Generally the Dean encouraged faculty to take a viking approach to things they wanted. If you take it and keep it you deserved it. If not, you make do.

[ And doesn't Philip know it. It used to be a sore subject, loss of life and all that, but nowadays there's barely an aftertaste's worth left of his bitterness. Still, it's hard not to flinch a little at the reminder of how poorly he fared once he traded all that academic dust for the brain parasites of his own world. ]

You're clearly underestimating the raw savagery of passive-aggressively worded paperwork. One time our department sent out invitations to meet for drinks around Christmas, and the card I got had my name written with two Ls instead of one. That's one entire extra L, and I'm about 85% sure that it was done on purpose.

It is all because people fear change that they attack us. Those of us with HYDRA are ready for the fighting to end. We see a path to peace and we are willing to do what it takes to travel that path, but unfortunately, that frightens people. They are used to the death and destruction wrought by war. They don't know how to handle a future without this chaos, so they demonise us. Change is what HYDRA represents. We're visionaries. Peace, citizen. That is HYDRA's goal.

If your interest is in HYDRA, I would be more than happy to enlighten you.

[ Philip has already taken the network's advice to heart, and made the caves his temporary home. Supplied and secured he barely gives a second thought to anything other than passing the time until the event blows over.

All the same he knows the sort of impact Wonderland's reminiscences can have on those they concern directly, and "it'll be over in a week tops" offers only so much reassurance when you've been treated to a second helping of your personal nightmares. ]

So, seeing as you were one of the two votes [ and the person supposedly to blame for this in the first place, though it would take a good deal more spite for Philip to repeat that], why did you decide to unsubscribe? Or how, for that matter? [ He's been there, that's what the transmission said, though whether by force or choice it didn't mention. ] "Run and hide" works as a beginner's guide, but it's not much of a permanent solution.

[ And there it is. He's turned down a more high-flying sort of rhetoric for less, but this time the stakes are nowhere near as personal. Nor his decision as lasting, he'd imagine. ]

I'm listening. So far it sounds like the sort of campaign made for an ordinary universe. How does it work in Wonderland?

Our goals are the same here in Wonderland. Bring peace and order to all sides. A synergistic unity of not only the people here, but those beyond the glass. There is documentation of not only the citizens turning against eachother here, but the ghosts of the other side crossing the glass to infiltrate and deceive the residents here--even murdering under the guise of friends. In HYDRA's future, neither instance would be a fear to worry about. Absolute cooperation. The only worries the citizens here would have would be of the magic of this place itself. We would stand united against these threats with a designated and organised task force of ultimate soldiers. Imagine, you would never have to lift a finger in your own defence. We would keep everyone safe. You wouldn't have to concern yourselves with anything more than just enjoying life.

[You know, except for the part where HYDRA owns everything and controls everything and you probably don't want to step out of line... Not that she'll mention those details. Nope. Freedom cannot be taken away, it must be given away so as to keep everyone complacent.]
