011 ✦ Jane, Fitz, and Darcy Joint Video - 4th Floor Lab Explosion

[ ooc: Darcy is blue, Fitz is red, and Jane is purple. ]

[ Darcy hadn’t really been spending a lot of time in either of the labs after this whole mess, not wanting to be around someone who was so good at getting under her skin it should’ve been an art form. But, even with everything that happened, she couldn’t stay away forever. Besides, she was helping Jane with the aether research while everyone else handed other Wonderland related things. You can’t just magnetize glitter and then ditch someone. Of course, maybe she wouldn’t have been saying that if she’d known what was going to happen.

Which is what brings her to addressing the network with a slight look of panic, even if she’s trying to maintain her cool. For those in the know, she’s not fighting with Fitz right now, so… Progress? ]

Houston, we have a problem. Slight complication in the lab, may turn into a much bigger issue depending on how this goes. [ Despite her best attempts to play nice, it’s hard to not shoot Fitz a dirty look and let her tone take a turn to the salty side. And though her sass levels are reaching critical mass, the offscreen brogue that replies doesn’t rise to the prodding. He’s softspoken and quick instead, because there is literally no time for this. ]

The area of effect seems to be a column in shape. Rooms along the fifty-two block might want to strongly consider evacuation.

Darcy, do you have a hairpin?

Yeah, for once. And just for a little clarification on that, we’re on the fourth floor. So if you’re around this area either below or above, it might not be a bad idea to listen to him. [ Considering she normally wore her hair down, it was rare for her to have much of anything on her. But, a few things had changed over the past weeks - including her wearing her glasses more often than contacts and her hair pulled back. She removes the one that had been keeping some of the shorter strands out of her face, quickly handing it over before returning her attention to the small device in her other hand. Guess who’s really trying to not draw attention to the fact that they’d agreed on something and she actually said the words listen to him. ] Something happened that set the aether off. We’re trying to keep it from damaging anything other than the lab, but it kind of has a mind of its own. [ She gives look offscreen to check to see if she actually has time to explain or if she needs to just ask people to trust her on this one with a promise for answers if they survive it. ] It turns things into dark matter. There was a convergence back home that opened up weird portals and then Dark Elves tried to plunge the universe into darkness using it and -- It’s bad news bears. [ Less ramble, more to the point. She can do this. ]

While you talk to the rest of them, could you apply pressure to this piece? I’m running out of ways to complete this circuit.

[ For much of the remaining feed, Darcy’s face is lit with a tint that alternates between blue and red. It might be best not to ask. It tends to be a good rule of thumb that if Darcy’s not questioning something, it’s either because she trusts the other person or the situation is just starting to head in that bad of a direction that there’s no time. ] Yeah, I -- [ She complies with the request before looking back to check on Jane, not expecting an interruption. ]

Darcy. [ Jane's seated, weary as evidenced by her slouch. The camera pans slightly to show her as Darcy’s full attention is turned with her name. Jane’s eyes shine unnaturally as she looks up, the still flashing red and blue lights not helping at all. ] It's happening again-- get down!

[ The camera still has Jane somewhat in view, Darcy no longer paying attention to keeping it on any one point. Red tint envelops the feed, the atmosphere around the trio cloying with the unnatural hue of the aether spreading its influence against Wonderland's magic and rippling outward through the mansion. Darcy doesn’t hesitate to grab Fitz and hit the ground, hoping whatever he’d been working on helps in keeping this from destroying a solid chunk of the mansion. Objects seem to turn at random to dark matter. The stool beneath Jane seems to dissipate into nothing, as do various pieces of equipment and assorted belongings around them. Sensors and alarms ring out through the lab, electronic panic ineffectual against the power of the infinity stone at work. And that’s when the feed cuts, suddenly and almost violently. ]

[ ooc: For those who are canon blind, here’s a handy dandy link about the aether. If you’d like your character/your character’s objects or room to be hit by a bad bout of dark matter, feel free. It’s totally up to you on how much or how little or maybe even not at all. This will be affecting floors 3, 4, and 5 for dark matter shenanigans per mod approval. Action is welcome to come to the lab afterwards. Please specify if you want a particular char response, otherwise one or all will respond. ]

[This is fine. This is fine everything's fine they can handle this. It's hard to handle this when there's an entire person's body weight holding him down, but they can do this.

Or they can die. He's been told dying is an option. He'd rather not test it out.]

[Also Darcy could maybe get up. That's a thing she's welcome to do.]

[Wanda is out of the line of fire for the time being, but that doesn't mean she can turn a blind eye. She looks entirely unamused even as she sets herself into motion, her mouth set into a hard line.]

Whose idea was this, anyway?

[As if that matters.]

This aether-- what's already escaped the lab may be a lost cause for the time being, but as for what remains, could it be contained? I may be able to help keep anything more from escaping the source for a short amount of time, if it would help you to stabilize things.

[But no promises. Her shields aren't exactly fool-proof. Certainly not guaranteed aether-proof]

[Fortunately dark matter is kind of Rick's whole thing, so when random shit in his room starts turning into motherfucking dark matter, it's just a matter of concentrating it and storing it and bam, instant fuel for the UFO he's gonna build. But it's still fucking annoying, because there goes his lamp and there goes his desk and all the shit on it falls to the floor and now there's acid melting through his floor god damn it.]

Oh, wh-why am I not surprised that the next science magic bullshit fucking up the mansion and it's, it's the Scottish guy involved? Alright, fuck, are any of you still alive, c-cause I n-need to know how widespread this is if I'm gonna contain this shit.

[Bethany's rooms are on the fourth floor, and the dark matter has certainly crept its way into her suite. She's got an armful of squirming pets (a kitten and puppy, respectively) with her as she turns on the feed, brow furrowed.

It's best to stay calm in stressful situations, she recites to herself, to allow maximum efficiency and minimum loss of life.]

Maker...whatever this is, I was able to slow the crawl of it down in my room. It's just down the hall from the source, I think -- would my help be welcome?

[ another particle accelerator explosion. the last one worked out so well for him — and in all seriousness, it actually did, considering barry has his speed back. but this … this isn't cool. this is what he'd been fearing when harry wanted to rebuild the particle accelerator to give him his speed back, and he hadn't wanted to risk it affecting everyone in the city again. ]

[ first thing first: google what is an aether?. ]

[ some would say it's uncharacteristic of barry to really think first before he acts, but it's important he try and keep his identity a secret. consider it practice for the future where he becomes some big hero battling reverse-flash with superheroes he can't quite connect to the people in his life ten years before a big event occurs. the person who's on the video isn't barry allen. it's the flash, red mask and vibrating voice and all. ]

What's an aether and how do we stop it?

[ When the video feed clicks on to reply, the camera is shaking. Carolina, fully armoured, is hurrying down the hallway of the fourth floor to the stairs in order to avoid this whole goddamn mess that is, in fact, going to be affecting her room. Thank you, scientists. ]

Should any of us even ask why you thought it was a good idea to keep something that can do this inside the mansion?!

[ Her tone of voice is beyond annoyed, it's full on angry. ]

You clearly know what it can do, the damage it can cause, if you dealt with it back home. So what the hell were you thinking?

[HO HO HOLY SHIT!!! Alphys lets out a little shriek, already prepping to run over there.]

[ Have a very unimpressed looking scientist. ~~Like he's one to judge.~~ He may have already to contain what his lab equipment became to no effect. He's in the hall of the fourth floor, the door to his lap falling shut behind him. Seriously. WTF did you guys do. ]

What means, if any, can be used to contain this "dark matter" that you've unleashed on us?

[ You can practically hear the quotes around the words. Because what he saw wasn't dark matter. Dark matter in his world is something completely different and is at the root of giving people super powers. It certainly isn't weird red floaty goop. ]

[ Yeah he's not going to bother hiding behind text or video when dark matter leaking through the mansion is involved. ]

What's the status of the situation? Have you managed to contain it, or are we still at risk? Should the mansion be getting evacuated?

[ Because if so, they should get people working on that as soon as possible. Not that Bruce feels particularly like playing the hero role right now, but he's not letting people get swallowed by the aether either. ]

If you still need help with containment, I might be able to. I'd have to— take a look at what you're working with.

[ Natasha is on the move the moment she sees the feed, flipping one open in return as she immediately heads for the lab, in lieu of having a better destination. ]

I can't leave you alone for five minutes, can I?

[ That's said dryly, a note of humor as she hurries down a set of stairs. ]

Where do you need my assistance? Is Jane alright?

[ The fact that Darcy and Fitz are actually in the same room and working more or less as a team is hint enough that something serious is going on. There had always been the risk of the aether overpowering Jane's control, but Steve had been hoping they could avoid this.

Jane had entrusted him to be there when something like this happened, so he's already on his way to the lab even as he opens up the feed. ]

Are you all okay? Jane, I'm on my way.

[ Now that this is actually happening, Steve's not sure what he actually can do to stop a force like the aether. That's an infinity stone in action, what could he hope to do to stop it? But he's still going to try. ]
