Second Gem | Video

[The feed opens up with Pearl, looking down into it. She looks a little irritated, but her brows furrow and she adjusts the screen accordingly before stepping back a few feet. All of her now being in frame. The Gem gives a small wave after clearing her throat.]

Greetings once again, Wonderland. This is Pearl, and I come to you all today with an offer.

[The gem in her forehead glows brightly. Closing her eyes, Pearl reaches inside the actual gem itself, extracting a rapier blade from inside it. That's right folks.

She pulls a sword from inside her head. Or, gem, specifically.

Pearl twirls the sword in her hand before she rests the tip of it against the floor.]

I would like to offer my services. I specialize in swordsmanship. I have a couple thousand years of experience. I'm willing to teach anyone, and it doesn't matter your skill level. Wonderland can be unpredictable, so it's better to be prepared, right?

For, now I'm gauging interest. Plus, it would be great, for myself, to start practicing again.

[A beat.]

Oh, and I could offer dance lessons if anyone is interested!

[After being here a few months Dean's already resigned himself to the fact that this is totally normal but that doesn't mean that some chick pulling a sword from her head isn't something he can avoid commenting on.]

What are you?

[Frisk watches the broadcast with wide-eyed interest. They know her, they think. They've seen her before, haven't they? Right, right! Now they remember!

So that means she must be a...a gem, right? They don't remember what her name was, but then she helpfully supplies it. "Pearl".

This takes them back, a little bit. Back to when they had Ballet Shoes and an Old Tutu, or when they posed dramatically for Mettaton. That could be fun.]

What kind of dancing?

[HOLY HECK THIS WOMAN JUST PULLED A SWORD OUT OF HER FACE]

Swordsmanship? Golly, sign me up!

[Can't be all that different from knifesmanship, right? Only difference is that one's a little bigger than the other.]

One must know how to defend oneself, right? Better not take any chances.

I am afraid that I am not too interested in either swordsmanship or dancing, however it is nice that you are willing to share your knowledge like that!

...Though, I do hope that you are being careful about who you are teaching how to use a weapon to. Not everybody is old enough to use a deadly weapon yet, after all.

[Looking at you, Chara.]

Ballet! I know -

[Then they abruptly stop talking, because they don't know ballet. They've worn a tutu and used a pair of old shoes to cut down the heroine who appeared to stop them. That's not the same thing.]

I mean, I think ballet's really cool? And, and I'd like to learn it for real.
fulllifeconsequences: (I know I'd disappoint somehow)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-08-02 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't actually know in the slightest! Could be a hundred, could be fifty, could be anything.

[How long were they dead? How does your age change depending on the vessel that carries your SOUL? Still don't have much answer to either question.]

But Frisk's thirteen, so I'm pretending to be too. That's old enough to use a sword. It's old enough to use a knife. A gun. Fists. A frying pan. Old ballet shoes. ...You get what I mean.

That still sounds a little unsafe... Wood is still very much capable of hurting others! They could get a nasty bruise!

Besides, I do not think that you should be teaching children how to use weapons anyway. It sends the wrong kind of message, and it seems especially dangerous in a place like this! I do not think there is anything stopping someone from simply asking the closets for a real sword, is there?
mulletrock: (sarcastic: low b.s. tolerance.)

[personal profile] mulletrock 2016-08-02 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so you're an alien.

[That was a lot less complicated than a sentient rock. How the hell does that work? Dean isn't drinking enough to get on that level. Still, he can appreciate what she's offering- more people needed to know how to defend themselves.]

Because that's not weird at all. Man, this place has some pull.
fulllifeconsequences: (* You call this a performance?)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-08-02 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
No, but they let me have sharp things all the same. Wouldn't it be better if I were instructed in the proper, safer way to handle them?

Or maybe you're saying that it's best if I just do it through utterly unsupervised trial-and-error. Because I could always do that, if you don't feel good about giving lessons to just anyone.
determinedest: (* You refuse to fight the Lost Soul.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-08-02 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to learn!

[Actual, real dancing, not just the kind where they're using it as an offensive measure! Frisk bounces in the spot, unable to contain their delighted grin.]

I'm Frisk, by the way. Are you - you're a gem, right?
didntknowbest: (Oh crap too much fire)

[personal profile] didntknowbest 2016-08-02 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
They could simply try to talk and defuse the situation, or, failing that, simply run away! Let someone who is old enough to handle it take care of things.

That is exactly my point! If you are teaching them, then they may want to try with a real one, and they may overestimate their skills and get hurt, or you may inadvertently teach them that violence is the way to solve problems!

[Admittedly, dance lessons sound fun. But Souji actually does have some experience with a sword, so he'll address that first.]

After a couple thousand years, you've got to be amazing. I'd be interested in learning from you.

What sort of swordsmanship?

[Those who'd offered to continue her training with the sword here were more used to hacking and slashing with broadswords than the more delicate style of water dancing, which Arya is desperate to continue with.]

mulletrock: (normal: thinking)

[personal profile] mulletrock 2016-08-03 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's nothing new, but I'm not sure it compares to a sentient rock or whatever you said.

[As curious as he is, Dean's not even gonna ask how that works. Whatever brought the rock to life or made it self-aware. There's no way she should even be able to pull the sword out of her head. It's definitely up there with some of the weirdest stuff he's seen.]
