[Sam knows this isn't a dream, he doesn't have the imagination for it. What he doesn't know is where the hell he is and if anybody from home is here, too. He should play it cool right? Yeah, he should play it cool.]

So, I'm lookin' for a guy, well three guys. One's always on my left.

[Nice. Kinda cryptic, too. He's not much of a spy, but it might be enough to make Nat proud.]

The second guy's real small and no fun at picnics. [Even better.] Third, uh, likes birds? Might've been a bird at some point, it's hard to tell.

[There's a pause. He's gotten off track.]

And there's a girl. Sweet, has an accent, could kick your ass if she thought about it long enough. If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about, cause I sure don't, hit me up.

[Here's to hoping they can crack that code.]

see, that's the thing. i looked and he's not there. looked a couple of times let me tell you.

Girl sounds like someone I know, but that's just cause most women I know are like that.

[She can tell what he's trying to do, though, and it might be best to assuage his fears a bit. He's probably new.]

You don't have to be cryptic about your connections, though. We're all pretty much on the same side.

[ Clint recognizes Sam's voice as soon as the audio starts, although if he hadn't he might have been able to guess on who he was talking about- but only because he knows them, props on the cryptic. He opens up his own audio feed to reply, a smile is pretty evident in his voice. ]

I want you to know I have never actually been a bird. Also, 'likes birds'? Really? Is that how people describe me?

Y'might get better results if you tried using actual names.

[ Joel's not really one for word games, sorry Sam. ]

[Of course he can tell the man is being cryptic, but he rather just confront the fact with frankness.]

Wanda's accent sounds stronger than what Sam might be used to -- she hasn't had that year living in the US to work on speaking English with more of an American accent.]

Sam? Hi, I'm here. Though I should warn you that I might not remember as much as you do from home. [It seems that she is behind the rest of the Avengers.] But I do remember you. Obviously.

I'd guess she has a couple names. Natasha's the one I'm thinking of.

Shit yeah, I know all of them! Th-They're all hanging out at this sweet party with the One-Armed Man, Laura Palmer, this one f-floating white orb that kidnaps people, a rabbit named Harvey, and a really rare Pepe.

[ ooh, private. color jane intrigued. she refrains from laughing (because she's still not quite sure sam is ok in the head) but her tone is growing more amused by the minute: ]

It's difficult to say. I do know of a talking bird that likes to hang around the library if that helps? [ pointedly: ] I'm Jane, by the way.

[ It's like they're going through another cycle, in and out, removing memories to replace them with new ones that will be taken all over again. Steve may be tired of the pattern, but he's still relieved to see (or hear, in this case) Sam. First Natasha, now Sam, maybe that means Tony will be cycling back in again soon too.

The code sounds silly even to him, but Steve and Sam are not exactly trained for spy work. He can just picture Natasha rolling her eyes at it. ]

You know, it'd be a little easier to be on your left if I knew where you were.

[ Steve would have just tracked Sam down if he'd used the video function. Way to ruin his fun, Wilson. ]

Not exactly the most subtle attempt at stealth there, for the record.

[Hi Sam, did you want a critique? Rip doesn't mind, really. Especially since he does know someone who meets one of those descriptions.

[ well that answers more than it doesn't. she pretends it doesn't sink in bone deep that she's on the other side. that she knows his priorities, and she's off the list. that happens when battle lines are drawn. a fact of life.
