[ it's been a strange few days since the end of the hogwarts experience and tali has been uncharacteristically keeping to herself, quiet when she usually isn't. working on projects, she might insist, or just catching up on sleep. she is tinkering and sleeping more than anything else, but only because she has a lot on her mind and bringing it up unprompted is difficult. eventually, she goes to the network: ]

I knew that Wonderland could alter memories or abilities, but I didn't think that changing who you are entirely as a physical person was possible. Goes to show how much I know about this place, I guess. Or how little Wonderland expected me to be able to fit in as an alien witch. Who knows. It might have been fun.

I'm curious now: what is the strangest thing that's happened to you during one of Wonderland's little fits of reality bending? Tell me your best stories.

Oh and if anyone made friends with a Ravenclaw whose face isn't familiar now, it might have been mine. Let me know.

[The feed opens up with a low chuckle, revealing a man wearing a strange frog shaped mask. He seems remarkably calm for someone who wound up in another world, but hey. Day in the life of an NPC.]

Ah ah ah. Being ahead of the protagonist is par for the course for me, but another world is quite a difference. Perhaps a little to far down the rabbit hole, dear Puppeteer.

[Nobody answers Zacharie's question but he doesn't seem put off by it. In fact, for those who are observant, he's completely alone. Talking to himself, maybe?]

But nevertheless I will keep the introductions short and instead offer my services. More action and less questions, after all. I'm Zacharie, the traditional item merchant in every video game. I sell quite a number of useful items so feel free to browse and I will be happy to explain anything you need.

[And judging by his list an explanation or two are probably necessary!]

[Amanda should be in shock. And she probably is. But she's running on autopilot, so to speak. She has the vague memory of what happened, or was going to happen, and she doesn't want to think on it. What she and Nick had been going to do if--

So, she's not. She's not thinking about feelings. She's going into scientist mode. Which means asking questions about everything except herself.

When she appears on the feed, the fingers of the hand not holding her device are notably curled in slightly and fidgeting a little, like she's not sure what to do with them. Which she's not. She looks a little dazed, but she's smiling nervously]

Ah. Hello...I'm... not really sure who I'm addressing, I'm sorry. [she laughs a little, biting her lip for just a moment before continuing] My name is Dr. Amanda Perry. I'm from Earth, which I'm going to hazard isn't where I am now. If anyone could tell me...[she hesitates; she should ask how she got here, but she's afraid she won't like the answer, given her last memory] where here is, exactly, I would appreciate it.

Also, if there's anyone from Destiny here--[another noticeable pause. Does she ask for Nick specifically? No. Not yet] I'm all right. I'm...me. Which you can see, obviously, but…[she cuts herself off, because this could get depressing fast if she goes into details about that]

Anyway, ah...I'll appreciate any information anyone can give me. Thank you.

[The feed comes on to Shepard already moving, angled from the bottom-left up: absolutely on her omni-tool. She's not suited up in her armor, but the top of her sniper rifle can be seen in frame as being slung over her back.

And man, she looks pissed.]

Hey. I get we've got a lot of new people and this really might be jarring for some of you, but who the fuck is going around shooting people in the back?

[She addresses the camera directly and yeah, wow, she's definitely on the war path.]

It's not every day you find your friend's body on the ground from a bullet wound, and I'm a soldier. Somebody better come clean, or I'm gonna find out who it was, and trust me, you're gonna be happier if you just tell me and we have some time to talk. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to take this into my own hands.

[And she looks like she means serious business.]

If anyone knows who Legion was with today, I could use help narrowing it down. And I hope we're damn clear.

[And she cuts the feed.]

[ He's had his time to realize that this is wrong, that it's not where he should be. He's had his time to wonder how the hell he got here without his lion. He's had his time to panic. He's also had the time to read the pamphlet that was laying mysteriously next to him, along with a communication device.

By the time Shiro decides to broadcast a message, he knows the basics of Wonderland. And honestly, he's not as concerned about any of it as much as he is about his team, his friends, and where they all may have wound up after... the whole mess that happened. Even the pain in his side, the open wounds and the tear in his armour are near the last things on his mind. He doesn't matter right now. The others do.

When the video feed flicks on, he looks calm. His expression is carefully set but for the ever so slight hint of worry contained in his eyebrows. ]

This place looks so much like Earth... A well-kept garden, an actual house, so many other humans... I never thought I'd see anything like this again.

[ Almost makes him nostalgic, to a time that feels like so long ago but in reality is maybe only two years in the past.

No, get back on topic. Shiro shakes his head and focuses on the camera more intently. ]

I have an idea of where I am now. Some kind of other dimension, or something, right? Maybe I should find that weird, but it takes a lot more than this to really shock me these days. I'm not looking for information about "Wonderland". While I won't turn away anything people might have to offer, I have more important questions to ask here.

[ His expression is something almost stern--not unfriendly, per se, but... focused. Determined. ]

My team and I were split up just before I arrived here. It's unlikely, but maybe some of them ended up here like I have. If you've seen anyone with armour identical for mine except for the colour, please let me know. I need to make sure they're okay. And--uh. This might sound... odd, but has anyone seen a robot lion? It'd be bigger than this house, so I'm guessing not, but...

[ Trailing off, a flicker of an emotion that might be distress crosses his face, though it's gone in an instant. ]

Let me know. Thanks.

[ Audio clicks on to the shuffle of papers and a considering hum before Rafe speaks. His voice is mild. Sincere. Level in the way one can only sound when one is way too used to having things work out the way he wants them to, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs. ]

Well. Isn't this interesting.

[ When some people say interesting, you can tell they mean something entirely different. A professor reading over a test that clearly hadn't been studied for as he reaches for a red pen; a girl at a bar at the hearing how you just never have enough time to work on your novel; a cop flipping over your registration to find it's expired. It's one of those catch-all words but when Rafe says it? Nah. He just means interesting. ]

I always appreciate being prepared, and gotta say. This pamphlet? Good stuff, clean design, very to the point. Credit where it's due.

[ Arriving like a babe in the woods isn't really Rafe's scene. After all, a wide variety of factors have suddenly been yanked out of his control; the few he has remaining to him become all the more important to take advantage of. So although he's still learning the lay of the land, he's doing so after availing himself of a room, a shower, a fresh shirt, and this handy dandy pamphlet. ]

Although... You know, not to brag or anything but I'm a guy with a couple of talents. Architecture, for one. Anybody else checking this place out? I mean, here I am walking around those gardens and one minute I'm thinking 18th-century French, fantastically preserved, then there's some Gothic elements peeking round a corner— Jesus! Lloyd Wright, right there. [ You'd think the guy was watching a match at Wimbledon, and politely un-invested in who the winner turns out to be. ] Phenomenal fenestration, when it decides to stick to something longer than a minute. I suppose I'll have to get up higher for some bearings on this whole thing. Might even be a little fun with the right equipment.

[When the video turns on, it seems pre-preemptive and not from the usual angle Shepard's seen at- instead of being on her arm, it's actually projecting directly from the device, streaming sideways from her nightstand. Shepard can be seen coming in and out of frame, seeming to be putting a few things in a duffel bag. It looks like she could be cleaning, if her hands weren't shaking and she wasn't muttering to herself something that's not being picked up on the recording. It doesn't take her long to notice the device is on, and rolls her eyes as she picks it up, addressing the network but still looking more serious than her usual playful demeanor shows off.]

Sorry about that. Damn thing isn't working right. Though, good timing, because I was gonna ask something anyway.

[She shifts, trying to look more nonchalant. It doesn't come off perfectly to anyone who's paying attention.]

Anyone know any good places to relax in this place? Still a little messed up from that last event. Wonderland really knows how to throw us for a loop. Looking to chill for a bit. Let me know. Might not check this thing a lot in the next couple days to try and get my mind off things.

[She will, of course, be ignoring all suggestions, because what's really happening here is a thinly veiled panic attack, and she'll be running off to her battle tank. Aside from responding to the main prompt, anyone who might know where she is can feel free to find her holed up in the Mako. It'll either be parked behind the Greenhouse, or, on one occasion, driven down to the beach so Shepard can sit on top, looking out to the ocean.

She's fine. Really!]

(The journal begins to record, obviously without its new owner's intention.

A Geth in a garden is probably a disconcerting sight. It's disconcerting for them too, albeit for an entirely different reason. They had not expected to encounter a garden, or anything else, ever again.

Legion begins to look around. It doesn't take them long to find the journal, and the residents of the mansion will get a good look at their flashlight face when they pick it up and stare quizzically at it for several moments. Upon realizing that it is recording, the flaps of plastic wrapped around their head flare out in an expression of surprise, and they click off the feed.

A moment later, they send a text.)

Local flora matches that of the Human planet Earth.

Oh wicked, this place even comes with a comm system!

[ Look who's fresh out of the mysterious gateway portals and figuring out the method to best meet everyone all at once, eh? One very energetic Overwatch agent at your service, entirely too excited to be staring into a camera lens at the world at large. ]

Right then, hellooo Wonderland! Tracer here! [ Her first two fingers touch her temple, a jaunty little salute punctuated with a giggle. ] This is brilliant, isn't it? Out of all the pickles I've found meself in or travels I've been on, I don't think I've ever seen a place like this!

[ So many oddities! Mysterious self-populating dinner plates, closets that spit out whatever's your fancy, creepy masked fellas with odds and ends for sale. She's loving it and it is very apparent on screen, this slight woman practically vibrating to get into some trouble. ]

So what's all there to do then? Baddies to fight? Spooky caverns to spelunk? Pub runs?

As long as it's an adventure, I'm there!

[ it's been a disorienting arrival, but that's probably par for the course. more important than where she was or how she got there, tali had to make sure that waking up surrounded by flowers and bushes and other generally questionable garden things hadn't caused any sort of issues with her suit. dying of pollen on an alien world seemed like a pretty shitty way to go, after all.

she's not sick, but tali does sound a little annoyed when she finally reaches out to the network. ]

Assuming this isn't just the weirdest fever dream ever, I have... some questions. This is a human colony, right? But where? Does everyone wake up in a flower bed or did whoever was dumping bodies just think that would be funny? It wasn't funny, for the record. But I think I need a crash course in just what exactly's going on here and some reassurance that I'm not delirious or drank something terrible by accident.

And - [ a pause, slightly pained. ] - please tell me I'm not the only alien here.
