+ Fools! You think you can stop Halloween? +
Hello everyone, and welcome to Part 2 of our Halloween event!
So you have probably seen the Queen of Hearts' post and heard her screaming and ranting and demanding the return of her Mirrors. Just where are her Mirrors though?
Well, allow me to backtrack. When we last left our...villains(?), they had vanished in a flash of white light when the roots plaguing Mirror Side broke into the Core of the mansion. That break-in has triggered a character event and now, those roots have taken a turn for the worse. They've completely shattered through the glass and broken over to the Real Side of the mansion, and they're still not done growing.
However, by Saturday, October 26th, the roots will have become more violent in nature. They will start attempting to attack the Real Things, trying to slice and burrow into them. The roots will be easy enough to fight off – the Reals can easily tug themselves away or tear off the roots, and at first it will seem more like an inconvenience than anything else. As soon as that connection is broken though, the victim will go still for a moment. Their mind will blank for a few seconds, and it will feel a little like blacking out.
And when they come back to themselves? They'll find that they're not alone in their bodies anymore.
You see, all of the Mirrors have been absorbed into the root with the rest of the magic from their side of the glass, and that one brief connection was enough for whatever sort of a soul they have to become trapped in their corresponding Real Thing's body. In other words, when someone is attacked by the roots, they will be forced to share a body with their Mirror. The roots have taken it upon themselves to carry out this character event by force. Characters who have been hit by this will be identifyable by whatever wound the root left behind.
This will turn out differently for diffferent characters, depending on what they and their Mirrors are like. In all cases, at least one of them will be in control at any given time. Whoever isn't in control will be able to watch what is happening as if it were a movie and retain all memories of it. Think of it as two drivers fighting for control of the steering wheel – if they're both tugging at the wheel, the car is going to go all over the place and swerve its way down the road. In this case, if they cannot get along, the body itself might jerk around and struggle between them.
Some Mirrors might be content to share and just glad that they're not dead. Some of them might try to claim these “new” bodies for themselves in an act of self-preservation and a desire to be Real. Others might just borrow the bodies from time-to-time while they try and figure out how to get a body of their own again. And still others might just keep to themselves, save for the occasional unpleasant whisper to their Real Thing. There might even be some Real Things mentally strong enough to keep their Mirrors from totally taking over.
For all intents and purposes, when a Mirror is in charge they will have the abilities of the Real Characters. So if you're a demon and your Mirror isn't and you get attacked, your Mirror now has access to all your crazy demon powers! And the Mirrors will not be able to be banished by looking at their reflection, entirely because it's not actually their reflection – it belongs to their Real. All of the mirrors on the walls are going to be over flowing with roots, but if there were any unbroken mirrors (which there are not at this point) the Mirrors would not be able to cross. They can only do whatever the Real body can – if the Real Thing is an average person but the Mirror is a super psychic who can use telekenesis to throw everyone around, they will not be able to use those powers for this event. And naturally, if they both have the same abilities or powers, then they will both be able to use them. Mirror Traitors will have closet access if they are in their Real's body.
If you don't have a Mirror? Don't worry! Not everyone has to get attacked by the roots – you can easily say that your character wasn't and then just have them deal with the craziness of their friends not being exactly who they're supposed to be. There should be enough chaos going on that characters who don't have an official Mirror yet should still have plenty they can do.
This is all going to get very confusing very fast, so please either use your Mirror journals when a Mirror is in charge or, if you don't have a journal for your Mirror make it clear in some other way who is who. Also, tag your posts and replies to other people's posts. If both your character's Mirror and Real make significant appearances (like swapping back and forth or other personality shifts), use the tags for both of them.
The roots are going to be atttacking people from Saturday, October 26th until the end of the event - Saturday, November 2nd, so feel free to spread attacks out over the course of the event. Also, as the event goes on, the grass will begin to turn gray and the grayness will bleed into the trees and other plants from the ground up, and they will very quickly become overgrown. Only the plants will turn gray, huge, and wild though; everything else outside will remain as it always was. Though you'll hear more from the plants soon. ♥
EDIT: I nearly forgot an important note! It can probably be figured out through logic, but yes deaths count towards the death toll, and they count for the Real Character, even if the Mirror is in control - since ultimately, it's the Real Thing's body you're killing.
There will be a FAQ thread in this post, and you're free to use this post for all of your body-sharing plot needs. The rest of the updates to this event are going to come from NPC posts so keep an eye out for those, and we'll see you at the end of the event!
