[He can't do anything but give a soft noise that doesn't quite make a laugh, barely more than a puff of air through his nose that's only half-tilted toward anything like mirth. Leave it to him to make it half-a-joke, while still not being one at all. Kol appreciates it, anyway.

Though, apparently, his brother is set on trying to make his chest nothing more than a vice tonight, because he keeps saying things that matter more than Kol knows how to even put to words.

And yet.
Some small part of him still manages to wonder-- is it true? Really, truly true. Or is it the right thing to say at the time, to get under his skin and manipulate him. That is a game their family all play so well, after all.

But that part of him that is more 'little boy longing for big brother's approval' than anything else is running this show. Taking up all the space in his head and heart, in ways he rarely if ever lets it do. And that part is what presses his words forward, soft and reverent.]
