[Oh, it most definitely sounds familiar. Martha recalls all of the times that the Doctor marveled over humanity, remarking that each and every human on Earth was special and important in their own way. And the amazing thing about it was that it had really felt as if he meant it, each time. It's the sort of thing that had truly drawn Martha to him, even though those feelings have petered out by now.

Still, she's not all that surprised to see that America has the same feelings about it. As a country, his whole existence revolves around the existence of people and the actions they take, or so she would think. And while sometimes people are horrible and wage wars, other times they truly are amazing.

The way he talks about "free black folk" seems both condescending and offensive, but Martha knows he likely doesn't mean it that way, so she attempts to temper her reaction.]

... For one thing, slavery is almost completely abolished on Earth these days, so you wouldn't be saying anything remotely like that if you were from modern times. [She hopes not, anyway.] But... as for my life, I grew up in London. I have an older sister and a younger brother, and I decided from a young age that I wanted to be a doctor. I was in the middle of medical school when my life took a mad turn. [Not a bad one, but there's no denying that it was mad.]
