[Giles steps back reflexively as Toothless chatters, bringing his arms up in an instinctive attempt to defend himself. Then his mind catches up, and he relaxes just a bit, taking another searching look at the dragon.
...is that sound a good thing? It certainly didn't sound threatening. It wasn't a roar. The dragon wasn't giving off any recognizable signs of imminent attack.
But maybe this sort of dragon had different indications or body language cues. All the same, Giles knows that he probably shouldn't risk antagonizing it if it isn't doing the same. He lowers his arms, and even leans forward a bit, as curiosity edges out fear.]
