[ ray isn't sure he's heard mick say so many words in one sitting before, but that's not what keeps his mouth shut. he speaks pure acceptance-- there's no quid pro quo involved, no proselytizing about what's better. this is the world he lives in, and ray can with see it that way or... well, they'll still be friends. they'll just not agree.
that's what ray hears, anyway. and between those words is the idea that maybe he's doing the thing he feels other people do to him. it's only a survival tactic, yelling about what you think is right louder than other people do. maybe he should try it mick's way. not like before, not in an attempt to fill shoes. but maybe to find a pair that fits better. ]
Outsiders. [ he chews on the word for a moment, frowning at the way he instinctually bucks it. most of his life, that had never been an acceptable route for him. it's a small sliver of light now-- not something he thinks he can jump into, but. would his life had been better if he'd been able to follow the path of an outsider? ray nods, a decision made.
then he grins that warning grin-- not the mask of a man forcing his light against the shadows, but of honest excitement. ]
