01 ( video + action )
( It's the second day of the event when Peggy's face appears on the network. She's been thinking about her 'mission' since receiving it. She hadn't had the opportunity to act on it the day before, preoccupied with aiding Steve on his but now that they were back, that she'd rested, she was able to do something about it. Now that she'd had time to think about it.
She's outside when the video comes across, inside the compound still but out in an open space. Peggy didn't have a lot with her but that was one thing that she could also address on the video - the level of supplies there )
I regret that this isn't the most opportune moment for introductions- ( She's been there a few weeks and hasn't yet 'introduced' herself as she's seen other people do. There's been a lot of other things clouding her head - people that shouldn't be possible, situations that she has no idea how to handle and knowing that she's been there before. Her introduction probably would have consisted of telling people that she's sorry she doesn't remember them, but alas ) -but I'd like to handle the more pressing concerns.
My name is Peggy Carter and I'd like to offer my help in ensuring that people stay safe here. ( Although she's missing the warning labels that come with zombies. She does at least turn the video around to film her surroundings - she doesn't know how better to describe where she's set up ) I'll be here for anyone who is interested.
I would like to ask about the state of affairs here. Supplies, defences, if anyone is more informed about that. Thank you.
( ooc; Peggy will be doing some basic hand to hand, how to make a decent meal from scraps/campfire cooking and maybe gun technique but that's on a case by case thing )

Wouldn't have thought of that. [ by way of introduction, since faith doesn't really have time or skill for simply saying hello. she gestures toward the examples peggy had been showing a few people before they'd run off to make use of her rationing lessons. ] You from this world?
no subject
No, but a situation with some familiarity.
( She'd not expected to be thrown from a war into the end of the world, but some things seemed to go across and help with her. Really before arriving in Wonderland she'd just been hoping to make it through. Then everything happened to change )
Did you see enough? I could demonstrate it again.
no subject
Sure, couldn't hurt. Can I? [ she gestures toward a space where she might sit and chill while peggy goes over the info. she's not wholly unfamiliar with being depowered but any level of preparation she can get a hold of can only help. ] I'm Faith, by the way.
no subject
Peggy. ( For a few moments there's silence as Peggy goes over the rationing, the odd comment or direction given when she needs to explain something. It doesn't take long to go over the first thing - that thing being what Faith had walked across as Peggy had finished demonstrating for the last group ) Would I be right at guessing that this is all unfamiliar to you?
( Not just the zombies but also rationing, and thus the life of surviving as such. The life familiar to Peggy )
no subject
I'm more of a popcorn and Ramen girl. Give me a microwave and I can hand you a decent dollar pizza but basic stuff's not exactly something I ever had to worry about.
[ she shrugs, and adds: ] Surviving like this is different from hunting and fighting just to kill stuff.
no subject
I may have to ask you to show me that when we're done. Microwaves. ( Peggy adds the clarification to not let it be confused with hunting and fighting. She hasn't hunted but she's fought often, all for survival - not just to kill stuff. It isn't a lifestyle that Peggy could imagine, wanting to do it for any reason than necessity. But she knew that many did already - those that started street brawls just because they could )
This place, as different as it is- ( She'd mentioned that her home wasn't like this and she's glad. As sad as it is for their dead to stay dead she wouldn't wish them to walk again like this ) is certainly more familiar than having anything I desire at a thought. ( A few years can quickly change how you act, and even before then the idea that Wonderland gave them was far different from normal ) It's an odd concept. Though I am thankful we don't always have to survive.
no subject
So by familiar you meant... [ insert vague hand waggle at peggy's lesson supplies. ] This stuff's kinda what you do back home. Well, at least you get to use your skills. I'm flapping in the wind over here. Zombies aren't exactly the kind of monster I'm used to.
no subject
( Although there were few, if any, of those things which were actually great. Whilst knowing how to survive did help Peggy knows that her life would have been very different if it hadn't been something she'd learned - although she had also chosen military life before the war began )
It also gives us very familiar monsters. ( At least in terms of people. Enemies rather than monsters, although HYDRA's ideas were certainly pushing the more horrific side than just commanders in a war
BUT none of that was exactly a very pleasant topic. Don't mind the side-stepping, although if she is given any questions about what she gave away Peggy would answer them )
Hopefully by the end of this you won't be 'flapping in the wind', as it were.
( And to make a point she continues up with the demonstration, showing something more )

[ her only brush with war was marching a bunch of girls to die so that the people who had more experience could have time to figure out a real gameplan. faith is no soldier but she had been a single piece in a larger machine. and she'd always been front and center, right in the middle of the fray. though she doesn't talk about it much, watching other girls almost senselessly die hadn't been her favorite pastime.
she almost apologizes again, for what had probably sounded like her jealousy at feeling useless. but it seems like anything worth having is gotten the hard way, so she keeps the apology to herself. ]
But I guess this all makes more sense now.
no subject
My only hope for it is that it helps. For however long we may be here we must survive.
( Peggy didn't want to think about how many may have been unprepared - about what could happen if they were unable to survive. Her trek out with Steve and Bucky had gotten them a few more supplies but mot enough for the long haul. They'd have to ration carefully and go again, take risks that no one should )
At least people are willing to try. ( Like this girl here. Things that she'd alluded to made Peggy believe that she knew about surviving, but others had taken her offer for help up too ) No one seems to want to die.
( Thank god. Listening to experience when you had none could be difficult - you wanted to believe yoh would be okay. At least not everyone was foolish )
no subject
[ such the optimist. but faith really is boggled. usually you get conflicting cultures together and it's problem enough. throw confusion and kidnapping on top of that and anyone would predict mass hysteria. instead, everyone seems relatively cohesive so far.
which probably means faith just hasn't dug deep enough into the social structure of the mansion yet. ]
no subject
( Bringing people together, whether it was different worlds or just different groups of people often did have the chance to go wrong. No one had yet died that she was aware of. It was still early but maybe that hope would see them through - maybe they would be able to band together until it was over and stay alive )
The more people we have that can help - those with experience- ( And here Peggy looks at the girl. For whatever her experience is she knows how to survive, and fight. Whilst Peggy may be helping people with rationing - making their supplies last this girl may be able to help in another way. Defensive ways ) -means we may be able to see this through. We may yet live.
no subject
[ she smiles, though, shrugging. faith is still trying to figure out where she fits in the structure of the mansion. it's an odd enough place already but without all of the goals she'd been so focused on back home, faith is drifting a little. ]
The one-on-one seems like it's the way to go around here, though. And I gotta figure I'd never learn this stuff anywhere else.
no subject
( Like self defense for one. Or killing zombies here. For those that didn't come from this world - or similar ones - they'd need to learn how to do that. All of them would. Peggy hadn't known how best to until she'd been told, and then after she'd put it into practice )
And I hope that you wouldn't otherwise be in a situation where you'd have to learn this. From what I've already gathered of Wonderland it's different than having to survive.
( There was an almost unoimited supply of food, when you weren't thrown into things like this. The mansion was certainly different from here or a war. Or any survival )

[ a situation faith has landed herself in time and again (so long as you didn't question the definition of 'free'). so far she maintains her excess displeasure with wonderland stems from its ploy to provide them comfortable captivity.
she does realize the insensitivity of her statement; applied both to their current situation and whatever peggy herself has experienced. ]
Shit-- no offense, sorry.
no subject
( There's no offense taken at the girl's comment - there can't be when Peggy agrees herself. Things may be more dangerous or lacking at home but it is home, and there are things she must still do. Even if being here does give her other opportunities that she wouldn't otherwise have )
Free, at least.
( There's a small smile. No one wished to be starving, anyway )
no subject
Hard back home?
[ still, she continues fumbling with the examples, flipping a can around in her hands as she listens and thinks. ]
no subject
( The shortest, and how it didn't cover it at all. Hard? It was war - it had been hard for a long time, knowing the men, knowing ones that had died, strategising and fighting. And then losing Steve - to come here right at that moment. Hard didn't even break the surface of Peggy's feelings )
It makes me conflicted for certain things that I've discovered here.
no subject
[ it's true, faith's experiences make her biased to assume that peggy's must be in some way more personal. a smaller scale than war, though no less difficult. the effects of war are something faith is only vaguely versed in.
but even faith herself has been feeling the beginnings of a slow acquiescence to wonderland. in the midst of so many people wanting to take up the mantle of responsibility for the big issues, she can't help but feel a modicum of relief. and she's not sure how she feels about that. ]
no subject
There are some people here that I lost some time ago.
( Months for Bucky and just minutes for Steve, but enough to have the effect felt. And now both of them are here - alright and alive )
We're also not at war.
( She brings her gaze back up, trying to resolve her momentary conflict to focus on the important thing here )
no subject
[ not that it helps. not that any words would. even offering condolences or whatever is just a way to fill the silence, and faith doesn't much like patronizing people. one thing does seem worth saying though. it's a little clumsy, but faith has never been great at applying murder rehab tactics anyway. ]
Me, I just wind up feel guilty living it up here. When it's good, anyway. Not that it's what you've got back home, but.
no subject
Why do you feel guilty?
no subject
[ faith adjusts, leaning back as she decides to keep talking. ]
I got one friend who's-- hang on, do you know about demons and gods and all that crap?
no subject
( She's already travelled through time and met the love of her life after 70 years frozen in the ice. A super soldier. She has to suspend some belief whether she believes it or not )

[ faith tends to leave the explaining and the figuring out to the brain types. though lately she's had to stop relying wholly on resolving issues through punching... ]
video
[A fourteen-year-old appeared on the screen, shrouded in darkness that made her current location difficult to see but with her face fully illuminated by a flickering light of some kind.]
Supplies are minimal. Most of us have some basic weapons. Hopefully those of us that know how to actually use them. Defenses...aren't usually much good, considering this place seems to run on some sort of erratic magic.
Were you looking for anything specific?

( She was one of them )

[Fortunately, she was a teenaged girl. Who had slowly been learning "modern" habits from her modern friends. Which included hoarding junk food for inconvenient late-night hours. It wasn't much, but it was enough to keep her going for a few days.]
I have some. Not much.
I could guess there are others like me who manage to stash some before everything went bad.

[For once, however, she shook her head in response.]
We can't risk leaving anything out in the open. There's a chance whatever's after us will go after the supplies, too.
[It was a common tactic in battle. Weaken the enemy, leave them vulnerable.]
It's safer if we keep a number of stockpiles, hidden away.

[It was the several of them clause that ultimately changed her mind. A single source of resources was too big of a topic. Several of them, on the other hand, would give everybody options.]
They would have to be discreet.

[Paranoid? She didn't think so; this was experience talking; when the reason why demigods weren't allowed to use cell phones was literally because it meant the monsters could track them down, it stood to reason they would be overly cautious about communication methods.]
If you can figure out a good solution, I'd be happy to help in any way I can.
