►text. backdated to the evening of 5/12.
so i mentioned this to someone a little while ago, but superpowers can have some serious downsides. like the fact that i'm really durable? means i've never been drunk while also having my powers
but i've also never been in a magical pocket dimension that could provide liquor from all across the multiverse and i'm willing to bet that can change. what i'm looking for is drink recommendations--give me the strongest drinks you've got back home. no need to mention if they taste like lighter fluid or not
and since you're not supposed to drink alone, my door's open if anyone wants to join me. third floor, room 50. if you're a creep i reserve the right to kick your ass and then kick you out ♥

Where are you at? I've nicked some booze you might be interested in.

Ta-da.
[He produces two bottles from behind his back, throwing the fuller one at Kara, for her to catch.]
Rip's an annoying bastard, but he's got good taste in booze.
action
You stole Rip's booze?
[ the implications of 'rip's an annoying bastard' settle in as she looks at the label, and her grin turns a little smaller. ]
Thanks.
action
[He unscrews the bottle he's holding with two fingers and takes a sip, walking further into the room so he can sit down on the ground opposite her, leaning back against the wall.]
Don't know if that stuff's enough to give you a buzz, but it comes with the satisfaction of annoying him.
action
[ it's not that she's trying to be sentimental. but the thought of spending an evening with company she not only enjoys but doesn't make her feel like she needs to be 'on' all the time (like barry does. and kon. and a handful of other people.) is an even better distraction than she was thinking she could ask for. ]
This probably won't give me a hangover, after all.
action
[He just doesn't stop drinking. Although it has gotten a little less, gradually. One of these days he'll be sober again. Mick's resilient.]
You wanna talk or--?
action
I don't know. It-- [ there's a lot of mixed feelings there. a lot of things she's still sorting through. and while part of her desperately wants to talk about it, another part of her feels ashamed. ]
She wasn't awful when I was growing up. Strict. A little cold. But she was a scientist and that wasn't out of the norm. She was my mother and I loved her.
[ alura saw herself as completely logical. saw emotions as little more than brain chemistry that, while good at times, were also a thing to be controlled. the irony is that in the end, they controlled her. ]
I wanted her to be proud of me more than anything. Even after I knew she had people killed the first time. Even when I spent nights wishing it was her who had been murdered and not my father. I just... wanted my family back.
[ she gives a hollow laugh and scrubs at her eyes. she's not crying, not yet, but she is a little teary. ]
How fucked up is that?
action
My father, he was awful from the start. Got more awful. Eventually I even caught on and realised. But it took a lot longer that I stopped wanting to live up to his vision of me. And I've killed a lot of people. I ain't proud of that. But his is still the only kill that's ever kept me up with guilt.
[Which, intellectually, he thinks is pathetic. His father deserved much worse than he got. Much sooner.]
Parents mess you up in ways you can't escape.
action
she takes the bottle and raises it with a wry twist of her lips. ]
Here's to being fuck-ups. [ she drinks. ] Oh, Rip does have really good taste in alcohol. I'm impressed.
action
[Which, if nothing else, does make for great booze.]
action
[ she's not still annoyed with him, no way. why would anyone think that? ]
action
[He pulls a leg up and takes another sip from the bottle.]
action
[ which means she clearly mistook him for someone who isn't a dick. ]
And he's not that bad; I've met a lot worse. I just can't stand it when people act all patronizing like I can't make my own choices and be smart about them.
[ ... there may be more to this than her not liking what rip said. but there have been enough emotions for one night. kara takes another swig of her drink. ]
I took your advice, by the way, about trying to hang out with Mick?
action
[Not something Leonard particularly fancies. Too tall an order and also not very desirable.]
Don't take the patronising personally. That's not you. That's him.
[Punching him seems to work, but maybe a bit extreme a suggestion, given Kara's strength.]
Yeah? He tells me he likes you.
action
[ she noticeably perks up at the idea that mick's been talking about her favorably. ]
It was cool. I think we had a bonding moment.
action
[Which implies that to remember and actually say her name, he must like her.]
What did you do? Burn stuff?
action
Yeah. I dug a fire pit outside and gave him some accelerant from my home planet so he could light some stuff on fire. And then we talked. It was nice.
action
But you still like me best, yeah? [Taking this in the less expected direction.]
action
Sure, Len. You're my favorite.
action
[He smirks and pats himself down, discovering a pack of cards. Leonard shuffles them, eyes on her as he lifts his eyebrows.]
You feel like playing? What's your game?
action
[ she manages to keep a straight face as she says it, but it's pretty clear she's joking. ]
action
[Sorry, Kara, your being social is entirely too obvious.]
action
action
You're on.
[That said, he's already dealing the cards. What better thing to do to avoid talking about emotions too much?]
