[Souji's been feeling reflective lately, thinking over some things. It's elicited a question that he himself isn't sure he can answer. He wants to find out if others can, so, after some deliberation about whether or not it's a good idea, he takes to the network to ask.]

If you were able to change something in your life at home, what would it be?

[He's not sure he'll even get any answers. It's kind of a personal question. But he's hoping that some people will respond, if only to help him think through things himself.]

My family was in a spot of trouble and I thought I could fix it on my own. From what I hear, it was a major fuck up on my part.

Got it in one, kemosabe. Everyone I know from back home has ten years on me. Apparently I disappeared completely. Never came back.

No one knows what the fuck happened.

Is it hard not knowing what will happen to you?

[He guesses no one really knows, but it's different when someone from the future tells you that you just never came back.]

Honestly? It's doesn't feel real most of the time. Like, I know they're not fuckin' lying to me, but it's hard to believe I really just poofed out of existence completely, y'know?

[They hadn't found her body or her wandering spirit even after ten years of looking. It's like she was sucked up into some black hole or something. It's concerning.]

'Sides that, I guess it is. Be nice to get some good future info for once, but it's whatevs. We're all trapped here now, so maybe I should be grateful for the extra time I get.

There are a few people here who feel that way. They either have no future at home or it's too uncertain to be promising.

[Anytime one of those people leaves, he can't help feeling like he's in mourning somehow.]

[Lup, at least, has the hope that she can go home and maybe fix things. She wasn't just dropped in here dead or near dying. She at least has a chance. But those other...]

I've heard of a few folks who pop in here post kickin' the bucket. Does that happen often? Does anyone know why?

I don't know how often it happens or why. I think more living people come here than dead.

[Of all the people he's known there, only a handful were dead at home at the point at which they arrived. The majority were quite alive where they came from.]

But the fact that it happens at all is good for the people who are dead at home, even if there are bad things about this place.

I guess you're not wrong. Get an extra go at life, even if it's without any clue of how long you'll really get. But the alternative is pretty final.

Kind of. I just got a reminder of something I haven't thought about in a while.

[He doesn't want to volunteer too much, just because of the consequences it might have for someone else. But if he were asked for more, he'd try to give it.]

I get that. Kinda going through that shit myself. Person isn't bad, just... She just did a few questionable things. Kinda fucked up stuff for our friends.

But they don't know that yet.

After. Everyone I know here is like ten years ahead of me. All this stuff happened in their timeline, but not mine. Not yet.

[Sometimes Lup forgets when her mun is really slow at tagging. oops]

It's complicated. The folks ahead of me got their memories gobbled up by a fish. All but one of 'em. She let me in on the deets of everything that happened between our time periods, but the others are totes clueless. We can't even begin to explain it, since the spell that fucked with their memories made it so trying to talk about anything related to them just makes 'em hear static.

Is there any way to counteract the spell?

Yeah, but it's pretty... gross. You've gotta slam down a big drink of the water it lives in. It's like, juices, I guess.

Problem is, old Fisher just ain't here, so gettin' his bath water doesn't seem very possible.

So you just have to deal with them not remembering.

Yeah, it bites, but at least they kinda get they're missing something and I'm a part of that. So we've been hanging, building those relationships up. It's not even close to what it was, but I dunno if I can complain. It's better than it was.
