[Kayo isn't someone who posts to the network often. She isn't very talkative, and she uses her words sparingly - certainly not the type of person to send a message if she doesn't have something to say, or something to ask.

On her arm, she's wearing the kinetic shield that Rick made for her - pink with kitten stickers, as promised. She's been trying to get used to the feel of it on her arm, the weight of it. Another person had offered to teach her how to make traps and defend herself that way, but they've since gone home.

So, it's time to ask around. The war isn't very far away.]

What is the best way to protect yourself?

I'm personally a big fan of guns for that, but it's really better if you know how to use them. ...Which is pretty much the case with every weapon. You're more likely to hurt yourself than protect yourself if you don't know what you're doing.

[ Not that Jane is pro any of that. But she knows it can be done. She knows kids are more capable than adults want to give them credit for. She was kidnapped at 5 and a child soldier by 13. She can teach this to Kayo with the difference being she won't be anyone's brainwashed puppet. ]

I can teach you how to shoot a gun, and I can teach you how to protect yourself without it.

I don't have magic. I don't have weapons either, except my shield. I...guess that leaves my brain?

[She sounds unsure if her brain will help much if she doesn't already know how to defend herself. But while she can't give herself magic, everything else is something she can work on if she needs to.]

[Satoru nods. He might as well admit it. If something happens, there really isn't much he can do. He's got no powers or anything of the sort, and he's not even an adult (though even if he were an adult, he'd be totally unable to contribute). The most he can do is hide in small places.]

Learning how to fight back helps. I like my big shiny gun, personally, but self defense can go a long way. So can cleverness and resourcefulness, it helps to be willing to improvise.

...I want to be able to keep someone safe. He saved me, and I want to be able to save him if he needs it. I don't know how to defend myself or anyone else though, or where to start learning how. I don't have any weapons either, but someone made me this shield.

[She waves her arm a couple of times (inelegantly - her form is still not great) and the pink metal thing on her arm activates into a full shield that seems to be made of some kind of force field.]

I don't want to just depend on this though. In an event, I might not have it.
