Hey everyone! My name's Steven. Steven Universe! And I figured it was about time I did another one of these open message thingies. Since... it's been about a year since I got here. [He places a hand on his head and smiles meekly.] Time really flies, huh?

So I think we can all stand to get to know each other better and become friends and stuff! Plus Alice gave me an idea earlier this month... talking about people we miss from home. I know it can be tough stuff, but I think it'll really help to keep our memories of them clear! So let me get this ball rolling by talking about Lion! [With that, he holds up a drawing of a big pink lion.] I guess he's the mane event? ...That's right! Back home, I have a pet lion. He can be kinda difficult sometimes... a lot of the time... but he really loves me! He has special powers and a pocket dimension in his mane, too. [A beat.] I should probably also mention that I have powers too, 'cause I'm part-gem!

Well, he was a bear. Or an empty bear suit. But then he manifested a human body, so now I guess he's more human than bear.

Oooh! That's... kinda weird, but in a cool way! Does your beary good friend have a name?

[eatsyourscience]

His name is Teddie. And also likes making bear puns.

[jamminshield]

I love him already! [Steven chimes excitedly.] I'd join his fan cub in a heartbeat!

He'd like that beary much.

Really? I'm glad it wouldn't be polar-izing!

I think that one was reaching a little.

Yeah, it was. Sometimes you just don't know how a pun will work until you say it out loud! That's part of the way of punniness.

That makes sense. I have a lot to learn about it, I guess.

[jamminshield]

It's okay. There's a lot more to wordplay than meets the eye! It's like an art!

[He nods solemnly.]

So you have a lion. Where'd it come from?

[jamminshield]

Oh! Well, I met him in the desert while I was there with the Crystal Gems on a mission, and he pretty much followed me home! It looks like he used to be my mom's? But I don't know many details about that.

[eatsyourscience]

Are you a gem too?

[He feels like he should know this.]

[jamminshield]

Yep! Well, I'm half-gem. My dad's a human, a-and my mom was Rose Quartz. [He keeps a smile on, and he tugs his shirt up just enough to show the gem he has in place of a belly button.]

What can you do? I only know a little about gems, so I'm not really sure what kind of powers they have.

[jamminshield]

Oh, I've got a whole bunch! [He says with a meek chuckle.] I can do things that other gems can do like shape shift, float in the air, aaand I guess I'm pretty strong? Then there's others that I think are a little more special... like my healing spit, my shield, my bubble, my spit can also bring plants to life, and sometimes I enter people's minds when I sleep?

[eatsyourscience]

That's pretty cool. Healing spit sounds like it would be kind of awkward, though.

[Like...do you spit on people? Lick them? What's the story here?]

[jamminshield]

[A nervous chuckle.]

It can be pretty awkward to get people to understand it! But it can still heal up almost anything really good! ...I kinda have healing tears too, but... they only work at special times.

[eatsyourscience]

What kind of special times?

[jamminshield]

[He hesitates, before he answers softly.]

Only when... when nothing else can help. When it should be too late.

[eatsyourscience]

Mm...it's good you have that kind of power.

[Souji can heal, but he can't bring people back.]

You're pretty indispensable.

[jamminshield]

Th-thanks. I try to be! [He says with a humble nod.] But I'm sure you can do plenty of great things too!

A few things. I can heal, too.

[Not with his spit, though.]

You can? Ooh, we can be healing buddies! Is it magic? Or is it like... you're a super smart young surgeon and you work so fast that it just looks like it's healing?!
