+ It Is Foolish to Look Back With Regret +

As the the Gryphon announced yesterday, there is a new event this week! More information can be found on the bulletin board.

Please use this post for plotting and keep in mind not everyone has a plurk for such purposes. The usual Q&A thread will be available for questions.

EDIT: There will be a gathering/mingle post for this event!

Just to clarify, does this 'removed regret' have a knock-on effect to everything they might have done because of said regret?

For instance, Dan's regret of accidentally destroying an entire settlement was a big driver in why he tried so hard during his (head)canon story in Fallout: New Vegas. Without that, he could have gone in an entirely different direction.

Just to clarify, re: the example with Fitz's parents. These regrets can extend to other people's actions, correct? For example, I'm leaning towards Juliet's regret being that her dad was a criminal and not an active part of her life which had a huge impact on who she became. So her AU can be that her dad wasn't a con man and thing change from there?

Awesome! Thank you.

So, is this limited to one regret, or can we retcon as many regrets as we like? Because Dorian is full of Regrets.

Soos and Eleanor

[personal profile] howsitgoindude 2019-01-09 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Soos's regret is easy: he regrets not having his parents around growing up. Particularly his dad, and given the "one regret" rule I'll lean towards that. This Soos grew up with his dad rather than his abuelita and therefore...I think he didn't grow up in Gravity Falls at all. When his dad moved away, Soos went with, and so he grew up in...let's say southern California. His dad remarried a rich woman and had kids with her, and Soos very quickly got scooted out of the limelight in favor of the "real" family. This Soos has a lot of the same interests, but thanks to his family situation, he's quieter and shyer. He's also a little more fit, thanks to his dad pushing him into sports, but he's not into them and only does well thanks to being a bigger dude. He's also much more conscious of looking too childish, so he tries harder to be serious. Ultimately, he's been forced away from being himself for so long that he's not very happy and was, at the point he came to Wonderland, about to flunk out of college and lose the small scholarship he got for football. Being Wonderland is slightly better, if only because the pressure to be an adult is less, but he's still struggling to figure out how that works.

Eleanor is a tougher one. I've already done something like this in a previous event, and canon has too. In the period of time Eleanor remembers post-death, I think the only thing she might really regret is not talking to Chidi sooner when she found out about their previous romantic relationship in another iteration. If they had worked that out sooner, maybe she would have gotten to spend more time with Chidi romantically before getting to Wonderland, and now Wonderland is RUINING THAT. So she's probably just really annoyed and, lbr, horny. Like, dude. He's CUT under those glasses. Fuck this place. >B(

Ange's regret is not having been able to stop her family from going to the family conference where they all died when she was little. So as an AU version of herself she will have stopped them somehow, and therefore she will just have grown up with her family in a normal way instead of going through way too much traumatic stuff.

Which means Ange will be.. well, actually normal for this event. Normal by regular teenage girl standards, anyway. She'll actually smile and know how to (more or less) properly express emotions.

Jolyne's good with that, she wouldn't exactly be thrilled to hear about her new event self either.

For Kiyotaka Ishimaru, his biggest regret was being unable to stop Mondo Oowada from doing a murder. So he'll be AUed to have somehow prevented that murder from happening! Thus he'll now remember a murdergame with a little less death, and he'll forget a lot of the development he's had. So he'll be at full energy and more straightforwardly optimistic, often to an arrogant degree. He'll have total faith in Mondo and the power of friendship, and he'll be intent on pushing everyone to find a way back home!

As for Steven Universe, I have no ideas for him, so he may just react to others!

Kokichi is gonna have a field day trying to learn how Ishimaru-chan prevented a murder. He's totes jealous.

Dorian and Kokichi

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2019-01-09 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Dorian Gray is a man who is full of regrets. For the sake of this event, we shall correct one of his more recent and most stressful regrets: the murder of his friend, Basil Hallward. The resulting AU is not much better. Here, Dorian manages to silence Basil by blackmailing him with his own confession. Thus, Basil lives to make his trip to Paris, but the man was clearly broken in spirit as he left, which reminds Dorian of Sybil in hindsight. Dorian decides to follow Basil to Paris a day or two later, in spite of Lord Henry's misgivings.

He wasn't able to find Basil again before he came to Wonderland, so during the event he will actually be wanting to return home and find out what became of his friend. The hunting incident and his wish to redeem himself will be forgotten.

Kokichi Oma's regret at his current canonpoint is not learning what Rantaro Amami's talent is. In this AU, he managed to switch Rantaro's Monopad with his own. Although doing this didn't prevent any deaths, Kokichi now has vital information he was never supposed to have. The killing game turned into a game of cat and mouse for Kokichi and the faceless mastermind, and he was plotting to break into Rantaro's Research Lab before Wonderland happened. So congrats, you all get a Kokichi who's bitter about not being able to take anything with him if Wonderland sends him home.

Nageki Fujishiro

[personal profile] mourning_ghost 2019-01-10 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Nageki doesn't regret his actions, but if he could change something it would be the virus his body carried. In this AU, Nageki was a healthy bird that ended up dying when his orphanage was held hostage by humans as an act of terrorism against birds.

This Nageki didn't view himself as a burden to his family, since he was able to contribute to the household. His time in Wonderland has given him time to stop being jumpy at the humans in Wonderland (his only prior exposure to humans being the ones that killed his sibligs and himself), so he acts pretty normal. The main difference people will notice is that he visits more of the mansion than he used to.

He's still pretty quiet as he has spent several years all alone as he haunted his old home and is unaware that he is a ghost.

He will be a few years younger since he died earlier, but there is no real way for anyone to notice that.

testcase: (pretend you're anything)

mostly just Jolyne for this one

[personal profile] testcase 2019-01-11 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Junko has no real regrets that would make any sort of major difference to her personality, whether it's her actions or someone else's, so she'll more or less be the same as she's been.

Jolyne on the other hand has lots of regrets! But we'll stick to the death of her friend FF. Not her fault, but in this case, that won't have happened. Which means Jolyne's other friend would've died (since it was a one or the other type thing here) and her father never got his memory back (long story). And that really sucks. And would probably change some stuff later on, but the short of it is she'll be noticeably more bitter and withdrawn than she is normally. Sure, her friend's alive, but wow does everything that comes after that suck.

Sunburst has a whole slew of regrets- this time though, we'll stick to him having a magical disability at all. In this reality, whatever it is that makes his magic broken isn't there- as such, he progressed through Pony Hogwarts Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns without problem. He remained one of Celestia's prize pupils, and as such was still around when Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle each became picked as prized pupils, too. This is a Sunburst who wrote to his damn friend because he had nothing to be ashamed of, and is a lot more confident and happy in himself. No crippling anxiety or self loathing for this guy!

Gren's biggest regret is the death of Lily. In this Gren's reality, Lily was never murdered- she continued to live and suffer under the Crooked Man's grasp. As there was no murder investigation, the seedy underworld the Crooked Man ran was never unearthed, so destitute Fables continue to struggle a lot more than they do otherwise. Gren is a lot more bitter about his home situation, he's a little less inclined to trust Other People too, seen as all his group is alive/not kicked out and he hasn't learned that people outside that group can be decent.

Louis is sitting this one out, let the kid rest.

cw: brief mention of child death

Clementine: SO since this Event can be other people's actions/things that happen to other people, Clementine regrets Lee's death obviously. We saw last AU w/ regrets that even if she doesn't choose to go away with the kidnapper that Lee still ends up dying.

So what if the only way to prevent Lee from dying is for Lee to never have found and saved Clementine? This means in this AU version she woulda died at like 8 years old, but she wouldn't be aware that that's what happened to her. Basically, this would just be 8 year old Clementine who only ever briefly saw a monster (wouldn't even know to call them walkers) and never went through the hell of surviving the apocalypse.

Basically, this lil mischievous girl having fun in da mansion.

I gotta make a journal for her, but I think I'm going w/ that.

Klaus both does not indulge regrets on principle but also regrets his entire life in many ways, so for the purposes of this event, I've decided to go with the first true regret he's ever experienced: his part in the death of his youngest brother, Henrik. In this timeline, Klaus never takes Henrik into the woods during a full moon. In turn, Henrik is never attacked by a werewolf and killed. This is the event that motivates their parents, Mikael and Esther, to turn them all into vampires, so they may never die.

Instead, Klaus and his siblings live human lives, and Klaus never escapes the abuse of his father nor learns of his true parentage as a bastard.

Also, he has great hair.
