[ Brianna is sitting outside near the lake when she decides to play again, putting aside the book she was half-heartedly reading anyway. ]

We should play a game, maybe break up the day a little bit. It's called 'Would You Rather?' Basically, someone gives a scenario and you have to pick one or the other. No in between. You can explain your choice if you want, but we go back and forth until there's something so impossible to pick the other person gives up.

I'll even start.

[ She thinks for a moment, then looks back at the camera. ]

Would you rather know each time you're going to leave and come back when it comes to Wonderland, or would you rather it be a total surprise like it is now only you get to remember being here when you do leave?

I think I'd want to know when I was leaving. That way I could say goodbye, you know?

Anyway. Your turn.

Hm...I think I'd say the same as you. The money is easier to replace and the pictures help keep our memories of things from fading. So I'd keep the pictures, too.

[He doesn't have a lot of photos himself, but the ones he does have mean a lot to him.]

[ Bree thinks, then smiles. ]

Okay, Would you rather be able to see 1 hour into your own future or 1 hour into the future of anyone but yourself?

[Oh, that one's hard. He has to consider that for a minute.]

I think I'd rather see other peoples' futures. That way, if something bad were to happen to them in that time, I'd be able to help them out.

...Even though they'd probably think I was crazy.

What about you?

I actually think I agree with you. An hour could be enough to stop someone from getting into a car because you know there's going to be an accident.

[ Bree frowns a little at that. Could she have saved the man who raised her just by talking to him another hour? Who knows. ]

Crazy or not, maybe we'd save some lives. Your turn.

Right. [He takes a second, then nods to himself.] Would you rather live in the wilderness away from all other people or live in a city, but be homeless?

[A beat, and then he goes ahead and just gives his answer.]

I'd rather be homeless in the city.

There's a lot to forage for in the city. Is that why you'd pick it?

[ But she's supposed to answer, so: ]

I'd go with the wilderness. I like seeing people every now and then but I like being alone. I really like being out in the woods, growing my own food. I grew up in a city but we vacationed outside of it all the time, and now my parents live in a cabin in the middle of the forest. Maybe it runs in the family.

I can understand that.

[There is definitely an appeal to that kind of life, even if he's never lived it himself.]

For me, there's the foraging thing. But mostly I'd choose the city because I think it would be hard to go without being around people for a very long time.

[That hasn't always been true for him. He used to be very solitary. And he still enjoys time alone. But things changed and now he finds it difficult to define himself as a person without others to reflect back who he should be in any given situation.]

I guess my answer makes me sound like a hermit, huh?

[ She smiles just a little, thinking of one for a moment. ]

Oh, okay. Would you rather be a master of every musical instrument or be fluent in every language?

[He hums a little as he thinks about that one.]

I think I'd choose every language. Every instrument would be cool, but I feel like I could learn more in the end if I knew every language.

I feel like that probably wasn't a hard choice.

[ She smiles and shakes her head. ]

Who wouldn't want to be able to speak universally anywhere they went?

I feel like mastering an instrument might be easier, anyway. Once you can read music, it's just a matter of learning each instrument's "rules."

Good point. Although I guess if someone really, really wanted to, they could argue that music itself is a language.

[ Bree gives a shrug. ]

You do have to learn how to read it, anyway.

That's true. But it's relatively simple. Musical "grammar" doesn't really have irregularities like linguistic grammar does.

[He smiles.]

Music does allow people to communicate things they might not be able to put into words, though. I have a friend who's too shy to really be able to express herself well. But when she plays music, she feels like she can reach people.

I never learned how to play an instrument, even though I'm positive my mother wanted me to. But I do love listening to music. And it's a good way to express yourself when you can't find words. I bet playing music makes it feel even more personal.

[ She's always been curious. Not curious enough to pick up an instrument. ]

I think you're right. It's a unique way of connecting.

[Again, he smiles.]

This game has been fun.

It has been, and it definitely distracted me, so that's nice. Thanks for playing for a little while.

[He'd ask what she needed distracting from, but they don't exactly know each other, and even he can respect peoples' privacy sometimes.]
