+ I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams - Ewaymas Plot Post! +
Hello everyone! Are you ready for Ewaymas to be explained in full, and to hear who our not-so-lucky winners are?! Well, great! It's all behind this cut though, because it got a little long.
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again!
On December 13th, just after the clock strikes midnight, there will be loud clanking and clattering and the sounds of things rushing down the halls and attaching themselves to the walls. This might startle newer guests in Wonderland, but those who were here last Christmas (or for any previous Christmases) will recognize this ruckus. Take a peek in the halls – you'll find that the mansion is decorating itself for Christmas! Garland is racing along the halls, lights are strung, and there's a stocking for everyone currently in Wonderland, no matter how long they've been around. It's an impressive display, as it is every year. Overnight it snowed, and that snow will stay in Wonderland until the end of winter. And in the entrance hall, a large Christmas tree has sprouted right out of the floor, and has decorated itself with lights and garland and ribbon, and all sorts of lovely ornaments.
However, this year the redecorating has caused several cracks in the floor all over the mansion. They're not big enough to fall in, but they're large enough to be seen. If anyone cares to look, they will see some familiar gray roots slithering about under the surface. But, not to fear! They don't seem to be able to get out. They're just there, casually breaking the structural integrity of Wonderland. In addition, there are little transparent breaks in the air. These are also harmless enough – they will crackle like electricity when touched, but they won't harm anyone.
But when this happens, the following ten people will go missing: Annie Edison, Tom Hanniger, Stiles Stilinski, Cordelia Chase, Jesse Pinkman, Chihiro Fujisaki, James Potter, Dean Winchester, Emma Swan, and Issac Lahey
They haven't been swapped with their Mirrors, and all of their belongings are as they were. They even still have their stockings hung in the halls! That would be a bit hard if they had actually gone home, wouldn't it? These people will be missing for two days.
Well, it's been (five years) – it doesn't surprise me
On December 15th, everyone who was missing will return...sort of.
All ten of the people who went missing will have been replaced by...themselves. Older, though not physically. Each one of them will claim to be from five years into Wonderland's future, and they have seen horrors unimagined. None of them will be able to explain how the swap happened – one moment they were there and the next they were not. But it is likely the largest burst of magic they have witnessed in some time. They won't know where their younger selves have vanished to either, not for certain. One might guess they've been sent to the future, or that the roots have done something to them.
Seven of them (Cordelia Chase, Jesse Pinkman, Chihiro Fujisaki, James Potter, Dean Winchester, Emma Swan, and Issac Lahey) are as one might imagine they would be – a little scarred, perhaps, but still themselves. However, three of them are...off, a bit. At some point in the future (any point of the mun's choosing), Annie Edison, Tom Hanniger, and Stiles Stilinski will all die for a fifth time. This death will have taken something crucial to who they are, something that makes them human. They will also have been reborn with an instinctive loyalty to the Queen of Hearts, exactly like the Mirrors are naturally created with. That aspect can manifest itself in a number of different ways, as evidenced by the numerous different attitudes the Mirrors have toward their Queen, but it is ultimately a sense that she is somehow responsible for their continued existence.
In addition to the accidental time-travelers, there will be other signs of the impending future across the mansion and its snowy grounds. Faded images will flicked in and out – ghosts of Wonderland's future. These ghosts can be of anyone (even those who did not sign up for swapping or deaths), from any point in the next five years. They will play on repeat, as Wonderland's Chess Piece Ghosts have in the past, and they will offer brief glimpses into the future for anyone who witnesses them. They cannot be stopped, and the images cannot be changed or altered. This isn't to say that the future can't eventually be changed, of course, but there is nothing that anyone can do over the course of this event that will change the contents of these imprints.
December never felt so wrong
Here is the horrible story the future selves have to tell. All dates are given relative to the present.
In about a year or two, give or take, the Jabberwocky will return to Wonderland. It has been some time since he invaded, though a few of the people who have been trapped in Wonderland for a long time may remember the last time he attacked. A couple might even recall the first time. But for all those who haven't, you may have at least heard the tale before. No? Well, let us explain.
The Jabberwock is a fierce and ravenous creature. It is the beast to end all beasts, and the largest and most dangerous creature in all of Wonderland. Whenever it turns up he eats and eats and is never satisfied, no matter how much carnage it's caused. It will kill over and over and over again if it can. It is a creature of nightmares – it will prowl through dreams and twist them into dark premonitions of its arrival. Absolutely no good comes from dreaming of the Jabberwock. It can also take on the properties of the weapons it eats – once, a foolish Mirror attempted to catch it with bear traps, and even now it still has sharp, metallic teeth. They will put up a strong fight against the Jabberwocky, but sadly on one thing can defeat the it – the Vorpal Blade. The Queen of Hearts has stepped up in the past twice now and slayed the Jabberwock. The act has left a stain on the grounds that will never heal.
Now, if you may recall from the last event, the Vorpal Sword is no longer in the Queen of Hearts' possession – the Duchess has taken it and run off with it. When she's forced to face the Jabberwocky, she has a similar response. She runs, with the Vorpal Sword in tow. No one has seen any sign of her or the Vorpal Sword in years. There is still the Vorpal Shield though, which the Red Queen should be able to use to at least protect everyone, right? Well...she puts up a good fight, but unfortunately it snatches the shield away and eats it. This gives the Jabberwock the properties of the shield itself, meaning that an impenetrable armor grows over its skin.
Once this occurs, continued existence in Wonderland will no longer be dependent on defeating the Jabberwocky, but surviving the Jabberwocky. Without any means of defeating it, it will come and go as it pleases – as it hungers. Wonderland does what it can to defend itself; all of its resources are put towards survival. Events will no longer occur. No one new will arrive in Wonderland, and no one currently in Wonderland will leave. No memories will be lost (unless one goes directly to the Core). Wonderland will lock itself down, to try and prevent the Jabberwock from preying on its magic, effectively starving itself (think of it as running on battery power). At this point in time, closets still work and everyone still revives from death. The Jabberwocky will attack almost as frequently as events used to occur, if not more often.
But all this year's been a busy blur – don't think I have the energy
Six months later (approximately two and a half years beyond the present), the glass that separates the Real Side from the Mirror Side will fall and shatter. The magic that keeps the two sides separate has been used up to sustain Wonderland, and both Mirrors and Real Things will be able to climb through. A Real and their corresponding Mirror will be able to exist on the same side without swapping – the magic that normally prevents that has been exhausted.
Once the Mirrors and Real Things make contact, the Real Things will learn that the Jabberwock has been attacking Mirror Side as well, and that they have been hesitant (and likely fighting) over whether or not to cross in this time of Emergency. The more loyal Mirrors would be insistent that their Queen would return and give them instructions, but...that still hasn't happened. It will occur to everyone that they haven't seen any of Wonderland's residents in some time. Once the events stopped coming, they seemed to just vanish, leaving them all to fend for themselves – even the Queen of Hearts' precious Mirrors. The Mirrors have been worse off than their counterparts for one reason – due to the close proximity to the Core, the Mirror Side does not have a “five deaths” policy. Anyone who dies on Mirror Side dies for good, and this will be especially true for the Mirrors. Normally, if they die on their side of the glass and they have been good servants and soldiers, the Queen of Hearts will remake them personally, and bring them back to life. But, without the Queen of Hearts around, all of the Mirror deaths have been permanent. The Real Things have been dying, but at least they are still able to come back to life.
It is for this reason that many Mirrors will choose to migrate to Real Side, now that they are able. Some might not, of course. They might prefer to take their risks on their own side of the mansion, but the Real Side will ultimately be safer. There is lingering distrust on both sides, but with a common enemy many Mirrors and Real Things will choose to work together to try and stay alive. Together, they come up with one plan to try and get rid of the Jabberwocky – they may be able to destroy it once and for all by luring it to the Core and trapping it there. It isn't the best plan, and it's an incredibly risky plan, but it's the only chance they have without any weapons to get rid of it. The Core will hopefully rip it apart and return things to normal. They launch this plan six months after the Mirrors and Reals make contact (approximately three years beyond the present).
Unfortunately...it will go tragically wrong. They will be able to lure the Jabberwocky to Mirror Side, but it is far too fast. Faster than they had anticipated. It will quickly become a massacre, and many will lose their lives. The rest of the group is forced to retreat anywhere they can well before they reach the Core, and recovery missions only give the Jabberwocky a second course. By the time everything is over, more than a dozen Real Things will have died permanently, along with several Mirrors as well.
The Real Thing casualties are as follows:
Castiel, Allison Argent, Derek Hale, Greed, Lena Duchannes, John Blake, The Kid, Meg, Souji Seta, Crowley (SPN), H.G. Wells, Lindsey McDonald, Aramis, George Lass, Mark Meltzer, Benny Lafitte, Philip, and Aziraphale
Rest in peace, friends.
Won't mean a thing dear, if you're not here with me
There is idle chatter about trying again, but it will be difficult to organize a second mission. Very few have the heart to, after the bloodbath that was the first attempt. There will be many bad feelings all around – guilt, grief, sorrow. Many people will have lost dear friends and loved ones, and they lost them for good. It's a very difficult and sad time to be in Wonderland. All they can do is press on, and continue trying to survive Jabberwocky attacks with as few casualties as possible.
A year after (and four years beyond the present), the mansion really begins to fail. When the Jabberwock destroys a piece of the mansion, it will not automatically repair itself. At first it takes days, but eventually it will take weeks or months to show any sign of recovery at all. Some damage never repairs, but somehow the mansion itself always remains standing. The lights begin to flicker, and in some areas the power goes out completely.
The closets and the kitchens will finally begin to give out. They will not give items as often as requested, and will only fill about one in every five requests. It will only get worse over the course of the year, until the closets barely work at all. Food and goods will quickly become scarce, and of course the vendors vanished when all of the other NPCs did. Surprisingly, there will still be not-quite-entirely-real creatures in the forest, but anyone hunting them will be competing against the Jabberwocky for food. It's not impossible, of course – we don't want anyone to waste a life starving – we're just advising that you be cautious and take what you can get, that's all. ♥
The most recent development (about five years beyond the present) is that all of the Mirrors have vanished. By now they will have been existing alongside the Real Things for more than two years, so it will be a shocking blow – especially since no one has disappeared in so long now. They will have completely disappeared, leaving all of their belongings and supplies behind. Any brave souls who go looking will not find a single corpse. They are just...gone. Ultimately, they are something Wonderland has created, and sadly Wonderland is not strong enough to maintain them. It is immediate cause for worry, and a sign that Wonderland is breaking even more than it already has. This will have happened two weeks before the future swap, so it is still fresh in everyone's minds.
I just want you here tonight, holding on to me so tight
As you can see, our time travelers will be coming from an incredibly heavy future – one without much Christmas cheer at all. Or any cheer, really. And given the forced swap and the roots underground, one might expect something else to go horribly, horribly wrong.
...But, it won't. Surprise!
Everyone might be on their guard, but it will actually be a chance for these war-torn bad end AUs to have a relatively normal Christmas season. They can spend it with loved ones, and impart advice for the future. Maybe even speculate on ways to prevent it from coming at all. The NPCs may make some casual appearances as well, curious about Wonderland's newest guests and what their arrival truly means. There will be constant reminders in the flickering ghost images of the future, but they can have a good meal for the first time in ages.
On December 25th*, the event will come to an end. All of the ghosts and time travelers will flicker away and fade, going back to the terrible future they came from. Within a couple of minutes, the present-day versions of everyone will return, and they will have absolutely no memory of where they've been for the past week and a half. All of the breaks and cracks will repair themselves, but...with no sign that the roots were taken care of or destroyed. Hm. That's odd.
Finally, on Christmas everyone will find a gift in their stocking. They will not be specific items from home this time, but they will be tailored to the character – a gift that Wonderland thinks they might enjoy. They won't be able to pull absurdly large items out of their stocking (like cars or jetskis or bicycles or Gatling guns) but they are definitely deeper on the inside than the outside. General rule of thumb – if you can fit it underneath a Christmas tree, it will show up wrapped inside their stocking. Once Christmas is over, the mansion will take down its decorations (but it will leave the snow outside until Spring) and everyone will have a lot to ponder for the new year.
* - The Mod Team is well aware that few people will be around for the actual day, so OOCly this will extend into December 26th. It's basically an annual mod-sanctioned back-dating day where we go “shh the whole game will pretend it's Christmas for one more day”. This means OOCly the event will be over on the 27th.
THAT IS ABOUT IT. Two quick things and I will leave you to plot to your heart's content.
The first is that applications are now closed until December 29th. The exception to this rule is that we will be processing re-apps this week for anyone who didn't pass AC and wants to keep their character in the game with their memories and no interruptions. We will be doing these re-apps as soon as we can after they come in. This is because we want everyone to be able to come play in Ewaymas if they want to! Otherwise, you guys would be stuck waiting until the 29th and that's not really fair. Also, check out the final tweaks we made to the AC if you haven't yet!
And the second is how this post is getting divided up! There's going to be three threads for you to comment on. One is the usual FAQ for all your Q&A needs. Then there will be one thread for Future Plotting and one thread for Present Day Plotting. In future plotting you guys can hash out what's been happening to everyone, who's been teaming up with who, how many deaths have you gotten, what's been happening to your Mirrors, etc. And in present-day plotting you plot out stuff that's going on during the actual event, like what's going to show up as ghosts, what's going on with the future versions in the present, what you got in your stocking, or even just what cute Christmas-y things you'll be doing around all of this. Other assorted shrieking can just go wherever. /o/
WE HOPE YOU'LL HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF FUN. MERRY EWAYMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD RP. ♥
