[ Robin doesn't use his device too terribly often; not because he doesn't understand how to use it - he's caught on well by now - but he'd still much prefer to speak with someone in person, unless of course they really only need to ask something briefly of each other. It serves a purpose, he won't deny that.

And today, he's decided to step outside of his comfort zone and deviate from how he normally conducts himself, posing a few questions and observations to anyone who might be listening.

He's in the dining room at the moment, giving some thought as to what he wants to eat, and his face is rather perfectly centered as he speaks. ]

Before my arrival here in Wonderland, I had a brief stay in a small village by the name of Storybrooke. Everyone frequented Granny's diner, so I presume the food was extraordinary there, but I regretfully didn't have much time to sample it all.

[ He thinks for a moment, trying to remember some of the menu items: ]

I enjoyed the burger I was able to try, and the grilled cheese.

I was curious about something called buffalo wings. Does anyone know much about the buffalo? It must be rather small, based on its wing structure.

[ He's familiar with chickens, and the meat that comprises burgers, but buffalo is something new to him. ]

I've come to understand there's a particular type of food unique to diners, and while this place isn't a diner in the strictest sense, we can certainly acquire any of the food normally found there. I'm not sure what I should try. Any suggestions?

[ cora has no clue where storybrooke is, and has no interest in finding out, either, but she finds his question to be one that's curious. she hasn't quite run into anyone within wonderland who doesn't know what a buffalo wing looks like. everyone's just so ... mundane. ]

[ her expression is one that's a little disinterested. cora deadpans, ] It's chicken. [ should she apologise for potentially bursting his bubble? there's nothing interesting about them — at least in cora's opinion. ] They were first made in Buffalo, New York. [ the random shit she had googled, once upon a time. ]

[ she looks a touch uncomfortable, uncertain if she should apologise or try and soften the potential blow of her words. ] There's nothing special about them.

['Extraordinary,' huh. He wasn't wrong; Granny did make a mean grilled cheese, but even if the food hadn't been good, Emma's sure people would have spent all their time there anyway. Where else was she to go?

It's the rest of the message, however, that makes her smile. Someone needs a bit of educating. ~~Even if she's feeling a touch guilty about the Marian thing.~~]

Robin, I'd say it's about time we got you up to speed. Starting with buffalo wings.

[She grins.]

Eighth floor, diner. Meet me there in ten minutes. Bring your appetite.

[ Of course, he's spent most of his life in Sherwood Forest, but that's sure to come out in conversation at some point, it always seems to. Unless she's from one of those worlds where stories of Robin Hood aren't prevalent. ]

Chicken?

[ He is...a bit disappointed? And confused. ]

Why not simply call them chicken wings? Or is it important to name them after the place where they were first made?

[ He regrets that he didn't get to try more of the food, but he did like what he sampled. Then again, given what he'd been used to eating for many of the past few years, just about anything would have tasted good to him. ]

Oh, I certainly have quite the appetite. I'll see you shortly.

[ And he hustles to the eighth floor fairly quickly, a bright smile on his face when he finds Emma. ]

Emma. I trust you're well?

[Martha has met most of the people here who are from Storybrooke (though in reality, most of them are actually from the Enchanted Forest), but this face is a new one to her. His questions make it all too clear that he's not used to a more modern world, which likely means that he'd only spent a short time in Storybrooke.

Not a part of the curse, then? That's interesting, although Martha also has to reflect on the fact that she knows enough about Storybrooke's history to put this all together. That's part of the package of being friends with Emma Swan.

When she replies, she's got a smile on her face that she can't quite lose. There's always something enjoyable about encountering someone who's so new to everything she's familiar with.]

It's a bit confusing. Buffalo wings are actually made from chickens -- I think buffalo is the name of the sauce, and a buffalo actually is another kind of animal. I'm not sure why the sauce is called that, to be honest.

[It's really more of an American thing.]

You might want to try the diner on the eighth floor. The person who originally opened it worked at Granny's, though she hasn't been here in a long time.

[Ruby's back home, back where she belongs, so Martha won't allow herself to be upset about that.]

[His world has none of these things so he is very confused.]

You put cheese on a grill and eat it?

[....ew.]

[She waves when she spots him, already seated at one of the tables near the counter, gesturing for him to sit on the opposite side of the booth.]

Oh, about as well as I can be.

[Her last trip home had been a rough one for several reasons, one of which she was adamantly trying to keep a secret from him for the time being. Still, she smiles, giving an easy shrug.]

Have a seat. I already put an order in. You've missed out on a lot by spending all that time running around the woods in tights.

[ He nods when he sees her, taking a seat in the booth across from her and folding his hands together atop the table. ]

I suppose that's the most we can expect in a place like this.

[ He doesn't detect much of anything beyond that, assuming she just feels the same way they all do about being trapped here. ]

A pity, truly. But I do think I looked rather dashing in those tights, I must say.

[ He smirks, playing along with it, because why not? He finds those stories frankly amusing. ]

[Tybalt remembers some of the older faeries in San Francisco being confused by this back when they became a thing. It was humorous then and it's still pretty funny now.

He's not going to tease, though, even if it's hilarious how even now, people don't get it. That's the only reason he's responding to this man's question.]

Diners are either the bastions of good cooking or a place you end up at two in the morning when you're drunk or high and hungry, depending on who you ask. [No, Tybalt, you're talking about Denny's with that last one.] Which would you prefer?

[ He wasn't taken to Storybrooke when the curse was cast, left behind in the Enchanted Forest to fend off ogres in a rather desolate land, doing his best to keep his son safe. He sees no reason to dwell on what's past, though; as unpleasant as it was, with the help of his men, they all survived and did well adapting to their surroundings, and in a strange way, he's glad he was taken to Storybrooke the second time around. That fate was far better than being left behind in what remained of the Enchanted Forest. ]

[ At the young woman's explanation, Robin is thoroughly confused now, but he's also glad to learn, not wanting to be ignorant about things like this. He was reluctant to learn how to use the communication device, but not using it isn't really an option here, so he adjusts when necessary. ]

I can't quite understand why they wouldn't simply call it chicken wings, in that case, but at least I'm a bit more enlightened about it.

[ It's a bit astonishing that he hasn't already found the diner himself, but he tends not to spend much time inside the mansion. He's lived out in the forest so much of his life, and finds comfort in the woods, only really coming into the mansion to sleep. He wonders what else he's missed out on by doing that. ]

Someone else from Storybrooke? Was her name...Ruby, by chance?

[ It takes a moment for him to recall her name, since he was only there for a short while. ]

[ Don't worry, he's right there with you on being confused. Just...about something else entirely this time. ]

Not quite like that. A bit of cheese is melted between two slices of bread, and the entire sandwich is put on a warm grill. It toasts up nicely on the outside, I enjoyed it with tomato soup.

[Hm okay, that's not as weird.]

Sounds plain.

[But he is use to just bread and soup so whatever he has no reason to talk.]

I can't give you any suggestions. Unless you like bread or potatoes.

[Thats...pretty much all they had in his world.]

[ He would take the teasing in stride, of course, but he's also appreciative of the direct answer, however amusing it may be. High isn't a word he's really heard much at all, but he can suss out that it might also mean not being entirely sober. ]

There's a significant difference?

[ He has been drunk before, of course; not for quite some time, but he remembers how it feels when you're drunk, wanting something heavy to absorb all of that alcohol. Meat and potatoes, generally. Since he's not familiar with being high, he doesn't quite grasp the meaning in the difference. ]

Well, one is actually good if you like that sort of thing. The other is the food of the desperate and doesn't necessarily taste good.

[Henry doesn't even reply to the video, just mostly races down to the dining room and slides into a chair across from Robin.]

First of all, it's not really buffalo, it's chicken. It's the wings of the chicken. I dunno why they call them buffalo wings, maybe someone else does. But I can get you some really good food.

[In just a few moments there's cheese and pepperoni pizza, nachos with everything, seasoned curly fries, mint chocolate chip ice cream and, two milkshakes. Because he can have all of this if it's helping Robin find new things, right?]

Here., some basics. You should try this one first. It's called nachos. Chips, melted cheese, and you can put anything else you want on them.

You ever had pot roast? You look like a pot roast kinda guy.

[ There's been a lot of interesting broadcasts lately and this one has her chuckling as she flicks open the feed to reply, seeing that others have already answered his initial question. But it's been a few days since she's caught up with him, so she can't resist. ]

Diner food's alright, but you should try Thai.

[ Not that she's biased or anything. Oh wait, yes she is, and it happens to be one of her comfort foods. ]

You really were living under a rock before you got here, weren't you?

[ Robin's not entirely surprised to see Henry, they've had some pleasant conversations so far, and he enjoys spending time with the boy. It's helped a bit to ease the ache of missing his own son.

His eyes widen when so much food suddenly appears before them.

And it's not like he's lived in the modern world very long and knows much about cholesterol or saturated fats, and what so much grease might do to one's stomach. Obviously, too much food isn't a good thing, and they have quite a bit in front of them, so he's not sure it's wise to eat all of it, especially since Henry isn't really his son, and he assumes neither of Henry's mothers would appreciate a sick boy on their hands. But he'll deal with that when the time comes. ]

This is...an extraordinary amount of food. Do you typically eat this much all at once?

I've indulged in roast meat on occasion, but pot roast is something I haven't specifically tried. I assume there's a particular technique involved in cooking it?

[ It's nice to see her face, she's someone he's come to regard as a good friend here in Wonderland, and that's not something he takes lightly. Allies and friends are part of what enriches one's life, not to mention, in a place like this it's wise to have friends in case something happens and everyone needs to rally together.

He smirks at her remark, though, and teases back. ]

A tree, actually. Just to be clear on the matter.

[ Not a rock. :P ]

What constitutes Thai food, then?

[ Most of what he'd seen on that diner menu in Storybrooke sounded strange to him, though it had been fun to try some new things, and he's the adventurous sort. ]

It is, rather, though evidently there are many varieties of cheese in that world, so that adds a bit more flavor.

[ Bread, potatoes, and meat are what he's used to, so: ]

I enjoy both, actually.

I see. [ And actually, that does explain it a bit better. ] I'd generally prefer the sort that's good, though I'm curious what one would eat when they're simply desperate and quality is deemed insignificant.

Well, they're a type of chicken wing. A subset, if you will.

[Food truly can be a confusing topic, especially for someone from another world who's never heard a lot of the terms that they rest of them have grown up learning. Martha's happy to teach and fill in the blanks where she can, especially if this man happens to be a friend of Emma's.

Hopefully it won't be like Pan, where she found out after the fact that he shouldn't be trusted.]

You might be best off trying some for yourself. And yes, it was Ruby. The two of us got to be friends, before Wonderland sent her back home.

[He'll no doubt hear talk of her if he goes up to the diner, seeing how Tohru had started it alongside Ruby. She's been gone over a year now, and yet they've still taken efforts to preserve her memory here. Martha has, at least.]

Fatty, disgusting things that barely look like food, at least in my experience.

[He has seen too many people go into those sort of dinners as a cat. It's pathetic.]

As for the good ones...it depends. I've seen everything from simple breakfasts to incredibly large ice cream sundaes.

[The ones that are fun to watch tourists try to eat.]

[Tohru originally came here to answer his question, but she finds herself distracted by something else in his message.]

Granny's diner? In Storybrooke? Excuse me, but do you know someone there named Ruby? Ruby Lucas?

[It's the first Tohru's heard about Ruby since she disappeared from Wonderland. Tohru misses her dearly, and to know for certain that she's still out there and that she did make it home is an immense comfort to her.]

Ah, you see...she's a friend of mine. There's a diner on the eighth floor, and we started it together. She went home some time ago now, but I've done my best to keep it running while she's been gone. She would probably be able to give you better suggestions since she works in one at home, but if there's anything you'd like to try, I would be more than happy to try and make it for you!
