Her eyes widen when he mentions the Grey Wardens, sure she would not divulge such information to anyone, less some nobleman of Ostwick. As much as he claims to have received her help, this "future" Morrigan is sounding less and less like her.]
...I have, yes. And what exactly do you know of my encounter with these Grey Wardens?
no subject
[ His tone is apologetic as he straightens again, because he realizes how this must sound and he's well aware of how much she's careful with her secrets. But how was he supposed to tell her that she'd become a close adviser of his and even, in some ways, a good friend? Hours they'd spent sharing information and stories in Skyhold's gardens, times he'd played with her son to make him laugh and brighten. The fact that she'd saved his life in the Arbor Wilds despite how angry she'd been with him at the time. ]
Much of it has grown into legend with each retelling, of course. But you've confided some of your own personal accounts of the tale when we've talked. I suspect the Warden you know is quite a bit different than the figure the stories have created. I've not met the Warden in person yet, although you arranged for us to exchange some correspondence when situations were looking pretty dire. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd still be alive right now, if it weren't for your knowledge and your aid.
[ There, maybe that would impart some of the importance she's had in recent events he's endured. ]
no subject
Then I spoke to her again. I am... was not sure if I ever would.
[She considers this information for a moment, then continues.]
I have not departed from the Warden long enough to hear what the people have to say of her exploits. She had only just been named Hero of Ferelden; that much I have heard. I was heading for Orlais, yes, where I imagine I would later meet you. As for why I would have such a vested interest in your life, as you claim, I cannot imagine. I do not generally meet with nobles at masquerades. I see little purpose in such things.
no subject
No, I distinctly got that impression from you, it's true. Although our purposes were aligned at the time. A threat to Thedas - to all of it - had emerged and the solution to the problem lay in your area of expertise. We required knowledge of ancient elven artifacts, all but lost to memory, and a temple buried deep within the Arbor Wilds. You approached me with the information you believed would help. It did - greatly. I don't know what we would have done without you.
no subject
[Surely she would contact the Hero of Ferelden, who had shown her that she had the ability to fight such threats.]
I assume you were able to do it, then. The evil defeated and we could all go back home and sleep soundly after a job well done. Perhaps, then, my choice in trusting you with this information was founded.
[She's being a bit snippy, she knows, but she doesn't like being told she has less knowledge than someone. For her to meet someone from her future, even as appreciative as he seems, she only thinks she would rather it be the other way around.]

[ Brennan holds out his left hand between them, the Anchor flickering to life at his will, green light glowing from the mark on his palm. Corypheus had been right in stating the mark would be permanent - not even his death or the destruction of the orb had made it fade in power. Useful, Brennan supposed, in case there was ever a time in which Rifts started opening again. At least he's had plenty of time and experience now to master it. Or at least as much as he could ever claim.
He takes her tone in stride, not minding it in the least and completely undaunted. She was different, yes, but he could still easily see the Morrigan he called friend in her. Besides, he'd always immensely enjoyed her sharp tongue and sense of humor.
Then again, he'd romanced Dorian. No one should be surprised. ]
We did, of a sort. I'm not sure sleeping soundly's in store, considering we're here now. But one has to have goals, I suppose.
no subject
[Because she's been in the Fade before, and while it's not easy to come out unscathed, being left with a glowing mark of it is definitely new.]
Surely you can sleep soundly here. You need only cover your ears and eyes and let the new world do with you as it will.
[But she knows already, from how much she's spoken to him, that blissful ignorance is not an option for Brennan.]
no subject
[ Brennan's voice is dry as he lets the Anchor fade once more, dropping his hand back to his side. ]
It's a very long tale. The short version is someone found one of the ancient Tevinter Magisters who broke into the Fade and unsealed him from the prison he'd been trapped in since... Oh, I don't know, forever. Only he woke up a darkspawn and he wasn't very happy about it. As all maniacal villains are wont to do, he dipped into using magics he didn't fully understand to try again and ended up ripping a giant whole in the sky that led to the Fade and sent dozens of others opening up all over Thedas. I... happened to interrupt his dastardly plot and foiled his endeavor and ended up with this as a souvenir. Lucky me. Since I'd stolen his chance at godhood, he took insult and well... There was lots of fighting and demons and about what you'd expect to follow.
[ And that's the short version, Morrigan. You're welcome.
Her comment about sleep just gets a dry look from him because yeah right. That's not very likely. Even before playing hero went to his head. ]
I'm not very good at hiding beneath my blankets when there are problems to be dealt with, I'm afraid.
no subject
So the Chantry tale of the magisters' attempt to steal into the seat of the Maker is true, then. I suppose that gives some credence to their other teachings. [She wrinkles her nose a bit at that. She doesn't like the Chantry being right about anything. Still, she's pleased to know as much, now. Though she resents not knowing, to receive a font of information in the form of a Marcher nobleman could actually be considered fortuitous for her.]
Yes, I thought so. Nor am I, you will find. Though perhaps you already know it. [Since he... knows her already. That'll take some getting used to.]
no subject
[ Brennan's not the sort to start arguing theology with anyone. He's dating a Tevinter mage and two of his closest friends are a Qunari and an elven apostate obsessed with ancient lore. He tries to avoid proposing religious debates whenever possible, it tends to get messy all too quickly. ]
You have proven to be the proactive sort. [ He chuckles faintly and glances up at her from beneath thick, dark lashes. ] I apologize. This is... weird, isn't it?
no subject
She frowns deeply at his apology, thinking perhaps she is being pitied.] 'Tis only as strange as one would expect when messing about with time. There is no need to apologize, I am no worse off for it. Only less ignorant of my future, which cannot be said for most, putting me at an advantage, I think.
no subject
I don't have much experience in messing with time. Well. Not on purpose. [ Technically he hadn't done the messing, he'd just gotten caught in the backlash of it. And what a nightmare that had been. ] And I was more apologizing in case I'd made you uncomfortable. I know you... value your knowledge. [ There, that was tactful, right? ]
no subject
[She purses her lips.] I do value my knowledge, and there is value to be found in gaining knowledge of one's future. Uncomfortable I may be, but little more than that. I am fine. [Leave it to Morrigan to be insulted at someone's concern for her comfort.]
no subject
But that doesn't change the fact that I have seen it. Twice, in fact. Not that I find it to have been an overly pleasant or relaxing trip. And despite the tizzy it caused that I can apparently physically walk in and walk back out again, I think I would have preferred to avoid the entire mess, honestly. This [ he holds up his hand once more ] is apparently a key. It's used to lock and unlock doorways through the veil. Or so a helpful spirit informed me. You yourself confirmed the explanation. Or, you will, rather. One day.
[ He holds his hands up in surrender at her insistence. ] Of course you are, Lady Morrigan. I did not doubt that at all. You are always one of the most composed people I know. [ Even when she was furious at him. Terrifying, but still composed. Only once had he seen her badly shaken, and that was not an encounter he wanted to bring up just yet. ]
no subject
[And what interests her now, apart from the fact he is from her future.
Meanwhile, she looks at him with a frown.] As long as that is clear to the both of us.
