action;

[Evelyn remembers the event.

With immense dismay did she return to her own rooms only to discover that her Mirror had taken a Polaroid camera, a gift from Will, and left a nasty note in one of her photograph albums. Upon her reappearance she locked them away in a small safe, thinking it better than abject disregard. Even the tangible reminders of memory must be protected. The Core was sick, it needed substance.

It needed...substance...

For a long moment Evelyn stares at him, stewing in the quiet, privately horrified at the thought of offering a live animal to support a dying system. What did that mean for Philip, then, indebted as he was already to being remade after a fifth death? Given the circumstances and lack of prospects, would Evelyn do the same if the time came? What would she cast into the pit to remain in the only place she has left?

Wish burning. Got any interesting facts on that tradition?

I've never heard of it. Sounds a bit morbid.

It was a sacrifice made to maintain the status quo and she cannot fault him for it, not when she can see how it has weighed on him in turn. Tightening her jaw Evelyn nods, the motion perfunctory, processing as she wanders over to the sitting area and braces her hands on the back of the sofa.
