[ those soft squelching sounds, insistent and crying meows, and thumps you hear are accompanied by flashes of color and white fur. this is iskra, a cat, being absolutely impossible and absolutely adorable to her sometimes master (or perhaps more aptly put, subject) klaus mikaelson.
both of which the lucky audience of wonderland gets to see, quite candidly, in a moment. ] Iskra. [ klaus' admonishment is spoken in a gruff undertone but the affection is obvious; it's not the first nor does he expect the last time his afternoon companion will demand more attention than she's due. (but that doesn't mean he won't give it to her.)
he pulls the cat against his chest, his fingers spotted just some with paint. there are speckles of color on iskra as well, and her paws, one of which she lifts to nudge at klaus' chin, leaving behind a blue spot. he blinks but is nonetheless charmed by her familiar behavior despite himself. then, not to be outdone, she reaches to do the same to the canvas.
with a soft tsk of more admonishment, klaus teases her. ] A modernist, are we? A pointillist?
[ it's only then the movement of the recording video on his phone catches klaus' attention. ] Bloody— [ the "hell" bit is cut off, mostly because iskra leaps from klaus' arms to the paw the phone now too.

text;
does not compute ]
I've truly preferred horses, if we're being particular. I hadn't met a simian man myself.
text;
Horses are difficult to keep in workspaces, though.
And they don't have those cute little hands.
no subject
[ wait this is cutting like a knife already ]
I can't say I mind the paws, however.
no subject
And they could be useful as partners, running about and fiddling with things like tiny assistants.
Except Jemma won't let me have one.
Where would you make room to house a horse?
no subject
There are stables. I'd keep the horse there.
no subject
She's also boring.
There are stables here also? I've not been to them. [Because Fitz is a man who can live in a place for ten months and never bother going outside for more than a few hours.] But why not get yourself a horse, then? People don't seem to have much difficulty producing them from the closets.
[Because magic is ridiculous and upsetting.]
no subject
klaus is not surprised fitz has not realized there are stables outside. #longsuffering
exasperationaffection ] It hadn't occurred to me, honestly. The last time I had a horse [ well. he had to abandon it, what with his father after them. it suffered a better fate than the horse mikael slew. ] was quite some time ago.[ fitz is the only one he will straight up admit this to ok: ] Iskra's not mine. She's just taken a liking to me.
no subject
Even though she should still let me have one anyway.
I could make it wear little hats and dress it in a tiny tuxedo.
[He's been fantasizing about this hypothetical monkey for a really long time okay.]
Well then it might be time for something new.
She's Cami's, then?
[Who else even has enough access to Klaus' room to get an animal in there?]
no subject
at the assumption however, klaus pauses. besides iskra's indifference to camille, he's not quite sure how to explain the circumstances in which iskra is here nor the person the cat does belong to. he'll simplify it in the only way he can figure how. ] Another friend's.
[ AND TO CHANGING THE SUBJECT ]
Perhaps you're right. It might be time to consider another hobby to fill the endless time here. Perhaps we both should.
no subject
[Oh, so Klaus has other friends going in and out og his quarters. That's fine. Whatever. He's entitled to other friends. It's perfectly normal to have them.]
I see. Nobody I'd know, I suppose?
And -- both of us? I'm considering designing a time machine just to go back and have enough time to get through what I've already promised to everyone.
no subject
it's a bit awkward to admit someone you once slaughtered has been made friends by a trip to a magic castle and in consequence her pet follows you around like you're catnip. it's embarrassing for both of them. not to mention he's certain elena won't be pleased to realize just where her cat's gone off to when she disappears. no reason to pour salt in that wound.
but he digresses. ] A wise man once said, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Get your monkey. I'll get my horse.
no subject
[Though this might lead back to the "how many vampires are there??? question that's been lingering overhead.
And though he replies to that text immediately, the second part leaves him struggling unexpectedly. "Get your" and then something unintelligible. There's something there, but the characters don't resemble anything Fitz can recognize. It almost looks like a word, and then it vanishes again.
It's good that they're texting; that means Klaus can't see how red his face has gotten from needing to ask for clarification:]
what was that? Just before you mentioned the horse. I think there was a glitch.
no subject
particularly who and in what context told him. ] Well he's quite the personality. [ that's true enough. it's not a personality klaus has liked.
klaus has never heard of the network glitching but perhaps there's a first time for everything. or something else. ] Your primate?
no subject
[But he doesn't give more than that. Peter is the connective tissue here, but Peter is also tied to people who are enemies of Klaus. It could be dangerous to give them an anchor to one another. It's for the best to stay mum on details.]
That makes more sense. Thanks
Not sure what happened earlier.
no subject
at least not in a spectacle. ]
A glitch, like you said. [ he reassures fitz, if only because he knows the man has had momentary lapses, ones that always frustrate and embarrass him. klaus has never inquired, but he has his suspicions.
of course, he has his suspicions now and it's unrelated to that. wasn't it fitz's trauma that descended upon them all weeks ago? ]
no subject
[ The reassurance is helpful. It's better that the lapse be in the network than in himself. It feels hollow to focus on it, but that's better than entertaining the alternative. ]
of course. Thank you.
I'll help with your horse. If you'd not mind me there.
no subject
(but he also knows there is nothing to be done. if their first experiment has proven anything, it's that. would it not be a small mercy, to preserve that chance that fitz doesn't know nor suspect? there's nothing klaus or he can do, no matter how he would long to.
perhaps another time.)
and WOULD HE??? ] Of course not. Have you much equine experience?

[text]
What'd you hear about me? That I'm charming, attractive, funny?
Those are usually the words people throw around when discussing me. [Totally.]
[text]
He shouldn't not reply. It could only lead to a worse situation.]
Oh, hello.
It was simply biological information.
[There, that seems safe enough. He knows that Damon is a vampire and that's all that has to be said about it right??]
[text]
Biological information?
Why are you hearing about biological information about me?
[text]
[Why is that even a question?? He doesn't know much about Damon, but he knows enough to be set on edge by this entire affair.]
[text]
That goes for a lot of people here. Are you interested in all of them or just vampires?

Ixnay on the science. If you must, tell him you know what he is from me.
PRIVATE text
Does he have a vendetta against scientists, then?
[It would make a perverse sort of sense if he did.]
PRIVATE text
so. ]
Nothing is sacred to vampires besides the secrecy we enshroud and the power we keep to lead lives untouched by the dangers and hatreds of those who would condemn us. I don't know how you know what you know, but the only way to ensure your safety now is to be vague about the particulars and clear about where you heard it.
Again: if you must, you heard it from me.
