[001; video/action; open]
[ It's not certain at first whether the video has been switched on intentionally. There isn't any direct addressing of the network. There's just the spinning image of a hallway (the fifth floor, for those of you playing at home) the occasional glimpse of long, brown hair and the unmistakable sound of delighted laughter. It slows down, eventually, comes to a complete stop and the laughter abruptly cuts off. Instead of the walls, the feed shakes and jerks as she turns it around and River's face is visible, peering directly at the little device. ]
Curious name and curious nature. The walls have secrets and she doesn't know what they are.
[ She frowns a moment, then turns to eye a window with a clearly suspicious look. ]
They're hiding something.
[ She stares for a moment or two longer, then starts to skip off down the hallway again. It takes a while for the feed to cut out, in the end it only happens because she decides to sit down outside a door in one swift movement, and drops the little tablet thing in the process. ]

She blinks back at the eyes, slightly confused frown crossing her face. ]
You're something new. Been from one side of the stars to the next, and she's never seen this. Who are you?

[ And so a staring match it is, though a small smile crosses River's face the longer she looks. He's somewhat fascinating, actually. ]
So quiet. Does he speak in tongues long since dead? Quam operor ego narro salve?
[ ...Because obviously if English doesn't work - try Latin! Flawless logic. ]

[ She really does find him fascinating, as is evident by the bright smile and the captivated stare. When he runs in the circle, she doesn't bother to make an effort to conceal it, she lets out a delighted laugh and beams even brighter. ]
Perhaps that's too old. No one speaks the dead tongue any more. No one speaks any of the tongues any more though. It's really quite sad. The words of thousands, cut down to just a text book. No one speaks them. Sometimes she does it for them...
[ But that's a tangent that's entirely unrelated to this, and after a pause where she looks a little far away, she comes back to the creature on her feed. Clearing her throat quietly, she begins to rattle off greetings of varying formality in just about every language of Earth That Was that she knows.
One of these just so happens to be Old Norse. ]

When she just keeps speaking, in other tongues he doesn't recognize, he relaxes, watching her.
Maybe she's confused. Is she lost? Maybe she's new here?
Toothless looks closely at where she seems to be, trying reason out where she is, and then picks up the comm in his mouth again, trotting back into the mansion to try and find her.]

She's not largely put off, and abandons her own device in favour of wandering up and down the hallway again. She's more interested in the mirrors this time, now that she knows what they mean and what they hold they're fascinating. She's in the process of stopping at each one and pressing her ear to them - if she listens hard enough, maybe she'll finally be able to make out what's inside there - when movement catches her eye.
He finds her though, and she's delighted. The mirror gets instantly abandoned, and instead she all but runs down to meet the dragon in the hallway. ]
He's back! Made to be outside, free and flying but he's come in here just for her. She's honoured.
[ Seriously. She even dips into a little curtsey for him and everything. ]

So, he rumbles, and then he dips into a short little bow of his own.]

Lizards aren't polite, but this one knows his manners. If only he could speak, she wants to know what thoughts dance around in a mind like that.
[ The brief hesitation is just that - only brief, and then she moves past it quickly in favour of reaching out again. Ever so carefully, she gently touches his head, all the while eyeing him closely for a reaction. ]

He likes that? Kindest lizard she's ever met. [ The first, but that's hardly relevant right now. ] Look, he's being such a good boy.
[ She really is quite enamoured with him already, honestly. It helps that standing near him doesn't result in a bombardment of loud, unavoidable thoughts and feelings. She steps a little closer, a clearly content look settling on her face as she continues to pet his head gently. ]

He leans his head into the petting, sniffling at her lightly to memorize her scent - as he did with any new Viking he encountered.]

Leaning in, she rests her head against the side of his gently before she takes in a big deep breath of her own. She can sniff too, see? That bright smile is still there when she pulls back. ]
So strange and so beautiful. How did he ever end up here all alone?

Toothless is pleased to see her smiling and happy, blissfully unaware of this being unusual. He gives her cheek a quick lick, or tries to - and, well, some of her neck, because he has a big tongue. Then he sits up again, so that they can be at eye level.]
