torchwoodteaboy: (uncertain talking)

[Ianto's always been pretty clever and pretty good at problem solving, so it doesn't take him very long to figure out how to get to the network and post a video. Once he gets there, though, he doesn't know what to say. What do you say when you're pretty sure that you should be dead and all of a sudden you find yourself in some bloody great mansion that you've never seen before in your life and you have no idea where you are or what you're doing there or how Jack and Gwen are doing back home. The only thing that Ianto's sure of is that he's dead, and so wherever he is, home is at least somewhere he can't be returning to.]

Right. [He clears his throat.] Look, I. Can anyone tell me where this is? It's just that there are some places that you expect to end up, yeah? Everything that Suzie said, that Owen and Jack said, about the Darkness, I thought. [He stops himself. He doesn't want to make assumptions. Maybe this isn't the afterlife, maybe this is... Who is he kidding, he's so out of his element and turned on his head he doesn't know what to think. He shakes his head.]

Doesn't matter. Point is, this isn't where I'm supposed to be. I was. [Dead. Dying.] I. This isn't where I expected to wake up. [He runs a hand through his hair, frustrated and well. A bit frightened at the same time.] I know that it sounds a bit mad. I feel a bit mad asking, but. [Top Secret Organization and all, and he's using it as a relative safe word.] I don't suppose anyone here has heard of Torchwood?

[After a long, trying weekend, it's a sight for sore eyes when Martha turns on her mobile and sees Ianto's face there. Her shadow has also seemed to have disappeared, seeing how it's the end of the day on Monday, which she's all too thankful for.

Once again, she knows that it's wrong for her to want familiar faces here, but it's not as if she decides that either way. If Wonderland is going to bring them in, then she may as well be happy to see them.

Though that feeling fades almost instantly when she notices how distraught Ianto looks. Why is he talking about what Owen had told them about what comes after death, as if that's where he expected to end up? No, that... it can't be.

Martha's looking more than a little concerned as she replies to his message, her brow knit with worry.]

Ianto... there's a few of us here, Jack and Owen and some others, but... [There's no easy way to ask this, and Martha feels dread swirling in her stomach as she forces the words out.] What happened to you?

[Instead of answering her question, at least directly, Ianto starts explaining an incident that she definitely doesn't remember. Martha's fairly certain she would have known if there were aliens at Thames House, thank you very much. Which means that Ianto is most definitely from her future, and that just scares her further, because he still hasn't explained what happened to him.

And it's horrible, but if what she's thinking is true, then she can't help but wonder about Jack. Owen and Tosh, that had been bad enough, but what if he ends up losing Ianto too? How would he ever bear anything like that? Martha ignores the stinging in her eyes and the lump in her throat, pushing past it.]

You should have called me. If something that serious was going on, you should have called me.

[They hadn't wanted her to get involved, or be put in danger. Martha understands that, she honestly does, and yet it kills her to realize that Ianto (and maybe others) died and she apparently was off doing who-knows-what. Ianto had trailed off before saying what she was doing, come to think of it.

It's difficult to know how to take it all in when she doesn't have all the details, but Martha works for UNIT to deal with alien threats, so she can't imagine what she would have been doing that she would have been unaware of all this. She clenches her hand around her mobile and then lets out a sigh, trying to calm herself. She needs to be there for Ianto right now.]

I don't think my timeline is vital enough that all that would happen, but I understand if you don't want to say too much. But you... you weren't expecting to wake up anywhere at all, were you? [Yes, she already knows. With the way he's been behaving, it's rather clear.]

[That sound he makes causes Martha's throat to close up. She closes her eyes for a moment, unclenches her fists and then clenches them again. Here's someone else who they hadn't been able to save, and while Ianto isn't her responsibility, that doesn't change how she feels about it.

Jack. She's going to need to find Jack, and soon, if possible.]

I'm so sorry.

[It's the exact words that Owen had given her when this had come up as a result of their shadows -- or, not exactly the same, but close enough. Martha hates this idea that every Torchwood operative just expects to die young. It's not right, it's not fair, and part of her is frustrated with Jack for ever allowing this to happen to his subordinates, even if it's not strictly his fault. He didn't make them join, and they had all known the risks, but...]

That doesn't make it any easier to bear. I... suppose you can see this place as a second chance, for what that's worth. You should find the others.

Yes, Jack and Owen.

[Martha's well aware of the special connection that Jack and Ianto have, though, and so she isn't surprised to see that Jack's his priority. She hasn't seen Jack for the past few days, but that's not necessarily out of the ordinary in this place. It's probably easiest to just give Ianto his room number.]

He's on the sixth floor, room 27. [It is a little shocking that Jack hasn't contacted Ianto already, but maybe he hasn't been checking his mobile.]

[It's good to hear that Owen's going to be there to take care of this, although Martha can already think of a number of different ways that that could go horribly wrong. Owen isn't the most sensitive person, and if he finds out about what happened to Ianto, how's he going to react?

Torchwood politics, she tells herself. She shouldn't butt in too much, but it's hard not to when she knows them all and when Jack is such a dear friend.]
That's odd. [There's no denying that Jack should have spoken up by now.] Let me know if you can't find him, we can always go searching together.

[personal profile] selfrespecting 2013-07-01 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Martha's touched that Ianto would ask. She feels that the two of them got along rather well during her small stint at Torchwood, but it all would have gone a bit better if things hadn't gone so out of control with Owen's death and everything else.

Still, Ianto's definitely a friend by her estimation, and he's probably in need of a kinder approach as compared to whatever he'll get from Owen.]
Of course! Let me know when you're finished with Owen and I'll come find you.
selfrespecting: (listening)

feel free to time skip to later and have him call/text her!

[personal profile] selfrespecting 2013-07-04 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[As for Martha, she tends to make friends easily, and Ianto's someone that she finds it simple to get along with. Quiet, but he's a good listener, and much more clever and sharp-witted than most would think at first.

She nods and ends the feed, keeping her mobile on hand in case he contacts her later in the day.]

[personal profile] selfrespecting 2013-07-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[That seems to be Owen's way of re-initiating contact with her. Martha frowns down at the screen and his face, because he looks completely miserable. She can't blame him, when he'd just been dead and now he's stuck in some sadistic version of Wonderland without Jack.

But really, where has Jack gone? Did he honestly disappear from this place right as Ianto arrived? Martha can hardly stomach that. It's not fair.]

I'm sorry, Ianto. I haven't seen him either.
selfrespecting: (worried)

[personal profile] selfrespecting 2013-07-16 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Just like Owen to head off without even an explanation of where he's going. Martha fights the urge to roll her eyes, because it won't do much good at this point.]

Not busy at all, Ianto. I'd be happy to come by. Where are you now?

[If Owen's of any use at all, then he helped Ianto find a room for himself. If not, then Martha can do that herself, but she waits for his response first.]

[personal profile] selfrespecting 2013-08-16 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I can come find you there and if we want to get out of the cave of dreariness that's Owen's room, we can do that. [Martha quirks a smile and winks at Ianto. It might be for the best if she tries to keep things light, at least until she gets there.]

I'll see you soon! [And then she ends the feed.]

[ooc: I'm thinking maybe we can end this here with some handwaving that they talked, and continue on with the other thread we have?]
