Hi! My name’s Jon Kent. I’m looking for my mom and dad. My dad’s name is Clark, and my mom is Lois. My dad looks a lot like me, just bigger? My mom has brown hair. I’m sure they’re fine, but I haven’t been able to find them yet.

( the grin shifts into something a bit more sheepish, free hand raising to adjust the big, bulky glasses sitting on his nose. )

And uh. . how do I know which room’s mine? Why are there ogres outside--?

Well, gee, if you're really Clark's son I should look familiar since half my DNA comes from him. I'm his clone.

[Why wouldn't Clark's son know that? He knows Kal barely likes acknowledging him, but last they talked Clark had left him with his parents and his dog. He didn't think he was that ashamed of Kon's existence.]

( oh. well that definitely explains why this guy looks familiar; if he had a mirror, he'd probably stop to compare his face to his, since he knows that he himself looks. . pretty similar to his dad. he squints at the video feed, looks real close at kon for a few moments. )

Half his DNA? Would that make you kinda like my half brother, or half my dad?

[........wait shit he didn't prepare for hard questions like this.]

Uh, I guess closer to half-brother. But Clark's not my dad. [He never wanted to be.] I don't have parents. I came out of a test tube.

( tbh he's picturing a full grown kon floating around in of the tiny tubes they use in science classes. it's pretty funny. but far from the point. )

That sucks, I'm sorry.

Yeah, that sounds like something Clark's son would say. [Cloning sucks. And Kon wouldn't exist without it, which makes it a little hard to condemn that whole-heartedly.]

Well, I'm Superboy. And I'm here no matter how much it sucks.

( being a clone sucks. he can't imagine growing up without his parents--or without his dad to help him learn how to use his newfound abilities over this past year; not having that support would suck.

Hey, can you fly?

[A part of him is annoyed that the kid is good-natured enough to just be like SURE WE CAN BOTH BE SUPERBOY. He's annoyed at Clark for having a kid he clearly loves and sees as his son even though he's just as related to Clark as Kon is and none of that is this kid's fault but it makes Kon want to fight with something. But this kid just has to be too nice for it to be him.]

Yeah, of course. I got all Superman's powers, plus a little something that's all my own. [Except freeze breath, but who really cares about freeze breath, right?] Can't you?

( yo listen: it's not jon's fault new earth is all kinds of weird, and that the superboy title was empty just in time for him to swoop in and grab it. maybe he can start going by "superkid" or something while he's here, since this guy's already superboy. )

I just started developing my powers about a year ago, and I haven't been able to fly yet. I did levitate once for a little while. . that was pretty cool, but I haven't been able to take off yet. ( it's disappointing! but he guesses the super strength and speed and freeze breath is all cool too. ) I don't even know if I'll ever be able to fly, since I'm half human. My powers kinda came and went as they wanted for a while.

Is it fun to fly? What's your name? What else can you do? Are you part of the Justice League?

[........this kid is so freaking enthusiastic. Kon doesn't know how to handle it. He just kind of stares as the kid rambles.]

Wow, you ask a lot of questions. Um, yeah, flying is great. I'm Kon-El. [A beat.] Conner Kent. I've got tactile telekinesis, and no, I'm with the Teen Titans.

( that's fine, he can always ramble more. )

Connor Kent and Kon-El? Which name do you like better? How old're you? Da--Robin wouldn't let me join the Teen Titans because I'm not a teen yet, which is kinda dumb. What can you do with tactile telekinesis?

[A LOT OF QUESTIONS.]

Call me Kon. Not really doing the secret identity thing here. The clone thing makes my age kind of complicated, how old are you?

[But hey, one of those questions was about tactile telekinesis, and if there's one way to get Kon on your good side, it's showing interest in his power. He grins.]

Well, basically it's like this forcefield sorta thingy that lets me manipulate stuff I touch. Good for blowing stuff up. Or keeping stuff together.

( no one tells him anything, okay. he's gotta ask all the questions when he's around someone who does answer them. )

I'm ten. Could you show me sometime? That sounds cool!

Yeah I... I could do that.

[The enthusiasm is sort of nice, but mostly just confusing. It's so unlike how Clark acts towards him ever that he doesn't know how to handle it.]

You... really haven't heard of me? Like at all?

But--uh, it doesn't mean you weren't there. I started keeping up with news stories after I got a smart phone, but Dad didn't tell me he was Superman until about a year ago. I guess we came from a different Earth? There was a different Superman who was Superman where we live, for a while. But he. . died a little while ago. I grew up on a farm, and didn't know anything about Dad or his past. He never introduced me to anyone in our family, on either side. I didn't meet Kara until a couple months ago, either, so.

( he lifts his shoulders, before they slump back down. honestly, given how much he's been kept in the dark, kon-el could very well exist back home and jon just doesn't know it yet. )

[Just like Clark, keeping his secret ID under wraps, even from people who are related to him.]

Yeah, but you would have heard of me. I mean, I'm pretty well known. I'm Superboy.

Yeah, but I'm Superboy back on the Earth I live on.

( and obviously he has heard of himself. )

I'm sorry. I could be wrong, though--a lot of weird stuff's been happening back home. My memories are a bit weird, too.

Yeah and the whole "other universes" thing. Always makes it more complicated.

I know that something weird went on a while ago. . waay back when I was still a baby, and my mom and dad and me ended up in a whole 'nother Earth from where we were from and stuff. And then recently they merged together with the Lois and Clark of the Earth we were on who were dead. . now I kinda have two sets of memories? But not really. I try not to think about it; makes my head hurt.

But no one really explains things to me so.
