Entry # 004 [Video]
[Honestly, a text post would've sufficed enough, but perhaps for the context of this post, a video might be a bit more beneficial. So you get a blue robot staring at the screen pensively.]
Ah, greetings, Wonderland, this is Turing. I'm here to inquire about something...
I have noticed that some of the past events I have experienced throughout my time here has had some element of combat thrown into the mix, so to speak. Not all of them mind you, just some. Just this past event, you all saw it, all of those ogres, ice giants and dark elves storming into the mansion, and you must have also saw a multitude of the guests here fighting back. I, unfortunately, was unable to lend a hand in that time of crisis, solely because I have had no combat experience myself.
I may be sapient, but I am still a ROM, or I suppose a robot in layman's terms. I don't specifically exist to assist, but there's still a voice in the back of my mind urging me to help out however possible. If, in Wonderland, this means that I must become skilled in some weaponry or combat techniques, then so be it.
So, I'm posting this video as a call for suggestions and help: I am interested in learning how to properly defend myself and protect others while I am here in Wonderland. What would be the best way to accomplish this? Getting into specifics...I'd like to be skilled in ranged weaponry, say, a laser pistol, for example. My partner, Alys, was given a laser pistol to use in case of emergencies back where I come from, and they were able to use it with relative ease.
I will take any and all suggestions into account. Thank you for your time.

I have experience with multiple forms of weaponry. I would be willing to instruct you, should you desire it.

Data acquired indicates that there are training facilities.

[Turing's face looks a lot more...robotic now. So does their voice.]
Now sending information...
[A cute little envelope symbol appears on the front of Turing's system next for a while...then a little ping is heard!]
There we go! I should have sent the information about the laser pistol your way. Reference photos, the schematics of the pistol, everything you should need to know.

[Not just the schematics here, but that brief change in facial expression the robot had when sending the message.]
Yeah, I've got it. Do you have any questions for anythin' that's not covered here before I get buildin' on it?
no subject
Hmm...ah! If there could be a switch that determines the power level of the laser in question, that would be fantastic. I'd much rather stun than kill, but at least I want the option to be there if I have no other choice.

[She remembers getting into the ring with them. They weren't half-bad, to be honest.]
You want more instruction on real weapons, though, I could help with that.
Further instruction I feel would benefit me greatly, so I'll take you on your offer, Commander Shepard.
[She smiles, hoping that looks reassuring.]
What sort of firearms are you looking to train in? More like the stuff you used on the Citadel?
That would be excellent, Commander. Even if you don't have experience teaching, you still have experience with weaponry, and I'd say that's more than enough.
Indeed, I liked the pistol that I used while I was at the Citadel, at it was similar to the laser pistol my friend used back home. Using more lightweight weapons would most likely be of the best use to me due to my stature.
[Frankly, the lack of electronics in the 21st century ones are gonna be weird, but they're all still point-and-shoot. How hard can it be?]
We can figure it out together.
[Well, that's a sentence Turing never expected to say.]
Thank you, Commander, for your continued help. I appreciate it, truly!
[For them, she figures maybe a pistol of some kind. Revolvers are usually harder to hold, even if they do look cooler.]
But no problem. Just stay safe, alright? They are still weapons.
[They then nod.]
Of course. My guard will be up the entire time I'm practicing, don't you worry.
[They were plenty cautious at the Citadel, and those were fake.]
Hit me up whenever you'd like.
I've actually never checked out the shooting ranges here, surprisingly enough! Perhaps it's just because I've been too engrossed in all of the different books in the library, trying to figure out as much as I can about Wonderland. That...really should've been one of the factors I needed to prioritize first.
Haha, see, I've spent too much time abusing the closets.
[Suddenly, an idea! An exclamation point appears on the front of Turing's system.]
That's right! I remember a video you and Ms. Clementine posted on the network the other day showcasing the destruction room! I should look into going in there and whacking things with a bat a try, although given how my head is made of glass, I'm unsure if this is a good idea...
[Oh man that exclamation point is adorable. Turing's whole emote system thing is adorable.]
Oh, yeah, you totally should! I bet there's head protection you could wear. Uh...like maybe a hard hat? Like a hard hat for your entire head. Maybe just a welder's mask or something...
[Here's another cute emotion for you, Mae - an ellipse appears on the front of Turing's system!]
I don't suppose there are any helmets in the destruction room, is there? Although I could try the closets, they'd at least provide me with...some sort of protection.
Hmm, maybe we should provide helmets as well as eye protection. But yeah, the closets should help.
Let me see...
[Suddenly, Turing leaves the screen. A few seconds pass...and they return back with a football helmet!]
We're correct, the closets do indeed provide proper protection! Although I can just tell that all I'm going to be thinking about is that I should be playing in a football team whenever I wear this, haha.
[Sometimes she does like this place.]
Hey, nice! You know, maybe that's not a bad idea, though. I was on softball team in high school and it was fun for--for awhile.
[Plus, that means that Turing has more information to store in their database!]
Oh, softball! I've never played it before, but I've read up on the basic rules of the game while going through my initial search on the mesh after my creation. Who knew that hitting a ball with a bat would be so addicting? What would you say is your favorite part of the sport when you were still playing it?
[SHE IS GOING TO BECOME A WEAPONS DEMON, SO HELP HER.]
It's pretty much exactly like baseball except with like--some differences. Also my favorite part of the sport was definitely just like, hitting balls.
[A mental image of Mae wielding all sorts of weapons and doing parkour off of the mansion appears in their head. She does have a point there. If you were to become skilled at weaponry and self defense, then events shouldn't be a problem at all! At least, the ones where a copious amount of fighting is involved.]
I think I see where you're going with this! Well, then, I believe that if you put in the effort and seek out assistance from those that are experts in their craft, then I believe you'll become a weapon master! Truthfully, I just want to see if I can defend and protect with a ranged weapon, although if the situation calls for it...then I suppose I too will try and become a weapons master.
[They grin sheepishly.]
Haha, well, I'd say you picked out an excellent sport then! I suppose you can also get the same sort of satisfaction with tennis or...well, pretty much any other sport that has to do with a ball, but I would assume there's nothing more satisfying than that cracking sound of a ball hitting the bat at top speed.
I've gotta track down everyone here who knows about weapons. I'm gonna do it. Holy shit.
[She grins.]
Yeah, tennis definitely isn't the same. I don't think there's any sports where you have to intentionally destroy things, but I'd probably be good at it.
I'm more of a hand-to-hand kind of guy, myself, but we've definitely got the facilities for that kind of weapon training, if you're really interested. The training center is pretty well-equipped, you could practice with just about anything you wanted in there.
[They look up in thought. Hmmm...]
...I wonder how I would fare in hand-to-hand combat? I was absolutely not designed for that function, but there may be some events in the future where weapons are unavailable to us...
[Teddy smiles brightly, encouraging.]
Even if you're not sure if it's right for you, it wouldn't hurt to learn at least a little bit. Just in case. You never know when you might need it.
[Turing smiles back in thought.]
I remember a friend back from my world, Detective Rivers. Not only was she skilled in using a laser pistol, but was also excellent in hand to hand combat. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to take a page from her and also learn hand to hand combat as well. Besides, you're absolutely right, who knows what Wonderland will throw at us in the future. We might need to rely on fist fighting instead of weapons!
It's settled, then - I will have to check this training room out. Thank you, ah...what is your name?
[Even if it was just by making a suggestion. His smile turns a touch sheepish as he rubs at the back of his neck, realizing he'd glossed over introductions.]
Sorry-- it's Teddy. Teddy Altman. It sounds like you've been keeping yourself pretty busy since you got here, huh?
[They then laugh, a bit sheepishly.]
Heh heh, yeah...I suppose it's because I'm a robot that I'm so interested in learning more about this place. It's in my code to take in as much information as I can! Besides, Wonderland is filled with so many secrets...I can't not attempt to reveal them!
[Neat. Obviously, that had been made pretty clear with mentions of programming, but somehow the word 'database' really makes it click, makes it seem more real, not to mention what follows.]
You're programmed to want to learn. That's pretty cool, if you ask me.
Indeed! I am a robot, more specifically, a ROM. ROMs stand for Relationship and Organizational Managers, so you can conclude that I am usually designed to manage a relationship with whomever I am talking to, as well as keep track of any information that can help whomever needs it.
[Oh geez, now they're going into lecture mode.]
I am a bit different from other ROMs, however. I was created with sapience in mind, and I have a need of learning new things whenever possible. Additionally, being sapient, I can control what I want to do without following a line of code! Pretty neat, huh?
