[Maggie looks a bit paler and much more exhausted than usual, but puts on as warm and chipper a front as she can. She's clearly sitting on the floor as she posts this.]
Hello again, Wonderland! While it's good to see all of your lovely faces, those nine flights of stairs up to my room are a considerably less welcome sight. Would someone be so kind as to help me up to my bed? A couple of someones if necessary? I've had an eventful week and I'm not at my best.
Once that's managed, I intend to stay there for a few days at barest minimum.
I'll be hosting horror movie marathons tomorrow night and the night after, in room 969, barring Wonderland-interference. Prior acquaintance not required! If horror isn't your cup of tea, feel free to stop by during the afternoons instead. Incidentally, non-metaphorical cups of tea will be available, or your hot or caffeinated beverage of choice. Hope to see you soon, darlings!
((Spam tags for movie night or afternoon visits also welcome!))
[Private to Mahir, Shaun, and Georgia]
[More seriously, dropping any pretense:]
How long was I gone? Let me find my bed, and then all of you get over here before you ask what you've missed back home.
[She doesn't want to do this more than once.]

"I'm glad to hear it," he says finally. "Must be a hell of a story."

To be fair, Maggie isn't actually trying hard to hide things. It would be hard to do, what with how little she actually intends to get up and move in the next few days.
"Massive government conspiracy, bullet wound, minor organ damage that will be alright healing up on its own. I've already had all the medical attention I need." The short version of the story.

He nods a little at the brief story of her recent adventures. It's obviously the short version, and he's can tell she'd rather not go into detail right now. He can't blame her. It sounds like a lot, and a lot to go into when there's a classic horror movie about to start.
"Can your minor organ damage handle popcorn?"
no subject
"Yes, please!" Maggie chirps. As if she'd turn down popcorn. "My liver. No alcohol for awhile, but popcorn is absolutely fine. There's some under the counter over there, just put it in the popper."
"Thank you, Tim." More than the movie or the popcorn, Maggie just doesn't want to be left alone right now.

"Any time. I mean that."

"That goes both ways. I've never been fond of empty houses, and you have a standing invitation." Maggie gets lonely, and she hates it.
Even within the mansion, with all of its residents, she hasn't established the same network of contacts as she has back home. And the lack of isolation means everyone heads back to their own rooms rather than spending a few days to make the long drive worthwhile.

"Good." The mansion may not be an empty house, but the only part of it that's hers is usually empty. She doesn't have people sprawled over couches and laying claim to every guest room bed for days on end. Her room is too quiet.
"I think I need a dog. Have I ever mentioned how many are waiting for me back home? I live out in the woods in the middle of nowhere, but I have a steady stream of houseguests, and on the rare occasion there isn't anyone over, I'm involved in rescue for overbred purebreds. I have two dozen epileptic miniature bulldogs."
It's exceedingly odd, to go for months without ever having to wrestle multiple canines for couch or bed space. Usually they're constantly underfoot. Maggie misses tripping over them. "Not now, of course. And getting down nine flights of stairs for walks multiple times a day is hardly an appealing prospect even when I'm healthy."

Maggie shakes her head. "All my dogs were rescues. Even setting aside my negative feelings about the irresponsible breeding that created them, I don't want to ask the closet to give me an animal in a place where I have a lot less control over its safety." She's an incredibly responsible dog owner.
"I would take one if it were left behind, but it has to be under forty pounds. That's the minimum weight for Kellis Amberlee viral amplification. Above forty pounds, an animal could become dangerous if it picks up my virus, so I would have to be more careful around it than I'd like to be with my own dog."
She can be careful about her interactions with other people's dogs. That's only polite and sane. It gets several degrees of difficulty harder when she has to live with one, though.

Maggie wouldn't be too picky under the circumstances, but if he's asking what she wants... "Given a choice, none of the tiny fluffy purse dogs. Nothing too high strung or yappy. Preferably no puppies, especially if... how does aging work in Wonderland? I seem to recall hearing that it doesn't. God save me from perpetual puppies. Adult dogs only."
She shrugs. "I love my bulldogs. And I adore big dogs, even if I can't own one. I got to spend a lot of time with a mad scientist's mastiff. He was a delight. I can deal with inadequate training or most non-aggressive personality quirks. I'm used to training mine; all of them respond when called by name, or it would be chaos."
She made sure to take a number of dog training classes as she got more involved in bulldog rescue.

He blinks when she gives a bit more detail about her dogs back home. "Two dozen and all trained? Are you some kind of dog whisperer?"
no subject
"I don't envy you being stuck at fifteen," Maggie tells him. "Though you're a much more tolerable fifteen year old than I was. I was in the middle of a frivolous party phase, which I fortunately outgrew."
And she smiles, because it's a lot of work to manage her pets. "I've taken plenty of of classes, with specific dogs and in general. I stay up to date on training techniques. And it helps that I work from home, with very flexible hours. I can rearrange my schedule to allow for plenty of time with them."
no subject
"I can see why you miss having them around." Wonderland is nothing but free time in a lot of ways, and she's used to being able to spend that with her dogs. Her space must feel very empty without them.
no subject
"God, yes. I have to feel bad for the preteens and young teens."
Back on the subject of dogs, she tells Tim, "I wouldn't want many here. Not when events can affect us physically or mentally, I don't have my usual well-fenced yard, and so many stairs are involved in getting out. But it's entirely too quiet when I'm in this room by myself."
