[The feed starts out of focus and when it comes back into focus, the view isn't much better. Mostly just a glass of amber liquid, but then these days Seth isn't much seen without one. Not unless a certain friend has been saddled with talking him down again. After a moment though the view shifts, showing the man himself. Midnight black suit, snowy shirt, even his tie is neat and knotted just show.
So much for predictions that after a while he'd start dressing down, though the girl that made the prediction had been shipped home so that might have something to do with it.
Anyone that knows the area though might recognize a booth at Lux. The same one his child self had occupied a few weeks earlier.]
Right so it hit me just now that I've been in this place over a year, which given I haven't stayed in a place longer than about six months since I was eight would be impressive. You know if not for the fact that this is about as mandatory as my last stint, and without the fun knowledge of a release date but with just about as many visit from my brother so that evens out.
[Even without Richie there, Seth's taking jabs at him. Not that he could fault Richie not visiting him in prison, but logic has no place in Seth's rantings.]
Whatever though. Most seem to keep a calendar here and the holidays and all. Christmas. Thanksgiving. What? Arbor Day's coming up, right? What about the rest though? Given we stay our same youthful, beautiful selves [He bites back saying Grunkles not included because dude, what even with the fez] does the rest matter but for ourselves? Do we count the years, or just the celebration of being alive to be stuck in this place? What about anniversaries and other dates from before?
Or does it all just become when you got here, and when all the people that matter left?
[Because for some barely functioning alcoholics without jobs to distract them, that's what's sticking in their heads, apparently.]

I love my dogs, but I'm a big proponent of responsible pet adoption. Epilepsy isn't a known risk for mini bulldogs. If you want one, you accept that risk and take care of the dog when predictable health problems crop up. I'm not necessarily against responsible crossbreeding for the dogs' health, either. Breed purity isn't worth that. You can keep most of a dog's traits without making them suffer for it. [Can you tell she spends a fair bit of time volunteering as an advocate for a rescue organization in addition to all her actual pet adoptions?]
Emu burgers are delicious. I'll content myself with those, thank you.
Are you hungry now? I could meet you at the kitchen, though you'll have to wait a bit for food to appear. [Seeing as they've been sitting here talking about food, it seems only fair.]

You've spoken on this before, haven't you? You know, you could take in the pets here that others leave behind when they get sent home.
[He knows it happens from time to time anyway.]
Well, all this talk of food? Maybe. Though are you planning to feed me an emu burger? I can't promise I won't make faces.

A few small dogs would be nice. I'm a walking public health risk, and I'd just as soon not take in any above amplification weight. Plus I live on the ninth floor with no fenced in yard, so I can't handle nearly as many as at home.
[Maggie laughs.] We'll save that for another time. Let's stick to empanadas for today. Are you going to keep me company while I cook or should I just give you an ETA?

[Which he takes advantage of as often as he can. Why not?]
I wondered before, talking to Shaun and George about it, I wondered if this place could help you guys with that. It seems to be doing a lot of other things, so why not that?
I've been told I need to be more social with people. Cooking counts as that, right?

Could help us with what, the virus? [Maggie pauses a second, then continues:] Part of the news I brought back from home this time was that we can't cure it. That is, the CDC has already found a cure, but our immune systems are so closely entwined with the virus by now that we go into immune collapse without it. Everyone they cured died. I'd just as soon not mess around with Kellis Amberlee.
[It's a big enough story to explain, at least in part, why Maggie got shot during an attempted cover up.]
It absolutely counts, unless you do it by yourself in an empty kitchen. And I'd love company.

[He sighs, shaking his head.] Really, I'm sorry.
Then sure, that works.

Thanks, Seth.
To be fair, the CDC didn't create KA originally. They did try to conceal it during the first outbreaks, though. A CDC scientist took over his 11 year old daughter's blog to get word out via unofficial channels. We consider him one of the biggest heroes of that time period. It's also part of what fueled the trend toward online journalism. Plenty of people didn't trust mainstream media anymore after the Rising. [In other words, Maggie's job is owed to the fact that bloggers were the original source of real information when the dead started walking.]
I'm more upset about all the people who have died because of their bullshit attempts to cover up the truth than about anything else they've done.
Meet you at the stairs?

[Not in his mind but then Seth was a judgmental bastard who wanted someone that he could blame for things.]
Interesting how you guys got your start. From a preteen's blog. [He's definitely teasing, though it's the truth. That doesn't stop it from amusing him and it shows in his smile. A good start over how he was feeling when this talk started.] Can't blame you on that though. It's always about those they get killed.
Sure. Give me a minute to fix my suit, but on my way.
