So...

For those of you that lived with other people back home, how do you get used to the quiet here? I mean, like there's all the craziness and madness and all but like at night, when things are all slow, and it's just you... Whaddya do?

I read, or... I write. Sometimes I play draughts--chess or checkers, maybe a game of cards if anyone is willing. I adopted a horse here and I look after him, or if I'm feeling particularly restless, I'll head to the firing range. Even in the wee hours.

I'm accustomed to the sounds and routine of an army camp. It helps to find a routine of your own, but... that doesn't always work.

You could always immerse yourself in a new hobby. There's almost no limit to what you can do here but I suppose that's what makes it so frustrating.

Well, I've got an obnoxious roommate now, which could be a solution for you too, but before that... I made a routine for myself. I made sure I got my training in, that I cooked every day, that I spent a certain amount of time reading and finding new books-- that sort of thing. If you've got stuff planned to do every day, it makes the hours go by faster.

Or is this more of an insomnia thing?

You can't sleep? Or do you mean the times when no one else is really around?

I have a roommate, sort of, and that helps.

Music, movies, bug people on the network. I'm not going to lie, I think the quiet's nice most of the time...

[No guards, no obnoxious cellmates, no people in the rest of the block that won't shut the hell up, she really can't complain about that.]

...but sometimes I need a break from it too.

If you want to hang out at the Diner any time again, just let us know.

For one, I try not to take it for granted.

Well, I'm used to being alone, so I guess it doesn't bother me as much. But I read? Books can make a difference to any life, in my opinion, if you let them.

I played video games, or went out to find someone to hang out with. . but now my mom's living with me! So even when I'm lonely I'm not really that alone, and I know I can just go find her and stuff.

Why? Are you lonely?
