( MARK III ; VIDEO )
[ this video is going to start in a disorienting way. the device is moving and rather rapidly, at that. ]
so three things.
[ and then, a loud thud as iron man lands. the mask is pulled back and beneath is - well. you're all used to tony stark by now, right? ]
firstly, these guys -
[ he looks back - the robots of the iron legion are flying behind him and out of view ]
are still off limits. if you see them flying, don't engage. they won't stop. they have one route of patrol and then they're come back to the mansion. I've seen some of you trying to talk to them. it's pointless. I haven't programmed them to answer back.
[ seems useless, really. robots having lengthy conversations. ]
secondly, the war thing. big fun. I love the whole preparation thing we have going on. if you need anything, shout. I'll see what I can do.
[ oh and - ]
thirdly. I'm running a little behind schedule but despite the weird paradox of time and space, my aunt had her birthday this week and she really would love a few hearty 'happy birthdays', presents, songs. she loves songs. adores music. her name's peggy carter, you know, about this height, dark hair, British accent.
[ he's still moving as he talks ]
cake and soda in the kitchen, guys. no alcohol though, she's only seventeen. gotta keep to the rule book.
[ and then to add insult to injury, you might catch a quick glimpse of the kitchen and the stuff on the counter before he logs off. ]

cake and soda in the kitchen, guys. no alcohol though, she's only seventeen. gotta keep to the rule book.

peggy goes to the pantry and summons -- OH YES -- a bottle of bourbon. try and stop her, tony. ]
I'm cancelling your movie night tonight. You're a child in desperate need of some consequences.
action »
[ is he taking pictures? he is. but he's quick to pocket his phone and dance away from her reach ]
still, though are tough consequences. especially since that movie night is a debt. so you still owe me one.
action »
[ MORE THAN.
let him busy himself with his phone, she's too busy drinking straight from the bottle. ]
action »
[ good lord, what could it be. ]
action »
[ it's only barely a question. ]
action »
no punching?
action »
[ no punching. ]
I promise.
[ not in public, at any rate. ]
action »
call this my birthday present. this way, you don't have to think of one.
action »
she chokes up for a moment, only to quickly clear her throat and squirm to extricate herself from his armani-clad arms.
peggy fusses over a curl; she behaves like he's done something awful, but much of the fire has left her voice. ]
Dammit, Tony. Now everyone here will start thinking I'm the hugging sort.
action »
[ he winks, quick and full of amusement. it means something, yes. maybe he likes celebrating the fact that she's still here. he almost forgot that he ever lost her. ]
at least you're not middle-naming me anymore. figured how to read the files on the chip, did we?
action »
[ so, you know, his. ]
action »
[ a firm, very serious nod ]
I always knew you cared.
action »
[ perhaps she's playing up her complaint. just a little. just enough to keep him hooked and distracted and here among people. whatever else she might be feeling, she's grateful to see him being social.
even if it's at her expense. ]
action »
[ and his mood must be really exceptionally good, for his next words are even lighter. ]
come on. I'll put on a really good song you'd like if you agreed to dance.
action »
Besides. I thought you never danced.
[ assuming, of course, that his invitation meant a dance with him. ]
action »
[ which means that this time the ball is fantastically out of tony's court. in all honesty, with most of the women in his life? that's exactly how he likes it. ]
action »
[ and she's not outright forgiven him yet -- so perhaps peggy sees fit to negotiate a little. to make this work more in her favour than in his. ]
How about -- how about you owe me one. Next proper formal event, you owe me a dance. When I'm dressed for it and when we're not in the ruddy kitchens.
action »
[ and maybe his tone hints at a bit of a surprise? it's hard to tell when the man is hiding behind his best suit and his sunglasses. ]
proper. formal?
[ he grabs a cupcake and shrugs ]
you got it.
action »
[ a certain motivation -- and better overall feeling than the one caged up inside peggy just now. she's too unnerved by the party, too displeased with the display.
she watches the cupcake in his hand, all colourful icing. ]
Not to mention a dash of dignity.
[ besides, he saw that memory on repeat: dancing is no simple thing for her, clearly. ]
action »
alright. next formal - event.
[ he doesn't object to the concept, not really. ]
action »
[ oh, yep, see, she can't go all party without bringing up the war. ]
But I'll save the first spot on my dance card for you all the same.
action »
[ and maybe tony's counting on it, too. the thought of a long while is comforting in a way that ought to be paradoxical. tony is working tirelessly on finding a way out but getting out would come at a price and tony isn't ready to pay just yet.
he's awful at goodbyes. ]
speaking of the other side, work calls.
[ he winks ]
am I dismissed?
action »
to that end, she ignores his wink and leans in (leans up) for a very brief but very public kiss on his cheek. aunty peggy's prerogative. the hug had been one thing, but this is quite another. he completely and utterly deserves it. ]
Go on. Get. Before I change my mind and break your arm instead.
action »
[ he wipes at his cheek with the back of his sleeve, the way a child would and it's all dramatic, it's all an act, a cover for something that goes soft for a second. ]
disgusting, that is. have you left lipstick on me? what am I, eight?
[ unacceptable. ]
action »
I would've said ten. But, alright, if you insist: you're certainly acting like an eight year old. And this fête is certainly fit for one.
