entranceway | Log: day 57 (video)

[The camera feed comes on showing a somewhat skewed scene of half-built robots and several large monitors surround a central control panel. Then the view rotates as Entrapta adjusts the device. Now the background shows a rather tall, deep red crystal that has wires and cords attached to it.

In front of it all, Entrapta looks very happy, despite the fact that she also looks like she hasn't eaten in some time. There's just been too much to do!]

Okay. It's day 57! [Yes, she's been keeping count of the days since she arrived.] And I've been making a lot of progress in my work!

[For a second it might seem like she's going to be using this as a sort of video diary, but she quickly moves away from that nonsense to something more pertinent.]

What I need to know is how energy flows from this side of Wonderland to the other side. If it does at all. But it must, if the Core is able to process data from this side.

[She gestures with her hair as she speaks, the ends of the strands looking perhaps alarmingly like fingers and hands.]

If I can figure out that transfer of energy, I can probably connect the black garnet [a gesture over her shoulder at the crystal] directly into the energy source! I could potentially divert power directly from the Core and it could have all sorts of potential uses!

[For a second she looks like she's going to go on about some of those potential uses, but then her stomach growls loudly enough for the mic to pick it up. She falters and then looks kind of embarrassed for a second.]

Um, but first I should probably eat something.

[With that, she reaches out with one piece of hair to turn the video off.]

I am a princess, but I don't have a runestone. Only the elemental princesses do, really. But other people can draw power from runestones, if they can figure out how.

Cool. Do you know how to draw power from it, then? Is that why you’re hair’s…. [He waves a hand.] The way it is?

Oh no, my hair's always been like this!

I know how to draw power into and through the black garnet. I'm still not sure about tapping into the stone's innate power, though.

[That honestly raises more questions than it answers. Why is her hair like that?

He waits a beat for her to continue explaining, but she... doesn't. Dipper isn't sure if it would be rude to ask again or not. So he lets her change the subject.]

Hmm. So it's like, a conductor and a battery all in one.

Exactly! At home, it could draw power from a network of other runestones. Or from the planet itself! That's why I think it should be able to draw power from the Core.

[She coils her hair around herself to create a sort of chair she can lean back in.]

But I know there's a way to draw power out of it, too. There was someone at home who could do it and use it to attack people. I'm not totally sure if that power comes from the garnet itself, though, or if that's also being drawn from the network at large. If it's the latter, it's doing it in such small amounts that it makes no difference.

Hmm.

[It's complicated and interesting and Dipper loves this kind of weird problem. Even if runestone elemental magic science is a little outside his usual area of expertise.]

Is there a way to measure the power without trying to draw it out?

The power of the black garnet? I could probably come up with something.

[She brings one hand to her chin as she considers.]

It's possible that it goes through natural power fluctuations. If it does, then it would be a simple matter to measure when it spikes and dips. But if its power holds steady...hm.

It'll tell us something. Plus, what kind of power source dioesn't fluctuate at all? Especially natural power sources. There's gotta be some kind of change.

I mean, the black garnet is kind of magical, so it won't necessarily follow all the rules.

[The rules of what, Entrapta?]

But it's worth trying anyway!
