[Armin often visits the shoreline, so it's not unusual at all to meet him here. He sits with his legs tucked up to his chest, boots off, waves lapping at his feet. Sometimes for hours.]

[Those who know him might notice one small difference however; his clothing. His uniform looked more or less the same, but he was missing his green cape, and the emblem on his jacket was not blue-and-white wings, but two crossed swords.]

[He looks to his communicator at his side. His eyes, normally so bright with intelligence and curiosity seem unsettlingly dead.]

No one had ever told me... Is it true that this is the ocean?

I wouldn't know what to mean in the first place. I've never seen it.

[ Okay, that's certainly enough to stop Jack in his tracks. ]

[Armin shakes his head.]

What kinda place don't have an ocean?

[ He sounds almost disgusted by the idea. ]

...I live within a large, walled area for... [He doesn't feel like explaining this at all right now. Armin itches at a scar that runs up his neck.] Where I come from, there is a very dangerous apex predator that lurks beyond the walls. Leaving them is suicide.

The only water we get is either from outside rivers or underground reservoirs.

[bottlearum]

[ Caged, then. Jack makes a face. ]

That don't sound like livin' at all, mate.

[strategisch]

It's not, really. And all our attempts to expand our territory in the last 100 years have ended in failure.

[Things don't bode well for humanity's future.]

[bottlearum]

Sounds like you need a drink.

[ Because that's how you deal with all that dramatic stuff, right? But getting completely drunk. ]

[Can you imagine this guy on rum? One shot. Just one, and he'd be overboard.]

[ How do you even live? No alcohol, no ocean... what's even the point of living, without those things? ]
