[She's on the roof. No mirrors up there, you see. Though this might not necessarily be something they could do anything about.

She's looking at the sky, but there's no dramatic pause for her to work up to what she's saying, or hesitation. She wouldn't have started recording if she wasn't certain she had something to say.]

If events are Wonderland "crashing" into other worlds...

What if you could "jump off" during one?

[The last event got her thinking, you could say.]

Not all of the events have been bad...

[Though the problem there is waiting for a good one to come up.]

[He snorts.] I ain't seen a good one yet. Jus' different levels o' bad.

[She shrugs.]

I'd take a 'slightly bad' world over being trapped.

Yeah. Fair 'nuff. But I'd rather go home, jus' in general.

[Makes sense. She nearly feels the same - but with where she'd left off, she'd be on the same footing somewhere new. She nods, a little slower.]

Doesn't matter for me.

Maybe you'll get another event.

[Not something she'd normally wish on someone, but if happens to be the way out, well.]

Maybe. Who knows? Jus' hope that 'f another one comes 'round, I'll know how t'leave by then.

What 'bout you? I guess I don' know much 'bout yer world.

I suppose, like much else, t'would be a possibility, at least.

[She nods, a little.]

Trick would be finding where. And when.

When's easy enough. Just wait for one of these little parties that nary seem like we'll be murdering each other in a mine or some such ridiculousness. I think it be fair enough to say beggars can't be choosers, and we've got our alms cup rattling all about at this point.

The where, 'owever. Now there be our problem. We've nary got much but crumbs to be going on, do we.

[Though she feels he uses more words than necessary, he illustrates their situation very well, so it doesn't bother her too much. She nods.]

There's always cracks.

[She knows a thing or two about escaping sentient and/or nigh-inescapable buildings.]

They just need to be found.

I wonder what kind of escape velocity it'd take.

[She shrugs. 'Jump' was sort of a figure of speech, though she was thinking of the islands and her boots when she came up with this.]

Assuming that's needed.

Well, I didn't mean it literally.

[Ah. Well then. She shrugs again, after a moment.]

If we knew how it 'crashed', we could guess.

[He nods.]

And we'd need a better answer than "magic."

[This last comes with a small, sardonic handwave.]

Unless it came with rules.

[If the "magic" was explained, even a little, they'd at least have an idea of what needed to be bent, broken, or worked around.]

Right.

Now, I've heard the Red Queen speak compare crashes to forces of nature--gravity, storms, tidal waves.

The question is whether that's more riddling and metaphors, or something we could actually measure.

...Experiment with.

[She nods. And then she smiles.]

I've beaten gravity.

[So metaphor or not, forces of nature can be beaten.]

Yeah?
Think you could repeat it?

[HUH.]

Like... Base jump? To somebody else's world?

[She raises her eyebrow, but hey, something like that inspired this idea.]

Maybe not literally. But similar.

I don't know, we don't really see anything, like... Edge-wise. [He scratches idly at the side of his neck.] Nowhere to aim for, you know? Just weirdness all up in our shit.

[True, but Wonderland wouldn't make things that easy, anyway.]

Maybe a back door?

[He allows himself a few moments of quiet consideration without the sound of his own voice drowning out the gears turning in his mind... But then he shakes his head.]

There's not even a front door, yo. ...And I don't know why anybody'd wanna jump ship anyway, every time we get an event most of us can't wait for it to be over. These other worlds blow ass. I'd wanna jump off of them to come here, seriously.

[Chell almost explains what she means by back door, but the rest of what he says... she frowns.]

...I don't know, I think I'd rather be stuck in like a jar where weird shit only gets dropped in every few weeks than, like... Where the weird shit lives.

[WHERE IT LIVES. THE WEIRD.]

Seriously, it's like nobody else came from anywhere normal.

[Because cooking meth and getting beat on by cops is totally normal. On the more unfortunate side of normal, but normal nonetheless.]

[Ah. She raises her eyebrow, a little. Maybe it's a little condescending, too.]

Uh, yeah, we can't leave. Even if we wanted to. The place is like a friggin' fortress and if there were back doors or whatever they're probably like locked. You gonna take a sledgehammer with you bungee jumping, or what? ...Or that-- that stuff, that crazy powder stuff. Ther...mine.

Actually, she's not going to say anything. She's just going to smile, like all of that sounds like a great start, but like she's planning more. Or like she's done more. Like everything he just said came out to just another obstacle instead of a deterrent.]

[He never did manage to master that particular trick; all of the places he'd wanted to check out had had open windows somewhere.]

[She shrugs, completely unconcerned. There are worse things than being turned into a toadstool, anyway. ~~like being turned into a potato.~~

... Yep, that's it. Jesse's argument completely is not deterring Chell at all. Heck, it might be making her more determined, like when you tell a kid they're not allowed to do something.]

[Jesse ducks his head... But there's a slight smile there.

He likes you, Chell. You're cool.]

You're gonna do it anyway, huh?

[It's an awful idea, for all of the reasons he's just given her, but...

Ugh, a little rebellion would be nice. It's in his blood, or psyche, or something.]

Y-You could use your hole-gun! [ excited about reaching conclusions!!! ]

[She can't help but smile a little at the enthusiasm, but,]

I can only put them where I can see.

...I might be able to help you with that-- if you're willing to try.

[ Johnny's not the type to offer help blindly especially when it's only an idea with a high chance of failure, but... the temptation of getting the fuck out of here is way too goddamn strong to resist. ]

[That gets her attention. She turns more directly to the camera, intent.]

I can make holes... Like what you showed me your gun [ Stand ] can do. We have similar powers, which means...

[ ugh ugh why is it hard to say this urhg why is asking for help hard why is asking for cooperation harder ]

We should try working together. We might be able to make a hole through Wonderland and to a nearby world.

[She's kind of doubting him on the 'similar powers' thing, but then (even if he struggles with it a little) he offers help - and well. This turned out more of a lead than expected. She nods.]

Can you tell me how it works?

[Well isn't this a reversal.]

It's using the Spin...

[ Why not just show her?? He raises a hand-- one now covered in stars. While Chell can't see Tusk, it's pretty obvious that his fingernails are spinning. He maneuvers the camera with his other hand so she can see where he's aiming.

Johnny fires one of his nail bullets, manipulating the hole it makes in a near wall in a lazy fashion. He remains silent as the hole spirals about and eventually slows to a halt.

Next, he sets the camera down on his lap so he can shoot his other arm. On the same wall, another moving hole appears-- one that now has Johnny's hand sticking out of it, waving. ]

[Ah, excellent, a demonstration, that wou-- ARE THOSE HIS FINGERNAILS]

[Okay that's super gross but he demonstrates the rest of his 'Spin' power, and she tries to figure it out in her head.]

... What's its range?

[Her voice is clearly quiet because of how much she's thinking about it and not the fingernail thing, not at all]

About the same as a bullet's. During the last event, I found that I could lengthen that distance by... [ ugh what was that word... ] teleporting my arm through holes I had created, and then shooting from there.
