They supposedly give you anything you like.

[Clearly, he's very put out about this.]

Closets. Closets! Magic is for mages, not wardrobes.

Anything?

[ Brennan's more interested in the logical part of this conversation, sorry, Dorian. Closets that can give you anything you like sound like the most amazing thing ever invented. He could like a great many things.

A way home being one of them. ]

No unique items, apparently. Nothing from home can be replicated exactly, but if you have a need for--

[He waves dismissively, irate.]

A book, or cheese, or a pig, apparently, then you need look no further.

That's amazing!

[ Brennan is quite possibly missing Dorian's point here, but he's rather taken with the idea of a magical closet. ]

Do you know how they do it? Is it something we can replicate back home? Maybe they'll let us take one with us. Or we could steal one. Where's Varric and Sera when I need them?

[personal profile] magisterium 2015-06-28 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Yes-- absolutely missing the point.]

I hardly think a closet can be liberated from the manor it's built into and retain its magical properties.

[Brennan, please. Do try to focus.]

It's an irresponsible application of magic.

And yanking us out of the middle of Skyhold was completely responsible, as a contrast. Dorian, I'm afraid these people don't seem to have grasped the concept of magical responsibility very well at all. Or maybe they just have different spells than what you know?

[ That's got to be possible, right? The manor-house behind them should be proof enough that the ways of whoever inhabits this place is very strange and foreign to everything familiar to him. To them. Brennan might not be as well traveled as some, but he's seen enough of Thedas to know that that style of architecture is like nothing he's seen from Ferelden to the Anderfels. Why is it a stretch to believe their magic might be just as strange? ]

Even if their magic is different, it shouldn't be possible-- conjuring something from nothing, without a mage to serve as a catalyst?

[It's unheard of-- and he's once again insulted, Brennan, this time by the insinuation that he does not know all the spells, everywhere.]

The whole thing seems just like begging for trouble.

[ Dorian, he's not going to judge you for not knowing everything ever. You may be exceedingly pretty but you are still human. Like he is, since the finer details and theory of magic are usually lost on Brennan. Personally he's not sure he quite understands how any of it works, beyond the fact that he knows his companions can point their stick at things and boom. But a magical closet doesn't seem so far out of the realm of comprehension after he's seen holes ripped open in th sky and people turned into an ice statue. ]

Why couldn't a mage have enchanted the closets to do what they do?

[ That was a thing, right? His weapons were enchanted to do things they normally wouldn't, and he certainly didn't have the mage responsible following him around every time he needed to use it. His party was often a display of careful skills juggling as it was. ]

[Human, yes, he'll grant you that, but there's no denying that as humans go, Dorian is rather exceptional-- at least, that's always been his personal opinion.]

Because, Brennan, they just--

[He cuts himself off with a low snarl of frustration, heaving a sigh as he presses his index and middle fingers to his temple.]

That's just not how it works, dear heart.

[ Figuring he'd pushed enough buttons for the moment, Brennan chuckles and reaches out to brush a hand against Dorian's arm. Casual, but contact all the same, a familiar and almost soothing gesture. ]

I will take your word for it, Dorian. You'd know better than I, after all.

In the meantime, what can you tell me about this place? Why are we here?
magisterium: (91)

[personal profile] magisterium 2015-07-05 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Not nearly as much as I'd like to be able to.

[Clearly, there's a great deal about Wonderland that has him out of sorts, foul mood settling in and making itself at home, though he does what he can to keep it at bay-- he's not interested in taking things out on Brennan, and his frustration with the situation certainly isn't helping matters.]

No one I've talked to seems to be able to say 'why,' but there are some who've been here for years, trapped within this place as though it were some kind of magical prison-- though I must say, as prisons go, it's well-furnished and provides a great deal more than most.

[ Hearing the frustration in the mage's tone, Brennan reaches out to let his hand rest against the small of Dorian's back, thumb rubbing idly against the familiar texture of fabric. It's an automatic movement, something intended for comfort and reassurance - for both of them, most likely. Being unwittingly absconded anywhere rarely makes either of them very happy. ]

So no easy way out then, I'm taking it? Just once, I'd like an easy solution to the madness we keep landing ourselves in. Is that so much to ask? I thought we were mostly done with this chaos.

[personal profile] magisterium 2015-07-05 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[He sighs, briefly, but some of the tension seems to ease, Brennan's attempts successful as they often were.]

No easy way out, no, but we're hardly used to things being easy to begin with.

[Which means that between the two of them, he's sure they can sort something out.]

Perhaps some higher power decided we were dangerously close to growing complacent.
outofthebreach: Casual, Serious, Curious, (012)

[personal profile] outofthebreach 2015-07-05 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Are we blaming your higher powers or mine this time? [ Brennan asks with a roll of his eyes heavenwards. ]

Perhaps we can just blame Solas and his and be done with it.

[ Someone might still be a little irritated over the abrupt disappearance. And worried. But irritated is easier to admit to. ]
magisterium: (99)

[personal profile] magisterium 2015-07-07 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose we can blame mine this time around-- it's my turn, isn't it?

[He's lost track. Ought to start taking notes again-- though he frowns at the mention of Solas, his brow creasing.]

Well, that would be convenient. Still sore, I take it? [Not that he blames him.] And here I thought he'd been getting on well enough with everyone to stick around-- though he always did seem to have too many secrets for my liking.
outofthebreach: Casual, Serious, Curious, (012)

[personal profile] outofthebreach 2015-07-08 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I've lost track.

[ Brennan unknowingly echoes his comment with a wry tone, one corner of his lips twisting upwards. Although the topic turning to Solas makes it a fleeting lightness, drawing a weary and frustrated sigh from him. ]

You and me both. And none of what happened has helped to shake the feeling that he knew more than he was letting on, all along.
magisterium: (91)

[personal profile] magisterium 2015-07-10 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
As have I. [He gives a belabored sort of sigh as well.] Suppose I ought to keep notes.

[It's very important they know whose deities they should blame, after all.]

I wouldn't doubt it. We'll find him soon enough, once we're done with-- whatever it is we need to do here. Then you can press him for answers all you like; I've a feeling we've not seen the last of our apostate hobo.
