video;
[Michonne's on the beach, and she's holding the camera out far enough on a wide shot that others can see.]
So. Dining room is now on the beach. Ambiance, I guess.

[She smiles grimly. She can fish, even enjoys it, but gutting and cleaning them to get the finished product? No thanks.]
Huh-- you were there when it moved? What did it feel like?
Re: [Video]
[She could have been shifted around in parts for all she knows.]
[Considering the dining room looks like it might be missing a few pieces itself, though she can't be sure from here.]
Magic is unpredictable-- if you're not hurt, I'd call that a win.
Re: [Video]
[Like a witch. She presses her lips together.]
Occasionally, it's useful, but most of the time it's bad news. Witches are always more trouble than anything else.
Re: [Video]
[She always thought when she died it'd be self-inflicted so that she wouldn't become or walker, or she'd be torn apart. But a witch with a hateful attitude about her sister How the hell did that even happen?]
I've only met one person with it here so far that's terrible. Rest are okay.
[She's curious-- if there's a known dangerous magic user hanging around, maybe even one she doesn't already have a hunch about, being aware could only be a good thing.]
I mean, I don't doubt it, but maybe you've seen something I haven't-- or we could swap notes.

Wicked Witch of the West. Also goes by 'Zelena.' Lives on the eighth floor.
[As far as she's concerned, everyone should stay the hell away.]

I forgot we have two of those, although Elphaba's not so wicked if you ask me.
[She only knows either of them by reputation, but Elphaba has been nothing but well-behaved since turning up.]
I'll make a mental note to avoid that one, thanks. [But also to be wary.] Magic does crazy things to people sometimes.

[Shaking her head a little, Michonne can't help but let out a breath.]
I'm still gettin' used to that part.
[They've already established it's new for her, so she won't get back into it.]
Things may not be great where I'm from, but at least no one can change things up with magic.
no subject
[Shit.]
I'm sorry.
[She might have gone through that recently, herself.]
Yeah, I've-- never really counted on magic to do anything good. Now and then, maybe, but for the most part, I've only ever seen it abused. Seen it hurt people. Magic might be what feeds us and keeps us reasonably comfortable in this place, but aside from that, I'd rather not touch it.

I want to understand it - at least to know what I'm up against at any given time. Not that it always helps, but what's that they say about knowing your enemy? I'm trying.

[Generally, she would want to know, too. That's why they do so much damn research whenever they get a job back home, but here--
Researching any one kind of magic was a hell of a lot easier said than done.]
There are people here from the same world as her. One of them might be willing to explain a little more-- fore-warned is fore-armed and all that.

[She doesn't generally assign the word 'crazy' to anyone, but for Zelena? It seems to apply.]
no subject
[Jo doesn't love the word, either, but in this case, she's sure it fits-- it often seems to go hand-in-hand with magic.]
If you find anything out and need a supernaturally-minded hand in prepping pre-emptive defenses, let me know? I do have some experience in that area.

[All she can think of is ghosts, honestly.]
no subject
[You name it, it probably exists where she comes from.]
I'd say handling that stuff is what I did for a living back home, but nobody pays hunters. Full-time job, though. Wouldn't have traded it for anything else.
no subject
[But she's curious, so.]
These things just...wander around to the point you have to hunt them?
no subject
Kind of. Hunters look for patterns-- deaths with unexplained causes, or methods that resemble a given creature's M.O. It can be tough, you have to look for the little things, but you learn what kind of clues to look for early on. If you don't, you've got no business being a hunter.

CSI: Monster Hunt?
[She gives a flash of a smile. But seriously:]
Sounds dangerous. One of those jobs people don't think about until their life is messed up and they need you.
no subject
[Which means impersonating officers of the law from time to time.]
Generally, though, fewer sunglasses at night, more denim and plaid.
[Hunter chic. Just the way it works.]
You're not wrong, though. It's dangerous, but-- once you know about this kind of thing? About monsters, what they're capable of, the things that are out there while normal people go about their lives? It's hard to look the other way. Impossible, even-- for me, anyway. It's all I ever wanted to do. My dad was a hunter, so ever since I was little, I wanted to do the same thing he did.
no subject
And that's gotta carry over here. Too much happens for it not to.
[At least she assumes.]
Good dress code, getting to do what you really love? Sounds like most people's dream job.
[You know, if your dream job involves monsters.]
no subject
[You can't plan for every possible situation, but you can plan to be flexible.]
Well, it's mine, anyway, even if it's risky. I always thought it was worth it. Couldn't imagine doing anything else, not when I grew up knowin' about this stuff.
no subject
Some people want to run into danger, that's all they've ever wanted. Yours is just...different kind of danger.
[And looking at Jo, just having this conversation, Michonne's gut tells her she's right for the job, a good person, wants to help people. Maybe she's wrong, but she doesn't think so.]
no subject
[There are hunters like that, too-- thrillseekers, people who do it for the rush instead of to help people, instead of because it's the right thing to do if you're capable of doing it in the first place.]
I've seen a lot of that. My mom ran a roadhouse back home, we saw all kinds of people come through-- hunters of every flavor, some of 'em just lookin' for the next kill to get their blood pumping. Everyone gets into the life for different reasons, though. Usually it's personal.
