[This isn’t the first time Freya is woken up to find her world changed, but she had thought she had put this part of her life behind her. She’s also super annoyed because she’s supposed to be saving her dumb family right now, but apparently she can’t ever have what she wants. Story of Freya’s life.

This is not where she’s supposed to be but she’s too paranoid to place that on the network right away. She buys her time, explores, gets to know things, and after finding her way to a bar for a big girl drink, while she’s sitting there, swirling the straw in her hand, she opens the device and decides to test the waters. She speaks calmly and clearly, but doesn’t show her face quite yet.]

So. Instead of demanding information I'm sure you've all shared a thousand times before, I’d prefer to keep things interesting. If you all don’t mind indulging the curiosity of someone who so rarely finds themselves in a place that is quite so … eclectic, I think I’d like to know more about where you all are from.

Granted, there are many variables that make up different worlds, so let’s not let ourselves get carried away. Beginning with one topic would probably suffice, so I’ve chosen the one that I know best.

[You can almost hear the smirk as she speaks.]

[The reason she chooses the bar, rather than the safety of her assigned room to make that particular announcement is that she does need someone to explain this world to her and as far as she can tell, there is only one person she knows and trusts here. She would rather hear it straight from Cami, getting potentially conflicting information from strangers.

(She's aware that she's fortunate Cami was there at all - she might have had no choice but to rely on the kindness of strangers - but for how she's choosing not to think about being trapped, alone, in a world she doesn't understand. It's bad enough that her siblings aren't here and she seems to be trapped here indefinitely.)

So there she is, perched on a bar stool like she belongs there, and waiting for Cami to make her appearance. That being said, she's not completely unfriendly, so if you wish to chat her up, she'll be more than happy to talk to you.]

Witches. I've heard mages before, but not for a very long time. I am part of the nine covens in New Orleans.

What kind of magic are you an expert on?

I supposed that is very true. Our parents made things very difficult for us, and in turn, we make things difficult for others. A rather vicious cycle, I'm afraid.

For my world that isn't true. Immortal creatures born of these organic compounds travel the world freely. And this, again, was not my decision. It was one forced upon me that I am quite free of now.

It depends on the magic you practice. I practice traditional magic - we draw power from nature and use it to cast our spells.

[Her family line created vampires. Freya really doesn't think she's one to talk about necromancy.]

I practice what we call traditional magic, though some would call it natural magic - drawing on the power of nature. Though I have studied a great deal, given that I have had plenty of time to do so.

Mostly general information for now. I figured there would be time to learn more ... in depth information, considering from what I've been told we seem to be stuck here.

I certainly would not turn such an offer down. Though I must ask that should my questions become too trying, you feel no hesitation in telling me to desist.

I'd say it depends on the person, more than anything else. And if you have both, well then, you'll find there's very little you can't do.

[That sounds... almost familiar. Gem kindergartens drawing energy from the very Earth to create more gems. To create Amethyst.]

It sounds a bit like what some of our elven mages might practice.

Is your power inherent, then, or strictly learned? I'm curious; it seems to vary from world to world.

[Alphys smiles, tries to make herself look welcoming. She doesn't want people to be scared of her, but she has gotten the lizard monster reaction a couple of times.]

Y-Yeah! A lot of it. But uhm, n-not for humans, just for monsters. But e-everything is based on magic, even if humans can't, uhm, u-use it.

It does seem to go in trends every once in a while. Perhaps some of us are just irresistibly tasty.

Most cycles are, it seems. [ His voice is dry as he shakes his head with a smile. ] One thing parental figures seem more than adept to passing off to the next generation, yeah? It's not an easy cycle to escape.

....Short of being kidnapped to a fictional universe, at any rate. That's a bit of an extreme solution, however.

I'm sure they're not questions I haven't asked myself. But if it does come to that point, I will be sure to honor your wishes.

I'm sure she would, were she not very dead.

[She's not even all that sad about it, to be honest.]

[There's a small, thoughtful noise because that certainly reminds her of her Aunt Dahlia. But she's got ambition all her own, so she's certainly not one to judge.]

It sounds like a very ... accessible form of magic, if nothing else.

[She pauses for a moment.]

It depends on what you're channeling. Something old and strong like the earth or a tree probably wouldn't even feel it. Something younger and more fragile like another witch could be harmed in the process, however, which is why you need to be careful how much power you draw from them. But it allows two witches to combine their power towards a particular goal that one might not have been able to achieve on their own.

Inherent. While I'm certain you could study magic without it, it tends to run in our blood. In fact, certain witch bloodlines can become quite powerful, the longer the chain goes unbroken.

Interesting. Where I'm from, witches are usually only human. Our monsters are cut off from magic to preserve the balance.

[She laughs.]

Perhaps. Though if they are looking to swallow me, they might find themselves choking.
