deathlessness: (but you're bound to stay)

ƒ 001 [voice/action] open } { but you're bound to stay, for you've lost your way

[voice ~ ota]
[This isn’t the first time Freya is woken up to find her world changed, but she had thought she had put this part of her life behind her. She’s also super annoyed because she’s supposed to be saving her dumb family right now, but apparently she can’t ever have what she wants. Story of Freya’s life.

This is not where she’s supposed to be but she’s too paranoid to place that on the network right away. She buys her time, explores, gets to know things, and after finding her way to a bar for a big girl drink, while she’s sitting there, swirling the straw in her hand, she opens the device and decides to test the waters. She speaks calmly and clearly, but doesn’t show her face quite yet.]

So. Instead of demanding information I'm sure you've all shared a thousand times before, I’d prefer to keep things interesting. If you all don’t mind indulging the curiosity of someone who so rarely finds themselves in a place that is quite so … eclectic, I think I’d like to know more about where you all are from.

Granted, there are many variables that make up different worlds, so let’s not let ourselves get carried away. Beginning with one topic would probably suffice, so I’ve chosen the one that I know best.

[You can almost hear the smirk as she speaks.]

Let’s talk magic.

[action ~ the bar ~ for cami o'connell, but ota]
[The reason she chooses the bar, rather than the safety of her assigned room to make that particular announcement is that she does need someone to explain this world to her and as far as she can tell, there is only one person she knows and trusts here. She would rather hear it straight from Cami, getting potentially conflicting information from strangers.

(She's aware that she's fortunate Cami was there at all - she might have had no choice but to rely on the kindness of strangers - but for how she's choosing not to think about being trapped, alone, in a world she doesn't understand. It's bad enough that her siblings aren't here and she seems to be trapped here indefinitely.)

So there she is, perched on a bar stool like she belongs there, and waiting for Cami to make her appearance. That being said, she's not completely unfriendly, so if you wish to chat her up, she'll be more than happy to talk to you.]

That's, uh... s-sort of opposite, where I'm f-from. Humans are, uh, a-already really strong, so, t-they don't need magic. It's, uh, m-monsters that need it, because of the strength of, uh, h-human souls.

Y-Yeah! Uhm, so everyone has a s-soul, but human souls can, uh, e-exist after the human d-dies. But monster souls c-can't. But uh, since human souls a-are, uh, more solid-- they have more physicality, w-which is why they don't immediately dissipate after d-death-- they can't, uhm, u-use magic. Because t-they don't have the space in their soul to, uh, hold it. Monster souls are l-less physical, so we can c-create magic! Besides, monsters aren't n-nearly as strong as, uh, humans, a-anyway. Most monsters d-don't have the will to, h-hurt anyone, and we c-can only do real damage if we, uh, w-want to hurt people.

I hope, uh, t-that makes sense. I didn't want to get, uhm, t-too complicated, about it.

Well, p-possibly! It's more l-like... in my world, m-magic makes up the entire universe. But monsters, since uhm, t-they not physical, can c-channel the magic through their souls, and create a-and manifest it in unique ways. Humans are t-too physical to, uhm, c-channel the magic of the universe. But this physicality m-means their souls are, uhm, a-able to survive without a body holding them, t-together, while monsters can't, uh, do that. It's about t-their physical matter.

There's, uh, l-legends that say humans, uhm, o-once had magic. But from everything, uhm, I k-know, it's just monsters, now.

O-Of course! I mean, uhm, I'm not sure how much, I r-remember, or uh, things like t-that. But I'd be happy to, uhm, a-answer any questions I can. I am, uh, a scientist, a-after all. I've studied, uhm, m-magic and science, too.

W-Well naturally! I mean, I d-don't know about your world, but... you c-can't do anything without magic, where I come from. Separating them w-would just create more trouble than it would h-help.
sciencelizard: (« [Thoughtful] Careful consideration)

[personal profile] sciencelizard 2016-05-04 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Less... m-magical? Like, uhm, f-finding rules for it? Because there are rules f-for magic, on how it works, and it's l-limitations. Or do, uh, y-you mean more like... they don't i-interact?

[She scrunches up her face a little. Well that's just not right at all.]

But magic... h-has rules. They're just different f-from widely accepted science! But if you don't h-have rules for your magic, y-you'll never understand it. That's... s-so dumb.
sciencelizard: (« [Small Smile] What Doesn't Kill Me)

[personal profile] sciencelizard 2016-05-17 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Well that makes her smile a little wider, but she's still pretty miffed.]

Well... w-well I don't know how magic works, uhm, other places, but it certainly doesn't work that way where I'm from. Magic is explainable, i-it's just... still magic, because of it's elasticity.
sciencelizard: (« [Thoughtful] Careful consideration)

[personal profile] sciencelizard 2016-05-20 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
W-Well, uhm, both? It has such a w-wide variety of applications, and m-manifestations, and it exists through it's o-own set of rules within physics and a-atmosphere, so... it's more of a category, than uhm, a-anything else.

... At least, uhm, w-where I'm from, that's h-how it works.

Well, it would be a-an interesting thing to study! We do have a lot of t-time here. And, uh, it m-might give you some insight into your own magic, to learn things about o-other worlds.

Oh, I, uh, o-okay! I'm uh, n-no expert about magic in my world, I mean, I know a l-lot of it in theory, not so much in practice, but I can t-talk about magical theory for a while. So, uhm, y-yeah! We c-can do that!
