TIME FOR A YACHT PARTY, HOW FUN (video + action)

( this is far from his first "event" in Wonderland, but somehow that doesn't make it any easier. he's seen a lot of demented creatures in his lifetime, that simply happens when you're as old as he is. he's not interested in sticking around to let them gnaw on him, and he's got a very good escape route to get away from the madness. )

Listen. I don't know what these things are, but I'm willing to bet they can't swim. If you can get to the docks, we're taking off in under an hour.

( he doesn't know most of the people trapped here, but he's not heartless. his ship could get rather cramped, but when it's life or death on the line, he'll take anyone who wants the shelter. )

If you damage my ship you'll be fixing it yourself. Worry less about what you're bringing and more about getting here safely.

( that's it, that's the message; he probably won't talk too much to anyone that responds, other than to answer questions. )

When the man says an hour, he really means it. As soon as everyone pertinent is aboard, including some individuals he wasn't exactly expecting (a friend of the people he cared about was good enough to grant passage), the ship sets sail. It's easier to get The Jolly Roger moving when there's more than just one person running about her decks. Don't know how to sail? Well, get ready for a crash course lesson, because all hands on deck.

After that, it's more or less a waiting game. There's a barrier to protect the ship and after that, it's up to the people aboard to keep themselves entertained. There's more food than one would expect, between the pirate and the stores people brought along. One can expect to eat, though perhaps not eat well. When it's survival on the line, though, do you have any room to complain?

There's not a great deal to keep one entertained, though. There are hammocks to sleep in in the crew quarters, a deck to walk and places to explore. The captain's quarters are very much so off limits and if he finds you there he'll be displeased. There are a few games, trinkets, things here or there. Maybe you can get some lessons in sailing or swordsmanship while you're aboard... Make the most of it, because it's hard telling how long you'll be stuck on the steadily rocking decks.

[Unlike Dipper, Max has never been on the Jolly Roger before, though she's been curious about it since she first arrived. It's really tempting to whip out her camera and take pictures of the beach from all the way out at sea- but in the distance is the mansion too, and she can't help but think of all the people still there.

So she stares out, her camera unused in her bag. After a while she sighs and decides to take pictures of the other side of the ship, where the sea stretches out for what seems like eternity and the sun lights the water with red-orange hues.

But she stops short when she catches sight of Dipper reading- or pretending to read. The worried look on his face is familiar. She sort of has it, too.]

Hey Dipper. [She tries for an encouraging and gentle smile as she approaches but doesn't quite get it right.]

[Just hearing Regina's voice is enough to make her scowl even more. Well, that and seeing her. Being in the same place as her. Breathing the same air as her. Really, the list of things just goes on and on and on. Remember the song event? Basically that but with about a billion more verses.]

I could protect her well enough on my own. After all, I can put up a barrier just as well as you can. Better, actually, if having me contribute says anything about it.

[She is so mad. So very very mad.]

You had to contribute because the magic of three people is better than two. Don't mistake that for something it isn't.

[Regina sighs, though.]

Don't you ever get tired of being so angry all the time?

Right, we should all take your lead and stand around looking like we swallowed a lemon.

( understandably, the air on the ship is rather dour. Zelena isn't making it any better hovering around miserably looking like she single handedly put away a whole package of sour patch kids. )

Really? Because if we put it to a vote, I think I know who we'd all pick. ( more importantly: ) Sending people off the plank has never been a democratic affair.

( he's a lot of talk, he can't actually send her swimming with the fishes. but he can sure pretend, it's a lovely mental image. )

( well, at least he's not too hard to find. he's half conflicted on whether he wants to stay on his ship or if he should try to run out into the madness to find Emma. he hasn't heard from her yet and that's quite alarming. there was one good thing about living in the mansion, apparently, and that was being so close to the people that mattered most.

he's getting ready to set off when the queen herself arrives. he can tell just by her voice. for better or worse, Hook has plenty of history with the Mills. it's pretty easy to recognize them, especially when they're angry. )

So lovely of you to make it, your Majesty. Is Emma with you?

( he's terse but not exactly snarky; he tries to behave for Henry's sake. )

She nods in agreement with him. “My world is this. Not the exact same, breathing the air won’t make you sick. But the dead walking. That’s where I’m from. And it seems to happen here at least once a year. This might be twice now in that span of time.”

Apparently, a lot of them have memories that majorly suck because they’re from shit holes. “Ours are slow though. Not runners. Makes it easier.”

Don’t worry, I didn’t expect anything.

[And yet, he drops down beside her. Not super close, there’s a good amount of space between them, but he’s close enough to talk to her if he wants.]

You can’t just poof out of here if you wanted? What’d my mom do to you? [Or threaten to do.]

I’m sorry.

[He mumbles it, looking down a little.]

Guess I’m a pretty useless hero. I can’t even save myself.

[Which they both know isn’t true, not by a long shot after everything he did in the stupid world Gold and Isaac created. But the teenage angst is strong in this one.]

I thought I could help people with magic. I really did.

[That's pretty much what she does with everything else anyway.]

And it doesn't matter if I want to be or not. It's all I can be. How could I be anything else? Wonderland is a horrible place, and I'm stuck with the lot of you, and to make matters worse, I can't even leave because teleporting blindly when those things are out there is hardly a smart decision. So tell me, sis, why shouldn't I be angry?

[..look, there was a whole rant about her entire life in here, but she'll stick to recent events for now.]

Can't say I'd be willing to go along with it even if you did put it all to a vote. I think it's far more likely the rest of you would have to hope those things don't suddenly learn how to swim.

[There's a fun thought. See? She's smiling just thinking about it. Thanks Hook, you really know how to make someone feel better.]

( unbelievably, he has thought about that. unlike Zelena, he's spent most of this endeavor worrying that his supposed haven won't end up being safe at all. still, even if they can swim: )

And get up how? ( they don't seem to be climbers, just saying. )

Besides, that's what the barrier is for. Are you saying that is bound to fail?

( since she was a part of putting it up (SHOCKINGLY, TBH???), he doubts she'll admit its capable of failure. )

"Really." That's uncomfortable to think about, a land full of these creatures. The pirate never got that close to any of them, thankfully, but he'd seen enough through his spyglass.

"Explains why you were so prepared." He hadn't missed how much she'd managed to lug onto the ship before they set off. He hoardes goods himself, less preparing for the apocalypse and more just a grim understanding of what it is like to not have anything. Still, what he'd had aboard wouldn't have been enough, and every little bit counted. "I can't fathom why so many people are so complacent about being trapped here, when this madness can happen twice a year."

He doesn't mention how bad things must be ashore, but he can guess that not everyone is going to make it out of this alive. So what if they'll come back? It's still horrible to imagine.

Other than forcing me to get on this stupid boat and deal with people I'd rather not deal with, no, she really didn't.

[..such is Zelena's life. The world has turned into a zombie apocalypse and she's whining about having to talk to people that she'd probably antagonize anyway. Sorry, Henry, your aunt has some issues.]

So I could leave, but on the other hand, I'd rather not just appear over there, in the middle of who knows what.

[She didn't exactly have time to throw up an anti whatever those things are barrier before being dragged over here.]

[But does she mean by the infected or in general? We just don't know.]

Or maybe because letting anger rule your entire life is something I have plenty of experience with and even after everything you've done, I don't want that life for you?

[Wow this pep talk is not off to a good start. But given that David and Snow aren't here, someone has to take up the mantle.]

How should I know? That's a question for whoever's from whatever oh so charming place spawned those horrid things.

[Now that's a realm she'd never like to see.]

And I'm not saying it's going to fail at all. I'm saying that if someone were so inclined, oh from having to put up with a rather annoying pirate with way too much eyeliner, an infuriating younger sister who can't mind her own damn business and whoever else you have running around here, well, they might just be inclined to find a way to lose some dead weight, that's all.

[Like she'd let a little thing like a barrier stop her from teleporting a bunch of people into Wonderland's sea if she were so inclined. She won't, but she could. She's thinking about it at least. But probably won't. Because outside of being the world's most unpleasant person for three seasons in a row, Zelena's not really big on actually doing things all the time apparently.]

[And now she's moved from just scowling to that bitter, angry, borderline crying thing she does when she's just not having any of this shit and why are you bringing up things like that Regina?]

As far as I'm concerned, the only person who should get a say in what I want is me, and it's a little too late for anyone else to give their opinion. And even if it wasn't, you're the last person I'd want to hear it from.

( not that he was particularly worried about it, it seems rather unlikely to him that those creatures could both swim out this far and then still be capable of scaling the sides of the ship, but unlike Zelena he is at least moderately concerned that the ship actually remain safe. )

You're a great deal of talk and very little action these days, in fact. Wonderland certainly hasn't made you any more enjoyable, but perhaps it has curbed your temper.

( he mildly wonders why, but Zelena is probably the least likely person to inform him. )

You gave up any right to being the sole decision maker of your life when you tricked Robin.

[She's trying not to get angry but oh my god Zelena, why are you so difficult.]

And maybe you should start caring, because right now? I'm the only family you have, whether you like it or not. And once again, despite everything that still means something to me.

Oh, I wasn't always like this. Before your return, I was my usual wicked self. In fact, I spent months plotting and figuring out just how to tear a hole in Wonderland, and certainly did my share of damage. Ask around if you don't believe me.

[She's actually proud of that mess despite the fact that it didn't work and she died because you know what? People were as miserable as she is for a while so it counts as a minor victory or something.]

But, and there's no point in saying otherwise, it didn't quite work out the way I wanted it too. And I certainly thought about trying again, but what can I say? I have someone else to think about now.

She's not supposed to mean anything to anyone, okay? She's wicked and awful and she wants to be rid of you all, so no, she doesn't get to mean anything. That just makes her have feelings somewhere in her mind that she doesn't want to deal with or think about.]

I hope you're not expecting me to suddenly care. Oh, she thinks we're family and that means something. Then perhaps I should just trade in my broomstick and my monkeys and settle down and we can all be one big happy family.

[She was going for sarcasm here, but what comes out of her mouth is more bitter sounding than anything else.]

And like you have any room to talk. Like the Evil Queen has any right to judge the Wicked Witch for doing something wicked.

[She, of all people, knows instant results just don't happen. ... Unless you're a Charming, apparently.]

But do you actually think you're going to be happy if you keep going like this? You said you wanted to go back to Oz and raise your child, but do you really think any child you raise to think just like you is going to love you?

[She'll let that sink in for a moment before she continues.]

Or are you going to be just like our mother in her eyes?

[She hasn't seen Emma either, but they both know she can take care of herself. For now, at least, before this gets any worse. And it will, because it always does.

She's more concerned about Henry and what those things could do to him to be more than mildly irritated. Besides, now isn't the time.]

I had to get Henry out of there, those... things cornered him. The mansion isn't safe, and it's not going to be until this is over.

There's one place that should be safe until then.

Won't know until I find out, will I? And if I'm not, what does it change?

[She doesn't want to sound like Cora, but damn it, she sees this as her best chance for happiness. Her only chance, actually. Which is sad, she's a sad miserable person, everybody knows it, don't they?]

But don't you dare compare me to her. She may grow up wicked, but at least she'll be wanted. No one's going to abandon her in the woods or force her to become queen all to satisfy some ridiculous complex. But...

[She goes to stop herself from talking and then the hell with it, she'll just keep going. Because when has Zelena ever stopped herself from continuing to push or going to far.]

But I suppose it doesn't matter because despite all your so called caring, you'll never give me the chance, will you? Once we get back, you'll just try and put me back in that cell, regardless of what else is going on and you and Robin will live happily ever after, oh, and maybe, just maybe wicked old Zelena might get to see her on weekends.

[Yeah, she's...given this some thought apparently.]

[He closes his book. He doesn't even try to smile, but he does try and relax a little. It isn't easy.]
