[Died. That has to be it. Napstablook's refusal to meet his eyes says it all. He knew that anyone else from their world that came here could have different memories of what happened in the Underground but this... He never wanted to be a ghost again.]

[He doesn't say anything as he reaches out for Napstablook, pulling them into a tight hug. He's missed these hugs over the past two months, and traitorously he feels happier here than he has in awhile. He hopes that Napstablook actually wants this hug and doesn't phase out of his arms.]

It's all right, Blooky. I was so, so awful to you. I left you all alone not once, but twice now. You don't need to apologize.

[He bought them time? Ah. He must have fought Frisk. In that timeline where they don't stay their hand. Did they watch? Did Napstablook see? He wants to ask so much more. Was he brave? Was he strong? Or was he as big of a coward as he always suspected he would be?]

[It feels strange, but at the same time familiar, to shift their form to semi-corporeal as their cousin reaches for them so that they can be held. That's right, they had to do this to hug him when he was a ghost too. ]

[His response is immediate. He doesn't want them to think for a second that they're to blame for his inability to keep a promise.]

I've been here for a little over 2 months now. I was hoping that I would have left by now, but...

[No one seems to be any closer to escaping and it might drive him mad.]

[He lets his arms fall, trying to ignore the sting.]

[He looks uncertain though. Can this happen? Could another Napstablook come along one day? ...could another Mettaton? The possibilities are endless.]

[Napstablook hesitates and then floats back up to him]

[The conversation turns towards something he can actually answer, and he jumps at it, burying his own worries.]

As I said, if you go too far in any direction from the Mansion, you'll die. In general, you have about five lives you can spend? Where you can die and Wonderland will bring you back somehow. Something bad happens after the fifth, but I don't think anyone knows what.

The closets, when you get your own room, will give you anything you want so long as you can imagine it. I think there are some restrictions on what you can pull out, but I haven't run into them yet. That's just the tip of the iceberg though.

[They nod, trying to take it all in, even though they inwardly doubt that they can die. Maybe they could test it. They know better than to voice this thought to their cousin, though, who says it with such certainty that it almost sounds like he's forgotten about incorporeality all together. They suppose that's for the best.]

so... we get rooms here.... like a hotel...?

Unlike a hotel, once that room is yours, it's yours. And you don't have to pay for it! So it's more like free housing.
