[When the feed clicks on, Mettaton is at the camera, perfectly poised and smiling wide.]

Hello, Wonderland! Sorry for that little hiccup earlier!

[He fluffs his hair a bit, which definitely looks disheveled; an unusual deviation from his usual picture perfect looks.]

I had a small incident with Wonderland's local dream demon BUT! There's no need to fear, darlings, because your strong, amazing hero Mettaton repelled the evil doer! Wonderland is safe and so are the rest of you!

[He smiles, though it falters for just a brief second before he continues.]

Now, let's put this silly incident behind us, shall we? There's no need to worry about any of these shenanigans or torment yourself with worry over me (unless you want to, of course! ♥). I'm sure you'll see my shining face on the network sometime in the future again (minus any and all unauthorized uses of my brand) so I shall let you all return to your daily lives. Bye, darlings~!

[He pauses for a moment, blinks, and then hurriedly gives a cutesy wave and wink to the camera, though it's clear his heart isn't in it. The feed ends there.]

((ooc: Mettaton may respond to network responses but it will probably be sporadic due to the fact that he's feeling really rough right now. For anyone wanting to personally come and check on him, the door will have many latches and locks and Mettaton will not be opening his door for anyone other than close CR, if that. But he's fine. [She's apprehensive as she hears the locks clicking, not daring to let herself hope that she's done something right, that she can break through to whatever's bothering him, but Mettaton can't miss the growing smile on her face when she sees him there. He's... he's here. Through it all, through the shows for the camera and people coming to call and not getting in and the tenuous stress that maybe, here and now, is where she loses him...

He's here, after all.

It takes her very little time to close the gap between them, throwing her arms around his middle. Always too damn tall to reach his face.]

I'm so h-happy to see you.

[At first he thinks, as he goes through the locks, he'll be able to placate her with a talk in the doorway and then leave. But when she throws her arms around him and holds him tight, he realizes that it doesn't matter that much that she won't be placated with him pulling away.

The real problem is that he doesn't want her to let go.]

Oh Alphys...

[He wants to say more, but just feeling her near stirs something in his soul and he's shaking a little as he holds her tight and a few tears escape his eyes.]

I'm happy to see you too.

[She can't quite reach his head, wants to be able to pull it down onto her shoulder and cradle him and mean it. He's too big. Has always been too big, for his soul, for his body, for his dreams.]

Metta, you... you don't have to b-be alone, when all of this happens, I'm sorry if I scared you with the golem, or Bill, I just... I w-wanna be there for you. If I can. I mean, when I can, and I... you're...

He says nothing. Instead, he holds her closer.]

[He...]

He just. Came in. And took my body.

[She breathes heavy, and she's sure he can feel it.]

I'll-- I'm sorry, I should've reinforced the capacitor. As soon as I saw, I knew how he c-could've done it, and-- I shouldn't have left you open like that, I'm sorry.

[She can't imagine being pushed out of herself, watching like a spectator while her body did horrible things.]

I didn't think you'd let him. You... y-you wouldn't.

[Her breath is deep and Mettaton trembles a little more.]

You couldn't have known. How could you have? He doesn't exist back home. This couldn't have happened if I wasn't here. If I hadn't...

[His fault. His fault for talking to other people, for letting any vulnerability be shown. If he was the perfect, distant star like his mirror is, this could never have happened. Or if it did, he'd be blameless.

As it stands, other than Bill, there's no one to blame but himself.]

He was my friend.

[Mettaton doesn't have the strength to explain himself or defend himself. He wants to pull Alphys into his room so that no one can hear what they are saying but all will to move his legs seems to have left his body.

Haha. Maybe Bill took that too.]

[She draws him closer, or tries to. She doesn't want to barge into his room, or force him back in if he doesn't want to go, but the pressure on him should be clear- she's not leaving. Not now. Not truly ever.]

I'm sorry, t-that this happened. That he abused the trust you put in him.

[Because it's not like he wanted this. It's not like it was really his fault, and Alphys certainly isn't stupid enough to accuse him of that.]

This didn't happen because you were here. It happened because he w-was here. And he did something horrible.

[She's closer now and she's steady and warm and solid and Mettaton clings to her. His soul flares a bit, it's color changing and for a moment it feels like he is reaching out with his magic to her, looking for reassurance, for something familiar and viscerally real but when he registers what he is doing he wrenches back immediately from her as if burned.

No. No he can't do that. He can't reach out like that to her, he can't, he's not allowed and

he doesn't want his mirror to see. He doesn't want him to know. This is something special between him and Alphys and it's wrong to keep secrets but he needs this one, he can't lose it. He can't!]

I shouldn't have trusted him. I shouldn't have let him in. It's my fault. I knew he was a trap but I gave in anyway.

[His words feel oddly doubled. Like there is more meaning there than he intended. He's shaking again.]

I'm sorry, Alphys. This was a mistake.

[She feels his SOUL try to peek towards hers and she goes to respond, but he cuts it immediately, and the severing is startling. She doesn't know why he won't express himself, but--

She remembers. His mirror, in his room. Didn't want to open the door.

Is he... protecting her?]

You don't have to l-lock yourself in there. We could... we could go to my room. Watch some anime, like old times. Just because someone hurt you doesn't mean you deserved it. You d-don't.

[Trusting people is not weakness. She knows this more than most, because it was once nearly her downfall, the segmenting of herself from those who cared about her driving her closer and closer to the brink.]

[Mettaton shakes and shakes and then he laughs and it's broken and discordant as he leans against the doorway. He grips his face and the smile that rips open his face is wild and crazed.]

Like old times. Like old times? How can we ever go back to that? Why do we pretend we could ever go back?

[His soul glows and it feels like he is three inches removed from his body. He's not connected and he chokes out a small sob. His body. Not his body. His body. Not his body. Hisbodynothisbodyhisbodynothisbodyhisbodynothisbody]

We're trapped in some magical hell hole with no chance of escape and I had my body stolen by a fucking, a fucking triangle, and you don't remember the same things I do, you don't remember the surface and the sun the way I do and no one does and I am always alone, I have to be, that's how it is-

[He can't tell if the electricity popping out of his body is real or just his imagination. What if he vibrated so hard that he moves even farther from himself and vacates this form completely? The thought strangles him, the panic clawing its way up his throat and for a moment he opens his mouth and nothing comes out.]

I can't do this Alphys, I can't, I can't do this alone, but I have to, but I can't!

[He sobs out the last word, finally breaking down. The tears overflow and he curls up to the side of the door, openly weeping.]

[She wants to do something, has to do something as she watches this happen in front of her. He's... it's obvious he's taking this hard, why wouldn't he? His body has always been the most important thing to him. Their entire relationship, how it's grown and dipped and curved, has been based around it. And all that time she's always insisted it's his. It's his.

She remembers back, for a moment, to the Mettaton from her dreams at the end of last year. The Mettaton who truly believed himself nothing more than in her service, her puppet. The most jarring thing to ever see- one of him that didn't believe himself worth every moment of his own form.

And here they are again, in another sense. Undeserving. Isolating. Suffering in silence for the good of everyone.

They always were best friends for so many reasons.

She steps forward, suddenly unafraid, and wraps her arms around him, holding him as close as she can.]

I... I understand. F-Feeling like you can't, you can't talk to anyone because they weren't there and, you have secrets, and... and it's a burden. I know.

[She knows. More than most. More than anyone else.]

You... you d-don't have to be alone. I won't leave. I promise.

[He doesn't resist the hug at all. She holds him close and he wraps his arms around her tight, shaking and sobbing. She's the rock in his storm and he knows if he lets her go he'll sink below the waves.]

Alphys...

[It's hard for him to speak. It's hard for him to think. But she makes a promise. And for once, he can't stop himself from wanting something.]

You promise you won't leave? Ever?

[please don't ever leave. he can't handle it. She's his heart in so many ways and it has always been hard to deny.]

[She draws him in closer, tilting her head so it touches his.]

I promise. I r-really promise. You don't have to be alone.

[She touches her head to his and he shudders. His grip does not change. He continues to cling to her with everything he has.]

[He all but whispers it, unable to muster the energy to speak any louder. It's scary. Everything is still scary and uncertain and his body still feels wrong in some ways but... she's here. Alphys is here. And she won't leave.

He's not alone.]
