I take it the vague message we received from a rodent today is the type of unhelpful missive people have warned me lead to events?

How does one typically prepare themselves when you've no idea what's about to happen?

It's easier to expect the worst than it is to assume a prison is going to do anything pleasant. And if it does, then it can be a nice happy surprise for us all.

More or less how it usually works. At any rate, if you do that, you'll be prepared when everything goes to hell. Either literally or figuratively.

You sound like someone who's been here long enough to have a handle on things. How long has it been, if you don't mind my asking?

Years. If it's any consolation, not everyone stays that long.

Nearly everyone I've spoken to has said that, and nearly everyone I've spoken to has been here longer than I believe anyone cares to.

[ She can't help her curiosity, though. ]

What's it like? To know your actual life has been held in stasis for so long? If that's even true.

Depends on what's going on in your life. Sometimes it isn't so bad. Othertimes, it's the absolute worst thing.

So it is, true then? Time truly stands still at home while we're here?

[ Claire pauses for a moment before explaining why she's asked. ]

This isn't my first trip through time, and time definitely hasn't stopped moving in my other circumstances.

As far as I know. Haven't met anyone who's said otherwise yet.

[She shrugs.]

I'm hardly an expert in other circumstances. Only time traveled once and it's hardly a regular thing in my world.

Same here. I don't plan on making this a habit. And in fact, I'd like to travel just once more to get back home. This was, as it is for everyone else, an unplanned trip.

[ But now Claire's curious, of course. ]

How did you do it in your world? Travel through time, I mean?

Opened a magic portal. What about you? How'd you do it?

Honestly, I'm not sure. Perhaps it was a portal that I entered unintentionally. There was a circle of stones and there was an...energy, almost electric coming from one of them. I walked forward, touched it, and when I opened my eyes again I was over two-hundred years in the past.

Never heard of that before. Usually there's something that triggers the portal. A curse, a spell, even a magic bean.

[That's weird, okay?]

I'm sorry, a magic bean?

[ Just to be super clear because maybe Claire heard wrong? ]

If you think that's hard to believe, can't imagine what you'd think of the truly ridiculous things in my realm.

Well, I've met someone who can make fire with his hands, so we can check that off the list. I'm in a magic place where time stands still and the closets are magic. 'Hard to believe' isn't necessarily it, so much as...'trying to wrap my head around things.'

I used to be able to do that.

[Man does she miss being able to wave her hand and torch things. Not that she did it often, but still! It's one of those things where you don't miss it until it's gone and it sucks.]

But let me know if you do, I've been here years and I still can't make heads or tails of some people.

Back home. Hardly something you have to worry about here. Though it can happen during events. Usually goes away afterwards though.
