Joel had been truly shaken when he'd found Ellie alone in the woods, hiding away from the world and with a broken arm she'd been too scared to even go and get treated properly. When she'd finally told him an abbreviated version of what had happened, he'd gone from feeling shaken to feeling sick.

He'd done his own research first, to no avail. At a loss and unable to make further progress on his own, he's finally caved to his last resort - asking the other residents for help. ]

How d'ya kill your mirror.

[ And don't tell him it's not possible. ]

[Not for his own mirror, exactly, though he'd happily put a bullet through that asshole's head just to test his luck. Right now his priorities are elsewhere when it comes to mirror-killing.]

But y' gotta be on their side, an' I don't reckon they stay dead.

Sounds like maybe they do, if ya kill 'em over there. Only problem is, there ain't nothin' stoppin' that Queen of theirs makin' another one once they're gone.

[ And one potentially worse than the one dispatched to make way for it. ]

[ He's silent for a moment, then just shakes his head. ]

He hurt someone.

[His expression twists slightly. Recent events have soured his already poor opinions of mirrors and the ease with which they rain down blows on those of them on the 'real' side.]

Who'd he hurt?

[ He hesitates for a long moment, still unwilling to share too much, before finally relenting. ]

Ellie.

[Muttered, almost hissed through his teeth. Ellie's a good kid, she doesn't deserve that.]

She okay?

She's fine.

[ She's not. Not really. But she's pulling through, and as far as Joel's concerned, whether she's okay or not isn't his story to tell. His tone makes it clear that the subject is closed. ]

Just wanna make sure it ain't gonna happen again.

[ Next time, his Mirror might do more than scare her. Next time, he might not content himself with just breaking her arm. Joel's not about to let that happen. ]

I hear that.

[After his reaction when someone hurt Evie, he can hardly be the one to tell anyone else that they need to take a measured approach where mirrors are concerned.

Besides, his own is a complete pain in the ass.]

[ He nods. ]

I will.

[ And he actually might, if only because Dan actually seems to understand. There's no room for forgiveness or leeway here. ]

I mean it, Joel.

[He knows the type, because he's the same type.]

Don't think y' gotta dive int' this shit by yerself.

[ Well, Dan's got his number. Joel cracks a tired smile, shaking his head. ]

I ain't gonna go off half-cocked here.

[The smile is returned with a small, weary one of his own.]

[ A surprised chuckle. He hadn't gone so far as to consider potential weapons. ]

I'll keep it in mind.

I mean, not that 'm tryin' t' plug the things or anythin'. I'll take solid ammo over energy weapons any day a' the week.

[ Joel nods in thoughtful appreciation. ]

[ Hopped-up raiders doesn't sound good, whatever they might be.

He nods, a thanks and a dismissal in mind. ]
