[accidental video / action]
[Toothless has a certain fascination with art. First it was sticks in the mud, then outside chalk, and then paint on the other side of the mirrors. Today he's found more paint, except in bigger containers. With lots of colors. And bigger brushes! He likes them — he can do more with them, and not worry about them breaking in his mouth.
Paint doesn't taste good. He's finding out again today.
Because today, one of the hallways has been sacrificed to his artistic efforts. Though, to be fair, it was an accident that the first paint container broke in his mouth. And then the others followed, because Toothless has discovered finger painting.
Or, more accurately, paw painting. And tail painting. It's a mess.
His communicator is jostled on as he paws patterns of yellow, blue, green, red, and white all over the floor and some of the walls. Toothless has lost his natural black camouflage. He's just a tangle of bright colors, splattered messily, as he also uses his chin and belly to get the colors in the right patterns.]

action;
Wait. Dragon?]
Whoa--! [Instantly recoiling a few steps on a delayed reaction upon spotting Toothless, his eyebrows raise behind his mirror-like visor. For a few moments, he's defensive as he stares, prepared to defend himself in the event of an attack, but pretty quickly the gaping wins out. He's still tense, but he straightens out, glances around at the paint, then looks at the dragon. The freaking dragon.]
This is really, uh... Creative. Did you really do all this? [And can you understand peoplespeak?]
action;
Toothless observes Wash for a moment before, with a certain amount of pride, nodding. It's just a first experiment in, hopefully, a series, but he's happy with where the experiments have gone.]
action;
The nod throws Wash for several long moments, considering he hadn't really expected to get any sort of response. But then, he hadn't been sure what to expect as it was, given this is a dragon and Wonderland. He should probably just be glad it didn't talk or something.]
Well, that's... [Awkward pause. How do you even talk to dragons?] I didn't know dragons could paint. ...It's kind of cool, actually. The, uh. The painting, too. Very...abstract.
action;
action;
Is that-- That's a fish, isn't it? That's really good! Have you been watching the ones in the ocean? [...Do dragons even study the things they paint?]
action;
Toothless nods in return, managing to look hungrily in the direction of his 2D fish as he paints another one beside it.]
action;
There are some pretty nice ones out there. [Still talking about the fish, and knowing this because he's actually seen them far closer than he ever expected to after an unplanned underwater expedition, Wash eyes the second fish being painted. He nods slowly, almost approvingly, and decides to keep talking. Even if conversing with a dragon is pretty strange. But hey, this isn't the first friend(?) he's made here who can't talk.] Where'd you learn how to do all this? ...Wait, uh. Let me rephrase that so it's easier for you to answer... Did you teach yourself how to do this?
action;
Both Hiccup and Balthazar have contributed to his artistic merits up until this point.]
action;
[Honestly, that's not particularly surprising. He'd probably have been more so if it turned out the dragon had taught himself how to draw. Would have been impressive, though. Or, you know. More than it already is.]
Well, that's fine. Makes sense, really. [Wash shrugs, but he's still smiling away under his helmet.] Can you do anything else? I mean, obviously you can do other things, but along the lines of painting, I guess. Like, can you write, too? Or...use other media for art?
action;
He does know chalk, but he doesn't know the word "media" and so begins to scrawl the other trick that he knows. A few letters and sigils in a circle, and the second the circle is complete a small flame lights up along the lines — and then goes out, like a birthday candle.
It's a funny trick he was taught. He likes it.]
action;
...Whoa.
[Stunned into speechlessness, admittedly still new to magic and the like, it takes him a minute to find his tongue.]
Okay, that's cool. The coolest thing I've seen around here, hands down. [Because dragon. Dragon drawing magic symbols. Oh man, he just wishes York was here to see this, too.]
action;
Anyone who draws the sigil can do it, but the Night Fury hasn't seen many people use this kind of magic yet.]
action;
You know, I'd ask your name so I don't just have to refer to you as "that dragon that knows how to paint," but considering you can't talk... [Trailing off sort of awkwardly, his smile falters just a bit.] For what it's worth, my name's Wash. ...Though I don't really know what you can do with that.
[The dragon seems smart enough to understand human conversation though, so...who knows? Maybe he does keep track of names. Wash has no idea, but it seems rude to not introduce oneself. Even if it's to a dragon, apparently.]
action;
T O O T H L E S S ]
action;
[He blinks as the dragon picks up a brush and looks to be going back to painting, and thinks for a moment that he's being ignored. At least until he notices that letters are being painted this time, that is. And that is pretty damn impressive. The painting itself is, but the fact that a dragon can write, even if it is just his name, is more so.]
Toothless, huh? That's you? [It has to be, but he likes to clarify.] ...Kind of a weird name, though. Don't you have teeth?
action;
Retractable teeth.]
action;
Ohh. That...actually makes a lot more sense. [Don't mind him, still staring at the gums like he can't really believe what he's seeing. Why it's harder for him to grasp than a dragon painting on the walls, he'll never know.] You're pretty unique, aren't you?
action;
action;
You're not? [Seems pretty unique to him. Then again, he's not from a place where dragons are plentiful, or hell, even real. But maybe that's not the case where Toothless is from?] What, there are other dragons that can paint and interact with people and have teeth like that where you're from?
[Now that sounds like something to see.]
action;
action;
[Assuming the noise was essentially a "yes," Wash sounds a little skeptical. It's pretty hard to believe there are other dragons that are so talented, but then, he doesn't know anything about where Toothless is from. Keeping this in mind, he resigns a little.]
Wow, that sounds pretty crazy. Must be an interesting place.
action;
Though he's grown used to and fond of Wonderland, when it isn't killing him, Berk and its surrounding islands are his home.]
action;
Guess you must miss it as much as the rest of us miss our homes too, huh? [It's really more of a rhetorical question, it pretty much goes without saying. It's just kind of a weird thought for an animal to miss it's home world. But then, the fact that there's a dragon here with this level of intelligence is pretty weird, too.] I'm sure you'll get back eventually. We'll probably all get back eventually. ...I think.
[Pursing his lips now that he's heading in a pretty depressing direction in terms of conversation, Wash stops himself there and...goes back to examining the painting. The bright colours should encourage optimism, right?]
